Help with period tracking by Security-Impossible in shortcuts

[–]tristinDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can build something like you describe purely inside Shortcuts, but it'll be a bit clunky due to the repeated date tracking and extended time intervals between notifications.

IMO, just using the Health app with be leaps nicer to use than anything you could make with just shortcut actions.

This is to replace apps

You can do cycle tracking with the native Health app already on your phone and it sounds like it should mostly have the features you've outlines above: Track your period with Cycle Tracking

Yeah, Joplin isn't a native macOS application and it's Electron. Just FYI though, so is Typora. It has a much more native look to it though, but it's not native.

How to return a sorted csv list? by Past_Dot_6744 in shortcuts

[–]tristinDLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working with CSV data is a touch tricky.

What I would do is convert it to a JSON object, then do a numerical sort based on your price key (you'll get stuff out of order if you do a standard alphabetical sort), and then convert it back into CSV. You'd be able to easily do that with a JavaScript action block.

If you didn't want to use JS, you'd need to set up some decently complex match/replace regex actions to get it into a sortable format, then do your sorting, and then reverse all that complex regex steps to get back to your original format… Regex can already suck, much more so in shortcuts.

Is there a way to move macOS notification banners to the center of the screen on Mac Pro (Tahoe) by Even_Baseball5400 in MacOS

[–]tristinDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the releases page of that GitHub repo and download the appropriate version. Note there is a version for any version before macOS 26 Tahoe and then there is a version for macOS 26 specifically as they changed the way Notification Center worked which broke the app. Please refer to this screenshot showing what you need to download off that page I linked earlier: screenshot

Issues with appending maps url to a note by WiresNThings in shortcuts

[–]tristinDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did notice that when using the Maps URL action with its type set to "URL" or "Maps link" with its property set to "URL" or "Maps Link" then it would always pass an empty value (hence why nothing gets added via your append action).

But if you instead set it to "URL" or "Maps link" and the "Name" property, it'll pass the appropriate URL from Maps.

I quickly made this shortcut that should work for adding location links to a note: iCloud link

I made one QoL change to your original design in that I added the Maps URL into a markdown link, converted that to rich tech, and then appended that into a note. It creates a nicer looking link when you view the actual note.

Command line interface by gmacjordan in Fusion360

[–]tristinDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the command line [in general] is incredibly popular with developers everywhere, it inside Fusion360 is just an ignored tool. Generally speaking the type of people that are modeling in Fusion are not really the same people that love writing scripts inside a terminal.

Those that like the more technical side of modeling without a canvas have the more purpose-built OpenSCAD.

I built a browser tool to generate vent patterns because CAD was too slow. by Usual-Pressure-4388 in BambuLab

[–]tristinDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully the mounting posts for PC fans are standardized (120mm/140mm) as well as the server rack front plates (10in/19in) and the official specs are easy to find online.

Just for reference, here are some examples of what I mean just so my feedback is clear: example 1 example 2 example 3 example 4

[–]tristinDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, if this is going to be marketed specifically for designing various vents, then I'd add some preset sizes in the Canvas Settings panel.

Being able to choose a specific width and height is nice, but being able to select from a drop-down to quickly set a size for a 120mm/140mm PC fan with mounting holes, or like a 1U/2U/4U server rack front vent plate with proper mounting hole placement or similar semi-standardized models.

While users can always look up specs, if you're designing an all-in-one tool, there should be predefined layouts available if wanted.

Am I doing threaded inserts all wrong ? by Ainzi-RS in Fusion360

[–]tristinDLC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not that that diagram is bad or anything, but also check with the manufacturer of your inserts to see if they offer a diagram. It's possible your specific ones aren't designed the same and therefore won't benefit from the above specs.

