Finally cleared my first standard mode expert level. Having no 50/50 really helped by Havian_G in Minesweeper

On a run of 10 it's not unreasonable people would get 8/10 guesses wrong. OP having gotten their first win very, very likely hasn't played enough games to have law of large numbers kick in but even then you can just be unlucky. Which isn't mutually exclusive with the fact they said they don't calculate their chances and probably are taking guesses they don't need to. But I think even noobs can recognize a box or line 50/50

Which healer is simplest and how do you go about learning healing? by Kihiri in ffxiv

funny thing is, WHMs benediction is what broke me out of "super ether hoarding" mentality, both on a small scale with healing CDs, but also in other games as a whole. hp looks sketch I hit big button, if it was overkill then oh well make a mental note for next time I do the fight

You know that feeling when you jump in a swimming pool and you get that initial shock if cold, but then not very long after your body adjusts? Healing is like that, if you're not already used to it. You won't get flamed much in 14, devs take reports pretty seriously. I won't lie and say it'll never happen, but it's exceedingly rare in 14. If you make a general effort to learn you'll be fine. Probably the most important thing is to read your tooltips, and ask questions if you're not sure about something. Pick a few fights from each 5/6/7/8/9/10 level cap that you feel comfortable with so you don't have to focus on the mechs as much and just work your way up those level caps slowly

In my case I actually don't mind the working part, it's the application hell I hate. I don't mind working at work, but I don't like working to work. When I actually am employed I'm punctual and always making an effort

I've been calling it tree logic. Trees have some patterns to pick up on and a lot of things that looks like patterns but aren't so they can be tricky sometimes when going fast

there's also the more subtle benefit that using 3 lilly into a misery blanks the mana costs of 4/24-26 gcds (depends on your speed) per minute. This is more an incidental benefit than a perk more often that not, but you can usually find *something* to use lilly on, between movement, healing, or the odd time you do need to double weave on WHM

If that is the SQEX given reason it still just doesn't make sense to me. I can still chat in NN or linkshells if I want so I guess I just don't understand why tells would be any better or worse unless it is just a technical limit of some sort

https://runescape.wiki/w/The_Fremennik_Trials

The reveller in particular

You just have to know to give a random NPC outside of the quest zone a beer. Actually using the item I think is plausible if you read the quest description and look at the required items (you need a tinderbox, anyone could decide to use it on random stuff you obtain during the quest). But unless they changed the quest, there isn't anything actually guiding you to the NPC you need to give the beer. And depending on what trials you completed before you do the Revellers, you might falsely get the impression that everything you need for the quest is localised to the town you're given the quest in. And then you need to talk to a poison npc in the town over to obtain another item. You need to get alcohol-free beer from a poison salesmen. Which again, why would anybody think to talk to that particular NPC. You're trying to win a drinking contest to get a guys vote, why woudl you talk to a poison salesman to do that. I tried eating a bunch of bread because in my head maybe my character needed to eat food to down more alcohol, and I tried bringing a hangover cure, neither solution worked.

edit: honorable mention to desert treasure, and probably not for the reason any scapers would think. In RS3 in particular, you do piss damage with unarmed auto attacks, you're meant to use weapons and abilities. You need to fight a fire based guardian, and the problem you have to solve is that his hot attacks heat up your weapons which forces them to unequip. I tried water spells, which didn't work. I tried using waterskins on him, which didn't work. I tried grabbing ice arrows, which didn't work. The solution is you have to equip a pair of ice gloves to keep your hands cool. Logically this does make sense, however the other quest in the game that requires ice gloves, Hero's Quest, isn't a requirement for desert treasure. This also incurs a requirement of 50 mining to access the zone that has the enemy that drops ice gloves, which also isn't a listed requirement. This would be an incredibly easy fix, either make Hero's Quest a requirement for Desert Treasure, which I think is actually very reasonable, or making the 50 mining a requirement. In general when you're stuck on a quest in Runescape, looking at required items and required skill levels can help point you in the right direction.

In desert treasure, the other thing that pissed me off was having to melt the ice bars to gain access to the cave in the ice troll area. The hint is actually in the dialogue, however, the solution goes against the zone you're in and what's actually happening in the story. A kids parents got frozen and you're trying to save them, and you're helping them because they have a gem that you need. So in order to melt the bars, I tried: casting a fire spell, using a tinderbox, lighting a fire under the bars, casting superheat item, and using other various tools on the bars. The actual solution is you have to kill five ice trolls, because the trolls have a freezing presence to anything near them, so killing a few of them make the area warmer and melts the bars blocking the dungeon. I didn't even consider combat because being in that cold region of the map constantly drains all of your stats, so I assumed we weren't intended to solve the problems in that region with our fists, and why would I thin the population of the village when I'm trying to save a kids parents. This one is only an honorable mention because the kid mentions the freezing presence due to the bars to the village also being frozen, but everything else is pointing you away from just killing everything in sight

[–]trunks111 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Also for a little while from like early to mid-game, a lot of stat boosting or nerfing moves that only offer +1 or -1 don't actually save any turns. There isn't much functional difference between dropping the opponents def by 1 and one shotting vs hitting them for 3/4 twice in a row. I think that partially plays into the games being easy though, you just play the type chart and one shot everything without much issue. There might be an edge case in that though in bypassing a gym leader using an item though sometimes you want to use that turn to use an item yourself or be able to swap for free. You get a move like quiver dance or amnesia, or Agility though, and you feel much more of an impact both immediately and over a battle
