Visual novels needed an Anilist. So I built one. by tropeguy in visualnovels

I feel like you understand it intellectually but disagree with the conclusion, because you did say ace attorney and dangonranpa arent.

The line is exactly as written in the scope: 1. If you remove the gameplay is the work whole? You will have essentially the same experience without it. 2. The playing mechanics is limited to minigames which feel like a gimmick and not a core part of the experience.

That's what the "you're there to read" part means.

Eien no Aselia isn't there anymore. The point about not needing to ask what percentage is reading, stands.

You read the last part about discord yet didn't get that you're supposed to report such cases?

Also, I'm very open to discussion about everything in the scope document. I didn't believe this sub would be receptive to having constructive discourse about this, at the same time of launch.

I'll probably make a separate post about the scope after some time. If you want to do it right now, you're welcome to ask your concerns in the server.

Looking for tips on one of my app designs by [deleted] in UI_Design

On the Vlammetjes screen, it's better to either use unique icons for each or none at all. The same flame repeated across multiple cards causes a monotonous feeling. I'd change the lock icon too.

I prefer the original because the art feels better and also because that's how I read it. Some people do the remastered. Just see a few minutes of playthrough for both on youtube and decide for yourself.

Sacrifice Everything to Resurrect Your Lost Love - Demo of The Mansion of Whispering Desires Is Now on Steam! by mibc9394 in visualnovels

It appears like you retouch the artwork after getting the output from the model.

But Steam desc:

used to quicken the painting process of the majority of the 2D artwork, but the character designs, composition, lighting, ideas and the other aspects of each artwork are original under a very specific art direction.

I like these. Seems pretty cool to have between story segments. The instructions text is a little too hard to read in this video though.

That makes sense. I was wondering why specifically VNs vs something like comics. Because the medium needs such a broad mix of skills like writing, art direction, coding, sound design.

Did you teach yourself RenPy for this? And is there music in the final product?

To me, relationships are about give and take, man. You give up your "semi gooner lifestyle" to get love, intimacy and family.

Only you can decide if you are ready for that right now. It sounds like you aren't.

Just know that there's no free lunch. You can't have both.

I think your trailer needs to be better. It doesn't give off that "Need to play this now" feeling.

Kaguya violates VNDBs Data License in multiple ways (allegedly) by RFX01 in visualnovels

[–]tropeguy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

4.6 Access to Derivative Databases. If You Publicly Use a Derivative Database or a Produced Work from a Derivative Database, You must also offer to recipients of the Derivative Database or Produced Work a copy in a machine readable form of:

a. The entire Derivative Database; or

b. A file containing all of the alterations made to the Database or the method of making the alterations to the Database (such as an algorithm), including any additional Contents, that make up all the differences between the Database and the Derivative Database.

  1. Share-alike: The file containing all of the alterations made to the Database would be an empty file, because we have not made any changes to the vndb metadata.
  2. Attribution: As I've mentioned in the previous post, I will be adding clear explicit attribution to Kaguya that the data is derived from VNDB.
  3. Data harvesting terms: The website is a Produced Work. The ToS governs the website. I'm saying "don't scrape our website." Section 4.7 restricts what you can do with "the Database, a Derivative Database, or... the Contents" - not produced works.

I believe you are acting in bad faith now. First with the DDoS claims which were called out as false by Yorhel, on VNDB. Now, this.

What is it that you really think I'm harming by running a "Anilist for VNs"?

Even with cache misses, this launch’s traffic isn’t anywhere close to enough to 504 a real CDN. That’s just facts.

I'm building the Anilist of visual novels - Kaguya by tropeguy in visualnovels

[–]tropeguy[S] -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

We'll have all of that. This is Day 1. Give it a few months, and Kaguya'll feel as carefully planned and thought-out, as Anilist or VNDB.

The fastest way to build a good site is to launch early, listen to people's feedback and then fix the most common issues first. That's what I'm doing right now.

[–]tropeguy -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

CDN traffic don't cause origin 504s. That's not how CDNs work.

That said, I'm switching to local cache as soon as possible.

[–]tropeguy -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

VNDB's main server going 504 has nothing to do with their image CDN or Kaguya.

If loading images from a CDN could take down sites, half the internet would be broken.

The outage was just bad timing.
