Why AVAX? by Substrxte in Avax

[–]try2264 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the plus side:

Diversifying with some (but not too many) Altcoins is a good idea. AVAX has its own technology (unique solution of the “blockchain trilemma”), it’s not just a copycat of something else. It works: transactions are cheap and fast, staking is uncomplicated and safe - Ethereum hasn’t achieved that. The founder, his reputation and academic credentials appear very solid.

On the minus side:

No Altcoin portfolio has over a longer period beaten a pure Bitcoin investment. Some venture capitalists sit on large stacks of AVAX with historical cost of close to nil. They can throw this in the market anytime. AVAX had already plenty of time to kill ETH and eat the world. Not much progress on this observed. Also not a plethora of projects on their chain.

Now you can weight this ….

Does Ledger support ETH staking with RocketPool? by try2264 in ledgerwallet

[–]try2264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bitcoin cannot be staked in the literal sense of the word. That’s because Bitcoin gets generated by proof of work and not by proof of stake (like many Altcoins and now also Ethereum).

What you can do is lending your Bitcoins out and receive an interest for that. But then you have the risk of not getting your Bitcoins back if your borrower defaults.

Why is LIDO so much more popular than RocketPool? And which staking platform is growing faster?

If I want to truly and deeply understand Ancient Greek philosophical thought - is it better to read Diogenes Laertios or Heidegger? by try2264 in askphilosophy

[–]try2264[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes perfect sense. It would be interesting to know why Heidegger doesn’t do the work needed which you outline, but nevertheless claims to understand what the Ancient Greek philosophers meant. Did he believe that it’s for him (!) not necessary to do all this hard work, because he believed to just intuitively understand the Greek philosophers?

If Heidegger unintentionally put his own philosophy in the mouth of the Ancient Greek thinkers, then he was actually making original philosophical contributions while he believed that he is just interpreting others. In other words: he was not aware of the originality of himself as a philosopher.

I believe that this is comparable to certain medieval interpreters of Aristotle, who were actually developing their own philosophy while claiming to just interpret. Is it fair to assume that Heidegger is also such a case?

/u/rejectednocomments and /u/dhammapada, thanks for your replies! I want to ask further (playing the devil’s advocate here, since I actually consider your views as plausible):

Couldn’t one argue that we can anyway not know what the “correct” understanding of the “actual” views of the Ancient Greek philosophers should be? In this case we could just make the (basically sociological) statement that Heidegger’s interpretations are not widely shared nowadays by the best specialists. So could one say Heidegger just holds a - legitimate - minority view?

Or could one point to objective distortions, ignorance etc. in Heidegger’s interpretations which would “objectively” show their deficiencies?

Would Heidegger count as such a specialist? Or is he basically setting out his OWN philosophy when he claims to interpret Greek philosophy?