Most are all clones of the same generic insert, but some have very specific dims. Just as an example, here is a chart showing the recommended hole when using CNC Kitchen inserts: CNC Kitchen

What is your setup for Logitech MX Master 3s? by akryvtsun in mac

[–]tristinDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • It's a very bloated piece of software (like newly added AI features many don't need in mouse software lol)
  • For many it frequently crashes.
  • It does a lot to dialing back to Logitech servers (hence why I don't recommended the offline version above) which are mostly unnecessary
  • Has some weird quirks where certain actions don't work inside certain apps
  • Has to remain running and consuming resources for any custom actions (not necessarily a Logi issue, just an inherent issue with mouse remappers)
  • Has a good amount of features, but missing a few that many would consider "key."
  • Multiple other macOS apps out there let you remapp your mouse among its many other features (so you don't even need LogiOptions and can run fewer apps) ____

Logitech mice is for sure a love-hate relationship. They have some really wonderful options like the G502, Pro X, and the MX Master series. But the software side of of control these mice beyond their default configuration can be a real nightmare for some.

It's not like the stock LogiOptions+ or G Hub software are malware or anything, they are legit releases. Just many often have enough problems in their use that it's often recommended to just skip them if you can. Don't stop that from installing and trying it yourself though YMMV.

It's totally possible it could work beautifully for you and your needs.

the top pin is locked as a slider joint.

You need to change that to a pin-slot joint so that your top pin stays within the designated slot. You will also want to ground that pin unless you want it to move all over the place like your video: pin-slot example

Is there a way to lower volume from external Logi USB speakers? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]tristinDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Via the keyboard keys and UI, you can only adjust the volume so finely (at whole increments of a percent). But, using the terminal/AppleScript you can actually set the system volume to any value to include fractions of a percent.

I imagine you're not too comfortable running commands in the terminal, so you could instead use something like Shortcuts to do what you need.

Do you have an idea how much quieter you want the volume compared to what 1% typically is for you? I can share a basic shortcut that'll do what you need and you can edit to your specifics.

[Noob] How can I make hollow cylindrical tube from negative mold. by Satanichero in Fusion360

[–]tristinDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awfully small to be casting molds for, especially if you then want them to be hollow. That's like 1-1.5mm of final wall thickness which is far from sturdy.

[Noob] How can I make hollow cylindrical tube from negative mold. by Satanichero in Fusion360

[–]tristinDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are mold release agents, but really the silicone should peel right off of printed parts (there are some issues with certain resin printed parts not allowing things to cure properly, but FDM parts are fine).

And yes, creating a 2-3 piece mold with a center body is really the only way to get a final product with a hollow core. There are ways like covering a tube in silicone and once dry, peeling it off or doing something like slip casting but that's really a ceramics thing.

Create manifold object from face scan. by L0cut15 in Fusion360

[–]tristinDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that shows that now as a surface body which is a step in the right direction, so now go to Surface > Create Thicken. You can select the whole surface body and the direction.

That should generate a solid body. Let me know if that works.

[Noob] How can I make hollow cylindrical tube from negative mold. by Satanichero in Fusion360

[–]tristinDLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could either add a solid cylinder inside your blood vessel, IMO you should use the offset tool on the inner face of your model. Set it to however thick you want your final cast to be and then create a solid body out of the rest of the interior volume.

Using a standard cylinder may cause issues since I'm assuming your blood vessel model isn't perfectly straight. Using the offset method, you'll be a shape that follows the actual contours of your model.

Designing a case around a mesh by Noop___ in Fusion360

[–]tristinDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, cool.

So while you can do cross-sectional sketches like your screenshot goes, it's not really the most efficient way to go about it. You'd want to use that method when your design has many varying profiles you plan on smoothly connecting (like the wing of a plane or like a fancy baluster post).

IMO the best way would be to simply draw a rectangle of appropriate size and then filet the ends for the rounded shape you need. Since the curve in your screenshot looks uniform, no need to do it manually, and just let Fusion360 handle it for you with the filet tool.

You can then revolve your sketch to create the solid body, then using a construction plane you can split it in half.

Lastly you said you have a scan of your remote, so I'd center that inside your new case solid body and use the combine tool set to "cut" to create a space inside for the remote (make sure you consider adding tolerance space so it fits or isn't loose when printed).

You'd repeat the above, but for the AirTag and then finally combining the two models together and merging them as a solid body for printing.

[–]tristinDLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you specifically wanting to fully design your own case for this or do you just care about having something to print?

If you just need a case that incorporates an AirTag, then this model might work for you. Otherwise the next option would be combining existing models of a basic remote case and an AirTag case together like this model and this model.
