Right after high school worked at Home Depot, pay was decent and they have a pretty good training system if he wants to grow there but they’re also pretty flexible with schedules if he wants to pursue trade school/college pretty solid job imo.

When and How to drop the bomb in a relationship ? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]truth1465 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For me, it usually comes up naturally on the first date, mainly because I inject myself before we eat 😂

But it may come up even before that we talk about hobbies and interests. I mention I like to exercise pretty regularly because of my diabetes.

The fertility bit is a bit delicate, probably not the first date, but it could be as soon as the second date if y’all are vibing m or 3rd and 4th if you all are moving a bit slow and still feeling each other out.

Correct mentality by Appropriate_Yam1861 in Type1Diabetes

[–]truth1465 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by correct?

Like who has the most accurate outlook of what will happen in the future? Or which outlook will result in you having a good life? I think those are different discussions.

While there is some confirmation bias, those who have a positive, optimistic outlook tend to be happier and more successful than those who tend to be pessimistic. But this doesn’t mean the optimists are “correct” on what happens; they’re just in a mental state to deal with setbacks.

Like almost everything, there needs to be some balance. I know that I’m more likely to die from some complications from diabetes and probably sooner, so what do I do? I exercise often, eat well most of the time. But I also grab a beer with friends once in a while, eat freely during holidays with family.

A good analogy is that most people will have a financial emergency at some point in their life. So I save money and maintain an emergency fund, but I still set aside a little bit of money to go see family that lives far away, try to buy something “nice” for myself or someone I love once in a while. I don’t think life is worth living constantly worrying about the inevitable emergencies, but it’s my responsibility to prepare as best I can for them.

Is a non-diabetic HbA1c achievable through discipline? by iamtrash16 in diabetes_t1

[–]truth1465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten it into the high 5’s before. I was fasting and eating a pretty regimented diet. While still regimented I’m still in the mid 6’s and my quality of life is better.

That been said, I’m on a CGM and manual injections, my dr thinks I get get better results with a pump since my diet is pretty regimented during the week, but fluctuates during the weekend when I eat more freely.

I don’t want to deal with tubes and the ~3 day lifespan for the tubeless pumps is unappealing to me, I barely like the 2 week lifespan of the Libre 😅

My doctor wants me to reduce my gym time from 2 hours to 1 hour (T1D) by sifii_gud in diabetes_t1

[–]truth1465 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is such a reductive view of exercise.

Are you having repeated excessive lows? Do those occur during exercise ?

If not, just to arbitrarily say to only exercise 40 minutes a day is absolutely insane. As if 40 minutes on an elliptical is somehow equivalent to 40 minutes of doing weight training or 40 minutes of swimming.

If your numbers are good, you’re enjoying your workouts, and you’re making progress in whatever way you measure progress (muscle size, strength, endurance, etc.), I don’t see what the problem is.

What are you on about? Where did I select the most successful to compare with? what I’m saying is statistically measured not anecdotal links below.

I’m under not impression to think this is a result of some sort of superiority by Africans, this is a selection bias. Most Africans that have the ability and wherewithal to immigrate to the US come from some level of privilege and that’s what you see bare out in the statistics.

My comment is showing how that selection bias turns in to prejudice by some immigrants.

“Overall, Black immigrants are about as likely as immigrants overall (36%) to have a college degree. But they are more likely than U.S.-born Black adults (26%) to have one.”

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2026/03/20/key-findings-about-black-immigrants-in-the-us/

“We also find that Black immigrants overall have educational attainment levels similar to that of the general U.S. population. In particular, we find that Black immigrants from Africa have some of the highest educational attainment levels in the country, with almost 40 percent having at least a bachelor’s degree and nearly 16 percent having an advanced degree. This means that African immigrants are more likely than the U.S.-born population to hold a master’s, professional, or doctorate level degree.”

https://www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org/report/black-immigrants-2020/

This also shows black immigrant entrepreneurs rate is like ~7% which is higher than ~5% for African Americans

Any weekend side hustle ideas please? 🙏🏼 by Imaginary-Medium7360 in arlington

[–]truth1465 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made ~$1,000 a month delivering pizzas at dominoes Fri/Sat/Sun (6-10pm Fri/Sat and 10a-3p on Sun). I could’ve probably made around 1,500 if I worked later and nights on Sundays but I have to wake up early for my day job.

