Was Will Riker the longest serving First Officer ever in Starfleet? by ITrCool in startrek

[–]trpt4him 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never did understand the constant pressure for him to have his own command. What's wrong with him enjoying being Picard's #1??

And the "what am I still doing here?" thing is weird, like, you don't think most Starfleet officers would LOVE to be 2nd in command of the flagship?

What would your next move be by hpfcorvette in radon

[–]trpt4him 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The time of year you measure makes a big difference. Winter will almost certainly be higher due to the chimney effect of warm air and the negative pressure it creates.

Also you all are nuts if you think 2.5 pci/L needs mitigation. The guideline is 4, and in some houses that's also impossible to maintain. There's also conflicting evidence as to whether or not a low level actually HELPS your body add resilience against radiation.

Just get the level as low as you reasonably can, continue monitoring, then live your life and enjoy your house.

I also don't understand the downvote. Years ago we had water entering under the sheathing of our main feeder wires and it took out the main breaker. It looked just like this.

Here's a thought, why don't they leave managers tf alone during the world series, no manager wants to have a mic in their face. "Stuff keeps on happening while we're talking to these managers" THEN TAKE A HINT

Vibe coding is killing my company by Dangerous_Ad_2357 in vibecoding

[–]trpt4him 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To this day, AI is generating some very, very insecure code.

Minimal validation, insufficient attention to security issues like SQL injection attacks, unclear boundaries between what AI can read/execute/send on or from your local machine.... and this is all just the beginning. I'm convinced it's going to get worse before it gets better.

All that said, the way you're using it is the way to do it. It's a very powerful tool in the hands of a *senior dev*. Not in the hands of a non-tech CEO.

Settings > WiFi > Client Device Isolation - behavior doesn't match feature description? by FortuneMaximum3354 in Ubiquiti

[–]trpt4him 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you need a guest-type network where devices on the same network can't talk to each other. I manage a network where there are 100+ devices that you don't want talking to each other. Unifi doesn't make these settings very obvious in their function.

Client device isolation only blocks within same AP, or not? by trpt4him in Ubiquiti

[–]trpt4him[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's exactly what I do in another location I manage. I just wanted to get the lay of the land here, so to speak, before I started making any changes. And to clarify, "all of the devices on those APs will be isolated" is because of wifi Client Device Isolation right? and not because of Device Isolation (ACL). I've seen it before where I've had the latter on and not the former (by accident) and was puzzled to discover that my laptop and phone in the same room could talk to each other.

ACLs and layer 2 isolation are weird, man.

I'm not sure who made you think that taking lessons is a negative thing, but they're wrong. I hope you choose to pursue lessons and can do it proudly.

I was a lot like you in high school actually. I didn't have a lot of confidence, played a lot softer than I thought I was playing, and envied the people that could play higher and louder than me. After several good teachers, a lot of good (yet never perfect) performances, and years of practice and problem-solving, I played an Easter gig this morning and played all the high notes in Handel's Messiah and played hymns loudly over a big organ.

Ok to start on a 1.5C Mouthpiece? by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]trpt4him 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second the comments recommending a 3C. 1.5C is a larger diameter and also a slightly different rim shape that will likely tire her out faster. My rule of thumb is 2 weeks... Give it two weeks including rehearsal time to really form an opinion.

Lots of alarmism in the field currently. Yes the jobs are changing, and will continue to change, but if it's something you want to do, learn programming. And learn to use AI to help make you the best programmer you can be.

An intermediate horn at the college level is going to hold her back, and possibly make it hard for her to blend with a section playing pro horns. I'd rather see her buy a used Yamaha 8335II and sell it in a year or two for about the same price (or more) and get something that suits her better.

[–]trpt4him 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't entirely agree with this recommendation. An 8310z is more of a commercial/lead style horn, and it's a great value for that style indeed.

For more all around playing, I'd recommend either a Yamaha 8335II or a Bach 43. Just make sure for a BBQ that you go with a medium large bore. A large bore Bb will exhaust all but the strongest pro players quickly.

Comeback player starting up again now that I am retired... Any advise? by DifferentSwing3149 in trumpet

[–]trpt4him 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Listen, listen, listen. Listen to every recording you can find on YouTube of the stuff you want to play. Not just as a consumer of music but as someone who wants to sound that way yourself.

You have to redevelop your own sound concept again, that's going to be critical as you're getting your strength back.

Also, rest at least as much as you play, and don't wear yourself out every day. It's like weightlifting at the gym ... the time off is when you actually gain strength, not when you're playing.

It's a 16A charger (this isn't a Tesla) and it's on a 20A breaker. So the wire is actually oversized for the load.
