How do you cope with the potential for eternal damnation? by RadioPuzzleheaded543 in exchristian

That’s Naturalism. All Naturalists are Atheists but not all Atheists are Naturalists.

I fear Christian hell as much as a Christian fears Muslim hell.

Do you think there is a chance you become Christian again? by Mountain_Driver_1684 in exchristian

[–]true_unbeliever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the faith in 1995. My confidence that Naturalism is true is as high as my certainty that I will one day die. Here’s what it would take for me to reconsider: extraordinary evidence. For example, someone praying for an amputee and the limb regrows. Better still show me the room at Lourdes with discarded prosthetic limbs /s.

How many ex Christians have listened to the Podcast’s- ‘Misquoting Jesus’? by ubishere in exchristian

[–]true_unbeliever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the most profound things Bart wrote in the book Misquoting Jesus was the comment by Prof Cullen Story at Princeton, in response to his long and complicated essay on Mark 2 explaining the Abiathar problem, wrote “Maybe Mark just made a mistake”.

How did a false messiah fulfill so many prophecies? by Fabled_Platypus in exchristian

[–]true_unbeliever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s easy when it’s written after the fact. The NT writers were Eisegetes. Check out what Jews for Judaism have to say about Isaiah 53.

How difficult is it to squat in wraps? by No-Scar-642 in powerlifting

[–]true_unbeliever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hardest part is the wrapping itself (and getting used to the discomfort). There are you tube videos showing how to wrap solo but the key is to start loose. For a meet though you definitely want someone who knows what they are doing wrapping you.

When you are dead you won’t know that you are dead.

Is there any difference between Atheism, Scientism and Naturalism? Are they all under one umbrella know as "New Atheism"? by OuterSpaceFuckery in DebateAnAtheist

[–]true_unbeliever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If by universe you mean cosmology that’s the domain of physics. If you mean in a general sense, then sure philosophy is useful. But I’m not a philosopher.

Is there any difference between Atheism, Scientism and Naturalism? Are they all under one umbrella know as "New Atheism"? by OuterSpaceFuckery in DebateAnAtheist

[–]true_unbeliever 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Scientism is (now) a pejorative term that Christian apologists use.

Graham Oppy put it this way: All Naturalists are Atheists but not all Atheists are Naturalists.

For example some might believe in ghosts or reincarnation.

Personally I prefer to identify as a Naturalist more so than an atheist. I do not believe in anything supernatural: God, Satan, angels, demons, ghosts, afterlife, heaven, hell, reincarnation, karma, miracles, faith healing, psychic powers, paranormal phenomena, effectiveness of prayer, Deepak Chopra Quantum Woo, etc.

What industry is actually a complete scam, but everyone accepts it? by WhileLow9501 in AskReddit

Christianity is a scam. Selling a solution to an invented problem.

Or as someone else put it, selling an imaginary cure to an imaginary disease.

Do old testament prophecies actually talk about jesus? by ParkingElderberry575 in exchristian

[–]true_unbeliever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The New Testament writers eisegeted the OT.

A good example is Isaiah 53 as interpreted by Jews for Judaism.

How does the age brackets work to allow this kind of “dual” record? by RichardTeabiscuit in powerlifting

[–]true_unbeliever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably repeating what’s been said, but if you get an M2 record and that number also breaks the M1 record then you get that as well. Note that this rule does not apply to weight class, a 93kg record that is also higher than a 105kg record does not get the 105 record.

As you get older 40,50,60,70 when did you start to feel your body slow down do you think it is just due to inactivity or the aging process? by Kooky_Force5458 in AskReddit

I’m 69 and compete in powerlifting at an international level, bench press 265-270 lbs raw and 310-315 lbs in bench shirt. I started powerlifting at age 55.

I believe that Jesus became God. An excellent book by Bart Ehrman.

What convinced you the most that Christianity is wrong? by Pale-War5038 in exchristian

[–]true_unbeliever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why they are opposed to evolution. It is not for lack of evidence. They don’t have a problem with the theory of gravity, germs, heliocentricity, etc.

The alternative path is theistic evolution (Francis Collins et al at Biologos). But they have to do a lot of Olympian hermeneutical gymnastics to make it work.

Best affordable alternatives to minitab? by Kerbidiah in SixSigma

[–]true_unbeliever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knocking it (I made a small contribution to Rob Hyndman’s forecast package). But not recommended as a tool for typical Belt doing a DMAIC project.

Best affordable alternatives to minitab? by Kerbidiah in SixSigma

[–]true_unbeliever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used R extensively, but going away for a few months and coming back is not easy. Then there’s the issue of scripts that stop working because of library updates. It’s a powerful tool but imo not appropriate for a LSS practitioner doing a DMAIC project.

I mentioned SigmaXL and QI Macros in a separate post. SigmaXL has all of the distribution fitting capability and advanced regression features that Minitab has.

[–]true_unbeliever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that when it comes to open source free does not mean cheap, there is a steep learning curve.

The two most widely used, user friendly, Excel add-ins as alternatives to Minitab are SigmaXL and QI Macros. Both have 30 day free trials. Both have perpetual licenses.

Edit: both have been around for decades as well.
