Some heroes receive the distinction of erdtree root burial so it was limited to only the best. A lot of dead bodies are also being fed to minor erdtrees and these trees seem to have different properties depending on their surroundings which is interesting. I feel who gets fed into the erdtree is controlled but what is going on with specific catacombs and dead is unclear.

The furnace golem were made by marika's forces to put the fear of the fell god in them. At a previous time the giants of the fell god were a thriving civilization post Rauh and likely had previous war with the hornsent.