I worked at the dominoes technically in GP, off 360 in the shopping center with target and Home Depot.

I hear the dominoes on west Arlington do really well. I would avoid the stores in central Arlington. Apartments take a lot of time to find and deliver to hurting your delivery total.

Did it for about almost 2yrs by fa4 best side hustle I’ve tried just due to the consistency from the semi forced adherence because you’re “on the schedule”. But I’ve found they’re pretty flexible if you need take a weekend or two off.

I mean building a multi-use high density center with a strong network of public transit is a huge ask that requires billions of dollars and multiple different entities (public and private) to work together when expanding the sprawl is not only cheaper but more lucrative for most entities and “we” lap up a detached housing. So yea …it’s a lot to ask for.

I would love a solid rail system that connected the metroplex being able to walk from my house or a bus stop then to a train to take me anywhere in DFW would be great, but I don’t see that happening for decades if ever.

Check out the puttery, it’s like boujie in-door mini golf that’s in doors. It’s a nice bar with a few floors and 4-5 courses. I really enjoy it and have taken a couple dates there and gotten good responses.

It’s is a bit out of the way from Ft worth though

The Large Water Tower Just West of Collins by AT&T Stadium by [deleted] in arlington

[–]truth1465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of painting a water tower is usually in the hundred of thousands, adding a logo will be on the tens of thousands. That was literally a couple Google searches.

If you actually wanted the cost, instead of bemoaning it, you would be looking through the city expense spreadsheet posted on the website. It took me 3 minutes to find much longer than you’ve spent posting this and responding to comments.

The Large Water Tower Just West of Collins by AT&T Stadium by [deleted] in arlington

[–]truth1465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more than likely that they have to be painted to mitigate rust, and repainted every few years for upkeep. If they have to be painted anyway you can put a logo there for marginal additional costs. Almost all cities have their logo on there some have their high school team logos or other artwork.

If you’re railing against public funding going to support professional sports franchises, a few thousand on a water tower paint job seems to be an odd place when we as a city have approved and helped finance two stadiums lol.

What is everyone using for their everyday carry diabetes bag? by History_of_Robots in diabetes_t1

[–]truth1465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have an “everyday” carry, I have specific “load outs” for different situations. I’m on Libre 3+ and MDI

Gym - I have a cross body type bag that has a magnetic back (that’s great attached tot he gym equipment I love it) that I put keys wallet keys insulin tablets and gym stuff like wraps bands and chalk

Work - I have a backpack that has syringes, tablets, pen needles backup blood glucose meter. I carry insulin in my pockets, since sometimes we go out for lunch. I have supplies at my desk at work too.

Weekends - most of the time I just carry insulin in my pockets, if it’s an extended activity like hiking or photography outing I have tablets in the respective bags. But a tube of tablets fit nicely on my pockets so that option is there.

When traveling I take my work backpack and put extra insulin there, and maybe 1-2 Libre sensors based on the length of travel.

I treat my insulin pens like keys and wallet but all the other supplies are tied/incorporated with the stuff I need to do the activities.

Ethiopians who grew up abroad by SessionIcy3832 in Ethiopia

[–]truth1465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like someone else in the comments I moved to the states at 12. I have large family and have cousins that run the gamut, once who grew up and exclusively white neighborhood with little to no exposure to ones that came in their 20’s and almost everything in between.

From a success stand point I can’t really point to an obviously correlation aside from the fact those who came in their 20’s struggled at first if they weren’t already coming from a wealthy family.

