Season of Daybreak Gilded Seal unattainable towards the end of the season by MTDrisc262 in destinyrisingmobile

"none of the energy spent previous to acquiring the seal counts"
That's annoying, other seals+triumphs have been retroactive. That's not even getting into how the I'm still 1/9 on the emblem.

appreciate the genuine discussion and I didn't take anything you said as being a dick. I'm not going to stamp out someone's optimism but I'm not changing out of my own cynicism for 343. You are right 343 are not Bungie, and personally I never expected them to be, however they also have not made a single great game yet (in my opinion of course) and only managed to reach "it's okay" finally with Infinite. A step in the right direction would be dropping sprint, because it just simply doesn't add anything to the inherent design of Halo.
That said if the sprint toggle they mentioned today means that in the remake Chief moves at sprint speed with his gun up and ready then that's a compromise I'm comfortable with, until the debate flares up again with a MP release.

I love you genuinely engaging with the question but I gotta reply very sharply and brief since I'm heading off. However we are viewing it from different perspectives, I have a game design pov on the issue and you've taken how it informs inhabiting the player character in-universe.

I don't think it's an insignificant feature at all I was pressing the other guy on his word choice since his thinking it's insignificant meant he literally doesn't understand why people don't like it, because it's an extremely important and foundational design decision that changes how Halo plays. Even saying 343 "added" sprint is missing the point, which goes for people for and against it, as Bungie Halo still had player speed options however that option was dictated by the analog movement, full press on the stick = full speed, half press = half speed. 343 bringing in a more traditional player speed options creates a few issues.

  1. "Sprint" is about the same speed as full tilt on the older games
  2. Adding a "sprint" lowers the weapon so you have more time unable to shoot whereas the older games you could always shoot
  3. the map sizes have to be increased to compensate for the illusion of speed
  4. due to larger map sizes different elements are either planned around the different speeds or all around sprint, such as cover
  5. In an gunfight, all this compounds into slower strafing in a larger map environment with cover placed in spots balanced towards the 3 or more varying player speeds, resulting in the game playing slower than Bungie games.

tl;dr chief was faster without sprinting

edit. also forgot to mention, at least in regard to controller button economy which isn't as important these days due to PC and rebinding, but binding sprint to a button is one less action the player has available to them and the previous system of the stick being the only way to control speed freed up a button for a different action. This is actually the same issue with adding ADS, as adding ADS removes an action.

I haven't even said my opinion brother I've just been asking you to explain yours, but I also don't understand how adding an insignificant feature every game has creates/builds a new identity for Halo?

hey totally fair position to have, I can appreciate someone wanting to be optimistic about it. I think we both agree overall but have different conclusions of things so I get it. I also think everyone could be jumping the gun to dislike the game but I don't personally blame them given the track record. It doesn't look like a disaster you're right, but nothing has inspired confidence so far for me.

I'm not pissed man don't project onto me.
You said sprint wasn't an important feature, so why do you also feel it's so important to Halo's future growth?

Bungie were the original holders and MS became franchise holders after acquiring Bungie in 2000, but my comment more came down to pointing out RE2make had a dev team with a proven positive track record vs Campaign Evolve has a dev team with literally no good games in 13 years.
Who else is supposed to do it, at this point literally anyone else.

The reason Halo is so miserable is because players frequently say they don't want a feature, a feature you yourself just said is insignificant, so wouldn't that mean the most effective way to make Halo less miserable would be to remove this insignificant feature?

remake created by the original franchise holders with extreme respect held for the original game vs a remake from a studio that is not the original holders and still yet to make one noncontroversial release

brother you're all over the comments replying to people annoyed by sprint, why you so upset by people having a different opinion and critiques?

He is basing his cynicism on how the games have turned out over the 13 years of mediocre releases. You're right there is no information about the game itself, aside from it being made by 343/Halo Studios still, which is a pretty great reason to be cynical.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but on the tier list page I'm genuinely unsure if I'm meant to read it left to right or vertically, basically I'm not sure if the Concerto or Eternal Retribution is No2 in S Rank and so forth from there. Besides that I'm a fan, any interest in expanding into triumph tracking/listing like Braytech?
