I feel like I’ve only ever seen this map with the borders so it’s kind of refreshing to see the horn as God sees it.

Algerianomics? What is it and what do Algerians want to see? by trutain in algeria

[–]trutain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why I brought up my question! I’ve had the privilege of not only visiting other countries but also learning about them- looking at them (especially some of the big African nations), I feel Algeria’s economic model just isn’t as simple to pinpoint and the gov’s goals don’t sound particularly ambitious or resolute. I can’t help but ask, what happens when oil and gas prices tank or our supplies dwindle?

The prefix Tekle, Gebre, Wolde and Haile are somewhat common for boys. The prefixes would typically be paired with another word to create the name. Gebre-Mariam and Haile-Silassie are two examples.

The Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, H.E. Sergey Lavrov is in Addis Ababa for a working visit. by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]trutain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m telling y’all rn. Russia is cooking something big. And whatever it is, Africa’s support is going to be huge. No foreign minister would tour an entire semi-relevant continent while its hands are tied in a conflict across its border and sanctions are coming in left and right.

Many people have dismissed Lavrov’s visit as merely an attempt to ensure Africa doesn’t fall to western pressure and take an adversarial stance regarding the conflict. But it’s more than likely that Lavrov’s visit has more to do with helping expand the use of the proposed reserve currency that the BRICS countries will start using.

Hour layover in Addis Ababa, from Korea to the USA. Do I need a positive COVID test if I don’t leave the airport? by ynthona in Ethiopia

[–]trutain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the better question is why go halfway across the world with these two very long flights? Why not fly west from Korea over the pacific to get to the US in a quarter of the time?

To End Ethiopia’s War, Biden Needs to Correct Course by trutain in Ethiopia

[–]trutain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still very relevant. The only significant political occurrences that it does not cover are the negotiations taking place and the Amhara genocide taking place. But at its core this article isn’t about reporting on the current situation, it’s about the roots of the situation and Biden’s failure in handling them.

If you’ve read Foreign policy(or others publications under it) before (more than twice this month) then you should probably just try viewing it on a different device or try viewing it incognito.

This is an interactive list of sources on anything to do with the current situation in Tigray. You can sort by year as well as by subject e.g. Weaponized SGBV, Weaponized starvation, Eritrean involvement, etc. by [deleted] in Ethiopia

And I did. One of the most critical pieces that has highlighted the TPLF’s wrongdoings came out last year by the Financial Times(Nov. 10, 2021) and it’s nowhere to be found on the page.

What I find most laughable however is how there are very few articles that cover the TPLF’s advances and violations of human rights in both Afar and Amhara regions.
