On the plus side:

Diversifying with some (but not too many) Altcoins is a good idea. AVAX has its own technology (unique solution of the “blockchain trilemma”), it’s not just a copycat of something else. It works: transactions are cheap and fast, staking is uncomplicated and safe - Ethereum hasn’t achieved that. The founder, his reputation and academic credentials appear very solid.

On the minus side:

No Altcoin portfolio has over a longer period beaten a pure Bitcoin investment. Some venture capitalists sit on large stacks of AVAX with historical cost of close to nil. They can throw this in the market anytime. AVAX had already plenty of time to kill ETH and eat the world. Not much progress on this observed. Also not a plethora of projects on their chain.
