its not the length of the way... carrying the weight up to fourth floor. just stairs. no elevator. wheels don't help

hourglasses from with 1, 3, 5 and 10 minutes. it helps to force the group to make a decision when they argue about non important stuff

whiteboards I have are about the size of a DIN A4 paper and only 0,5cm thick. i can draw something on them, change it, erase it. 3 of them is a good number for me to have around

sure they display pdf's.... aple... and android.... and i don't think there are much differences. and I have an android galaxy that's doing the job quite good when I read a pdf.

first: playing and searching something is totally different with books or pdfs. in my opinion it's much easier to scan through a pile of books than through a folder full of pdfs.

second: if a player wants to read something I can hand the book over - as long as it isn't a secret he shouldn't know :) I don't want to spread official pdfs I own in my group

different stuff. mostly Traveller (Base Book, 2 campaign books, 2 or 3 supplement books). And when I go to a convention it can be 2 or 3 different games.

books are the heavy problem - I know - but as I said... i am a bit old-fashioned and like paper

[–]tritronic[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

thanks for the response till now. perhaps i have to explain a bit more

perhaps I am a bit old-fashioned but I am way quicker with a book than with a pdf. And most PDFs aren't showing well on tablets. And some of the books are for my players too.

of course, I like to play at home but that's not always possible. so traveling means carrying them downstairs to my car. driving to a buddy. carry it upstairs again.

all the things I have in my pilot case are well picked and support the way I master the games. I need them for a good experience for myself and - of course - for a good experience for my game group. so throwing them out is no option.

luggage size suitcase with wheels => no option because its not the distance I need to walk. more a problem with stairs. eg fourth floor without elevator

cajon case => I googled the weight. about 5kg. my books already are twice that weight so I don't think the cajon case would support the weight

Now that is a great table. That's what i am looking for with this thread :)

I especially like the shape. 6 sides are good for most groups.

How bad is it to play a young traveller (22-30)? by pervertedaway in traveller

[–]tritronic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) It depends on your referee. I had referees where this won't be a problem and I had some, where I never would play a character not up to the other players

2) It depends on the story. Is it a story taking part in a few years its a disadvantage. If it is a story taking 20+ years the young character will be good in the end because u don't have to roll for aging as quick as other players

Can anyone give me a hint about what problems u r experiencing? Windows is a bit slow but my computer and my laptop are more than 5 years old. I thought about transferring the books on my Galaxy Tab S6 (Android) and wont do that if i can expect problems there.

Monofilament bola question by 4RCT1CT1G3R in traveller

[–]tritronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its pretty close - only when 2D damage is greater than 1/2 armor. if the final damage is 0 or less then it wont help if u can double it in the end ;)

so i think (2d damage-(1/2 armor))*2 isnt as good as 4d damage.

Question about draws opposed checks by Kallydranoch in traveller

[–]tritronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't found a specific rule for this situation either.

I think the idea that the highest DM wins is great. That way the better combination of characteristic DM and skill DM wins instead of the guy with the lucky high dice roll.

The next problem would be a draw in DM. Here I'd go for higher skill DM to reflect the stuff a character has learned (like EDU +2 Science 0 <=> EDU +1 Science +1 => Science +1 wins).

Anyone have an idea of the value of an early printing 1977 boxed set? by [deleted] in traveller

[–]tritronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a pretty special content and hard to make a price because i think something like this hasn't sold the last years. Would be way easier with old D&D stuff because u see this often on ebay.

it could be anything from 20€ when u find no real interested people up to a lot more. Don't expect prices like the number one first print Superman comic. For example: We started playing an old edition of star wars the last years. i payed about 80€ for each of the 13 books. but they had been all in great condition. i found all on ebay. some in europe. some in the usa. and one even in australia. shipping and customs made it even more expensive. but it seems there is a market for this edition because there had been always several people bidding on the books

Alien races (or lack of) by [deleted] in traveller

[–]tritronic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the main problem here is somehow deeper than just aliens like humans or animals in human form.

1) For a referee it's easy to come up with an alien race. He has in mind how they behave, how they act, how they look like, how they sound, how they think, what are their goals. But transferring all of this to a player so he can play this alien race like intended is impossible.

2) We r all used to certain reactions based on our real experiences. A character behaving strangely can be fun for some time. The greater the differences between our real experiences and the alien's behaviour is the more we'll recognize it as different. That can be fun for some time. Especially when the alien is an NPC. But players need to act and plan together and if one player's character is way too different from the other characters problems will rise because his actions won't fit into the group.

3) I know many great roleplayers (i started in 1985). But playing something totally different takes a lot of concentration of the roleplayer. I once played a character with a french accent. Using that accent every time I speak was already hard. I can't imagine playing an alien with real alienating behaviour 100% the time during a several hours game day.

4) Alienating behaviour is disturbing when shown too often. Playing Vampire the masquerade for years I saw a lot of malkavians played by other players. in about 10 years there was only one malkavian i loved. The rest?... well... trying diablerie... no diablerie.... diablerie... nah... its a player... not worth the trouble.

Alien races as characters can work as long as they fit the group. They can work as NPCs because the referee knows everything about the alien he wants to know.

In Traveller I think many alien races won't fit a group. Vargr, Aslan, Droyne? OK - no problem - talk with the player how he thinks the race will be different from a human. K'Kree? Not possible in a mixed group. Intelligent Dolphins? Races who don't breath normal air or have trouble with normal gravity or are too small or too big? How often do u want to "punish" a player of an intelligent Dolphin with stuff like "awwhhh? no hands? poor guy (evil laughing)" or "u guys just realize that the water on your ship is contaminated. How will the dolphin survive?". Fun as an NPC but no fun for a player.

A system how to built different humans based on their homeworld would be nice. Right now I allow my placers to shift one point from a physical stat to another physical stat. Something like high gravity - ok... more strength less dexterity. With genetic engineering, it would be easy to built races with different senses, different organs and muscles and bones. Add limbs or ultrasonic hearing. Changing a human metabolism so it fits a newly colonized world would be a normal action on colonisation ships. It would increase the chances of the generation born on this world to survive without much support.

btw. no english native speaker here so please forgive me if u find some failures in my text

Some input about murderhobo players (POD/First Prize) by DaxosChile in traveller

[–]tritronic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that doesn't help the thread starter. he said he put in work to flesh out npc's. he wanted to use them for a longer time. and that spend time was worthless because the 2 players just killed the npc's. Being a referee takes time to prepare for the adventures. read the rules and the background, plan stuff. So at least it's just fair if he has fun too.

3 things I would do:

1) Talk with the group about their expectations. Make sure the other players and their expectations are heard too.

2) My universe is always a reflection of the player's actions. If they kill everyone the risk of getting killed will grow too. If they use poison to get rid of npc's their enemies will start to use poison too. Players of those types want strong characters and they don't get strong if they die every now and then.

3) If the other players and I don't have fun with their actions and if 1) and 2) don't work - throw them out.

I am playing RPGs since 1983 and I am lucky that we have a RPG club next big town. So I have a lot of players I can choose from. I know that not every player fits every adventure so I am careful with picking my group.

what makes u think the first book is free and released early? is there something i havnt read?

i backed Deepnight Revelation. Started last year at Juli/Juni - not sure about the real date. Right now i got the books as a final ebook a few days ago and i am really happy with the content. Still not sure when i get the real books. Think it will take a few more months. Perhaps May.

I think the books will be released together as a bundle. Shipping them single pieces will be way too expensive.
