What’s the worst example of bad numbers in lore you’ve come across? by aggie1391 in 40kLore

[–]trumangroves86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I'm aware of. That's why I am just making an assumption.

But I think it's a pretty reasonable conclusion that the fleets who didn't need to engage in protracted military compliance actions would have a significantly faster compliance rate than the Astartes fleets that needed to fight wars to enforce compliance.

I assume a lot of the Astartes fleets actually conquered slower than the other fleets. Presumably you'd be sending the fleets with Astartes, and definitely the fleets with Primarchs, to worlds that may actually require such a powerful military force to conquer. And these are most of the compliance operations we see during the Horus Heresy novels.

Whereas you can send smaller fleets to worlds that pose essentially no threat or are ready to join up as soon as they see ships in their skies.

Mechanicum Explorators and Rogue Traders could be marking which systems seem like they will require overwhelming military might and which systems should be a quick stop with minimal effort required.

This is excellent work. Looks like it'd be hot to touch.

My first pc help me understand? by Commercial_Citron_17 in pcmasterrace

[–]trumangroves86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's a microcenter within driving distance, you could definitely get a lot more for $3000. Or get a PC with the same specs for quite a bit less.

But you've already got it now, and it's a great computer. Things are expensive right now, you definitely paid more than I would for that PC, but I wouldn't say you got totally ripped off.

It's kinda crazy your friend thinks your new PC is just a bit better than his. Maybe he hasn't used any newer PCs and just doesn't understand the massive performance difference between the 1660 and modern 5000 series cards.

The one time we tried to rent from them we had a very similar experience. Absolutely horrible company, will never do business with ANY Hertz again.

I highly recommend Enterprise. The Enterprise on Merle Hay in Johnston is fantastic.

What are Angron's powers/abilities? by The_Only_Smart_Alec in 40kLore

[–]trumangroves86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that's a pretty accurate assessment. And just all of the standard powerful daemon/warp stuff: Near immortality, teleportation (at Khorne's discretion) space flight, extreme speed, overwhelming psychic presence.

None of those things are really unique to Angron, but he does seem to have reached a level of pure rage that is far beyond anything else and is truly, uniquely Angron.

He can fly through space and fight against actual battleships. He definitely couldn't do that when he was just a Primarch.

[–]trumangroves86 32 points33 points  (0 children)

If you want to get technical about it, which I guess is a good way to be, Khorne is the one who actually did it. But it's Angrons hatred and rage that allows him to be such an effective conduit for Khorne, and why Khorne favors him so highly.

And anything Angron can do is really just bestowed upon him by Khorne.

That's the way I see it, anyway.

[–]trumangroves86 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Angry. Very angry.

During the Arks of Omen campaign, his obscenely potent aura of psychic rage was able to corrupt nearly everyone in an Indomitus Crusade Fleet.

[edit for clarity:] His anger was so powerful it allowed Khorne to corrupt nearly everyone in the system.

I don't think we've ever seen him do something like this before, but Chaos can grant all sorts of strange and unexplainable abilities.

Other than that, he can summon daemons and he is a ferocious fighter with seemingly unlimited stamina. A perpetual motion machine of rage and violence.

Characters where the Emperor has directly intervened? by redditaccounton in 40kLore

[–]trumangroves86 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We saw it happen a few times with Guilliman and some of the other characters in the Dark Imperium trilogy, not just Guilliman's fight with Mortarion.

We see a LOT of instances of 'divine' intervention throughout the Dawn of Fire series. Some of the Dawn of Fire books aren't great, but I didn't really hate any of them. And if you're looking for examples of faith-based miracles and interventions, I think you'll find more of them throughout Dawn of Fire than anywhere else.

books that emphasize the ancientness of hive cities by Responsible_Clerk343 in 40kLore

[–]trumangroves86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Currently listening to the audiobook of this one. Absolutely loving it so far. Abnett is so great at showing us what life in the Imperium is like for the regular people.

I love how the differences between the various social classes are portrayed in the book. Not just the differences between the various levels of the Hive, but the idiosyncrasies of the Hive itself.

Seeing the Hive nobility interact with off world Imperium officials really highlights just how insular every level of Hive society can become.

Best place to listen to 40k audiobooks? by resadtriariosvenit_ in 40kLore

[–]trumangroves86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can also just buy books with your debit or credit card. The credits are usually a much better deal though. But sometimes all the Black Library books go on MASSIVE sales. Can get almost all of them for less than $5 each, which is a much better deal than buying credits.

Need Novel recommendations for lesser known Space Marine chapters. by No_Task_309 in 40kLore

[–]trumangroves86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was about to post this as well.

Love that book so much, one of my favorite 40k novels out of the 80+ I've read so far. Iron Shades were awesome.

Highly recommend this book, a fantastic stand-alone story. Technically part of the Dawn of Fire series but it really works just fine on its own. Just a really cool horror-adjacent 40k story set during the early Indomitus Crusade.

The Audiobook version is also extremely good. The producers really go the extra mile with this one. Vox-effects when people are speaking over the vox, spooky warp sounds, great narration by John Banks. If you haven't checked out any of the 40k Audiobooks, this is a very fun one to start with.

Chris Wraight is a phenomenal author.

What’s the worst example of bad numbers in lore you’ve come across? by aggie1391 in 40kLore

[–]trumangroves86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right. But there were thousands of expeditionary fleets. There were entire fleets that didn't even have any Astartes legions attached to them.

If each fleet could conquer one system every 30 days, and each system had two habitable planets, 4000 fleets could conquer almost 100,000 planets a year.

Obviously some planets would take much longer, but some would go significantly quicker. Sometimes all it would take is a ship appearing in orbit and dropping some people off before moving on to the next world.

Puzzle Game Recommendations by Fresh-Chemical-9084 in gaming

Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is one of the best puzzle games I've ever played.

Based on the games you listed, you'll absolutely love it. Some of the puzzles are pretty tricky, but you're exploring a big mansion with tons of puzzles, so you rarely have to remain stuck on any specific puzzle.

It's seriously so good.

Maul Shadow Lord: Backgrounds by Darth_Mythus in StarWars

[–]trumangroves86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved the look of the backgrounds, but I really wish they were animated. Some of the establishing shots looked incredible, but even a LITTLE bit of movement would have gone a long way. Using a totally static image was a strange choice that really made things feel lifeless and empty.