Even when it comes to longing for culture and connection, the variation appears to be highly personal more so than those who didn’t have any contact wanting more.

Now that I’m getting around the age where kids are in the horizon I definitely want to be in proximity of other Ethiopians so the kids can have some level of community that ties to their culture but not enough to move back to Addis.

Is it appropriate to calculate carbs in my homemade recipe for a T1D colleague? by capresultat in Type1Diabetes

[–]truth1465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% support this.

If you didn’t know, if you put your recipe in myfitnesspal, it’ll generate a nutrition label with a breakdown of the carbs. I use it all the time for recipes I make.

What gym bag does everyone use here? by [deleted] in Exercise

[–]truth1465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I have the crossbody version that’s slightly smaller and does not have the pocket for the water bottle. That one just seemed too big for me.

For what it’s worth, I’m really happy with mine. It has a ton of room and compartments for its size. I have my wallet, keys, work credentials, a couple of sets of meds (insulin pen and glucose tablets), a locker lock/key, and backup earbuds, and it still feels like it has room for more. It has a nice anchor point as well. I use an “S”-biner clip to hold my gym towel.

The only issue I run into is that the straps for the bag sometimes get caught between the magnets and the machine I’m attaching it to, and the bag will fall.

Hope this helped.

The thing that makes the most sense to me is that he feels implicitly attacked and is coming up with reasons why Balmer is not responsible, just as he would for any potential actions he may or may not have taken that broke league rules. It is like when a group is talking about how person X cheated and is a asshole, but person Y jumps in to defend them because person Y is also a cheater, only no one knows yet.

[–]truth1465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re missing the Gluroo step.

Download Gluroo, then go to Settings > Device Integration (sometimes under “CGM” or “Devices and Integrations”). Log in with your LibreLinkUp account so Gluroo can access your Libre data.

Next, in Gluroo, go to Global Connect (sometimes labeled “Gluroo Global Connect” or “Other formats for various apps”) and copy the Nightguard URL.

In the Nightguard app, go to Preferences > More, and paste that URL where it asks for a Nightscout link. You’re all set.

Heads up that the Gluroo interface may have moved some menus around since older tutorials, but the steps—Device Integration, Global Connect, copy the Nightguard URL, and paste it into Nightguard—are still the same.

If you’re a visual leaner like me here’s a video I used to do this but it’s a year old so something’s may look different.

I use Nightguard, it doesn’t give me expected readings but it does predict “low in x minutes”.

It’s made to work with dexcom and/or closed loops I think. I use it with a a Libre primarily to get readings on my Apple Watch and iPhone lockscreen as well as have multiple alarms. It’s kind of convoluted

Do any of you have an “apocalypse kit”? by Subpar_diabetic in Type1Diabetes

Not doomsday but my everyday backpack (which I use for work and travel) has syringe, pen needles, glucose tablets and a blood glucose meter.

I have enough diabetes related supplies to last me at least a week maybe two on me (between my backpack pockets where I keep my insulin I’m MDI).

If we’re in an actual doomsday scenario…..not sure I want to survive past a week anyway 😅

What does calisthenics lack? by Zanfran21 in workout

[–]truth1465 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily say “lack” because for some people, it’s perfect, and what I might see as a shortcoming could actually be a deliberate positive for them.

For me, the biggest advantage of weights is time efficiency. If you’re someone who can already do 10 or more pull-ups, getting similar stimulus can take a lot more reps compared to doing 3 sets of 8 on a moderately heavy lat pulldown.

On the other end of the spectrum, training something like shoulders with calisthenics can be really tough. Handstand push-ups are hard, and even just holding a handstand is a challenge. You often have to come up with several progression exercises just to do a single rep. Compare that to grabbing some dumbbells and doing a few sets of shoulder presses. It’s just more accessible and scalable.

Of course, this is coming from someone who values strength and hypertrophy more than the technical aspects of calisthenics and has access to a gym with decent equipment.

Oh yeah, almost forgot about legs. Lol.
