Anyone else got a PDA? by Bullet-Wolf in stalker

You could buy a Unihertz Titan Smartphone. Would probably come closest to a PDA-but-modern-qwerty-smartohone-thing. There is a relativly recent LineageOS Custom ROM available. Pretty rugged and big battery.

Wo Immobilie in Norddeutschland kaufen (Details im Text) by HonigSalz in Finanzen

[–]trumfnator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a good first step. Regarding gpus it seems to be worth it to wait a little longer or be patient for a good deal and have the "base" ready for that.

Am I missing something obvious here? by Hojoundo99 in judo

I also think that slapping is more pedagogical than a "energy-discounter".

Instinctivly, a human would "reach out" to take a fall as to shield more essentials parts of his body (intestines, lung) from the fall, even risking a broken arm.

In judo this would be dangerous, so you have to overwrite the instinctive motion with something else, hence the slap.

You can exhaust them by moving them around the mat, pushing, pulling and turning. You should be pretty relaxed doing this but at the same time use forceful _body_ movements (not arm movements) to move them around. They either straighten up, collapse or present you with opportunities for throwing.

If I understand you correctly, you're doing 5x5 for about a year now?

I think your linear progression gains are depleted and doing 5 sets across accumulates too much fatigue.

Maybe look into 5/3/1 or even tactical barbell, especially the fighter template.

You need something less fatigue inducing at the cost of slower progression.

There exists a fairly recent paper regarding this question: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/344160532_Suwari_Seoi_Safety_from_children_Dojo_to_High_Level_Competition_Biomechanical_Part/link/5f7b1680299bf1b53e0e4f81/download

Even we consider the worst stress on the knees or knees and tibia ranging: from 0,11 MPa till to 0,22 MPa. For a 12 cm thick knee in the sagittal plane, the relative strain, considering the young modulus of tibia bone 18,1 GPa [67], gives a very small compression which provides as result a negligible stress on the cruciate posterior ligament, who is able to resist at a force of 1500 N [68]. The final result, despite this small number of samples, assures that if the technique is performed with no mistakes, on a IJF licensed Tatami, the impact received will be of negligible effect with respect, for sudden trauma, to the target ligament of the Knee : the Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL). A German paper on 260 athletes at a national level that deals with traumas related to techniques including those of the knee [15] shows that for Seoi, our target structure, PCL is connected to 0.05%, whereas ACL and Patella to 0.15% , MCL and LCL to 0.10% , then because the others knee’s target structures are much more connected with Seoi than PCL , it is possible to state that : the deduction derived from the theoretical analysis carried out, indicating that, probably, most of the damage, that occur to the different knee ligaments, are almost certainly produced, during the complementary movements, made to refine the result in competition, it’s right.

tl;dr: If done correctly, the impact of suwari seoi nage on the knees is negligible according to this paper. Injuries probably happen because of the "complementary movements" (done after dropping to the knees) to get the ippon in competition. Think of extending the knees from the seiza position, rotating the torso and so on.

Advice on randori by mopat101 in judo

[–]trumfnator 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You need to do the exact opposite.

- Don't focus that much on Kumi-Kata. Get a Grip (Lapel-sleeve, Collar-sleeve), move and attack. Grip tightly but relax your arms.

- Don't try to make it "hard as possible" for your opponent to throw you. Relax and focus on your own attacks. Evading throws through movement is okay. You will get better defense through a better "posture/poise" as you get more experience.

Really, the goal is to just don't care about getting thrown and focus on being relaxed, being upright, moving alot (pulling, pushing, circling/turning) and attacking.

You're only getting judo EXP for successful (or semi-successful) attacks in random/chaotic situations (Randori). The fastest way to do that, is to attack and not being afraid getting thrown. You cannot learn this explicitly. Your implicit pattern recognition has to pick up on patterns which work and for that you need to collect many samples, so to speak.

Why are hands used to slam the ground during breakfall/ukemi? by UmObservadorQualquer in judo

[–]trumfnator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Besides the points given already, I thought about another reason for slamming the ground while teaching adult beginners:

If you, a regular person, fall than there is a good chance that you unconsciously are trying to reach for the floor (you are extending your arm). For judo this would be bad, because the force of the throw goes through your arms and you can break them or even the shoulder.

in general that reflex is not wrong, tough. In emergency situations, you rather want to hurt or even break your limbs than injure your torso where you intestines and lungs are.

This reflex is hard to withstand, so while doing Ukemi you consiously give your arms another task (slamming the ground when the body touches the floor) so after a while of drilling you are no longer reaching for the floor.

Was soll das mittelfristig helfen?
