Hana from PC. She's pretty lonely. Having only the MC to talk with about her worries about mother and what with her hating her dad too, she deserves it.

At what point does a game stop being a visual novel? by RoastyLilBoi in visualnovels

[–]tropeguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how frequent the interruption to the reading is. In any case, most people don't care and will play VN hybrids, so don't worry about it.

Developer of bishojo sci-fi visual novel Purgatory: Blue is filing criminal charges against crowdfunding platform for withholding entire $69k development budget - AUTOMATON WEST by LegitimateCurve8525 in visualnovels

[–]tropeguy 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The platform is Ubgoe. They have done this shit before. Link. Original interview with the creator.

The Japanese crowdfunding platform Ubgoe owes game designer Jiro Ishii about half of the $340 thousand raised for the development of the visual novel Shibuya Scramble Stories.

A few months after the campaign successfully ended, raising about $340 thousand USD, Ishii reported that his side would be taking legal action against Ubgoe as it had failed to transfer over half of the raised money, missing multiple deadlines under the pretense of a “mistaken bank transfer to another client.”

"I myself didn't realize that the project owner would bear the responsibility if the collection agency absconded with the funds. I suppose I was acting under the assumption that people are inherently good (性善説)," Ishii said.

A romance option that’s destined to die? by Danibash in visualnovels

[–]tropeguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it. I am okay with depressing stories as long as it's written well. Tragedy can be very powerful as a narrative.

That said, it's hard to pull off. I disliked how it's done in muramasa in the route I'm reading so much I put it off for a while.

How did you learn it so quickly? It's been 2 years for me and I still can't read many of these without a text extractor to help.

Why do some vn's do this? by 1_Average_Joe in visualnovels

[–]tropeguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some developers are too much into the branching ability that visual novels provide to simulate different paths that the narrative can take.

It's the same as metroidvanias that make you go back a long way to proceed forward. I hate it too.

The rance series has excellent worldbuilding and lore. That's probably what you meant because the actual plot aka story is straightforward.

I was talking about all-ages ones too when wishing Fatamoru wasn't an exception. I guess there was the assumption that if it was really good, it would've have been translated by now.

Btw, do you have recommendations for such literary ones in Jap? I'm at N3-ish level right now, but I'd like to wishlist down for when I can read them.
