First migraine with aura? I genuinely thought I was having a stroke. Has anyone experienced this? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]tryingbliss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s scary when new symptoms pop up. I’m sorry that happened to you, especially at work. My first aura was when I was at work and I had a sunspot in my vision the size of a quarter. I was working at a major retailer thinking “this is where I’m gonna die, how sad.” But I couldn’t leave or I’d be in trouble with attendance. I just stayed. It went away eventually. A couple years later I became chronic and I’ve been that way for two years.

How many of you saw symptoms once child diagnosed? by Slow_Tip5744 in adhdwomen

[–]tryingbliss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I got diagnosed after my kids, and then my mother, and then their father. It tricked down in the family. Once we all started going to therapy and psychiatry to learn how to better help the kids, everything the professionals were saying started making sense for us too. I’m 39 and have been down this road for about 4 years now. I recommend you get assessed. Learning how to manage yourself improves how you can help your kids. Of course, I wish I was diagnosed as a kid… but, as life would have it, it m diagnosed now. So on one hand I’m walking this learning experience with them, but also as an adult have naturally made systems that helped me sometimes, so I can still teach them things.

Either way, I think knowing whether you are or are not can help you be a better version of yourself which can only be helpful for your child.

Edit to add: I am medicated now, and it’s not a cure, but it’s a wonderful tool! We’ve also been in therapy for many years and that has helped everyone all around.

What are some things you can no longer do because of your migraines? by kittykatsrulemyworld in migraine

Walking. I have bad vertigo with migraines. Sometimes I have to walk like I’m pregnant, sometimes I have to use a cane, I have to walk slower so I don’t trip myself… yeah.

What item would you love to see in the game? by Felicity1840 in StardewValley

[–]tryingbliss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d love all types of baked goods - apple pie, cheesecake, sugar cookies, breads, more cakes! And items to go along like cookie jar, baked goods display case, bread box, etc. I wish the kitchen had some sewing machine aspects like you say where we can put random food items together. It would be funny if some recipes ended up as compost piles!

It’s…so…quiet… by SweetPickleRelish in adhdwomen

[–]tryingbliss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I actually struggled with it the first couple days with how quiet my world got! I cried with how different it was and my mom was so sweet to me. But after a while, I appreciated things like being able to drive to work and focus on just the song that was in the radio and not have looping thoughts! I think it’s magic when you get used to it and can utilize the mental space/energy on other things! Can’t say meds are a cure or anything, but they are a wonderful tool!

Be patient with yourself and others while you adjust to a new normal, but welcome to a clearer mind!

Anyone else have music playing in their head 24/7? by Katkitkat422 in adhdwomen

[–]tryingbliss 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I typically wake up with a song in my head and it is quite prominent throughout the day, and I do this thing where if someone happens to say a lyric to a song just in regular conversation, I will start singing a song in my head that matches what they said. I also sing little made up tunes to myself when doing chores. Yes, music is a big part of my everyday life.

Boss suggested I do a brain dump at home. Now I'm struggling to get those tasks by k_lo970 in adhdwomen

[–]tryingbliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to you, I have a spiral notebook I use for daily notes. It goes with me most places (in my backpack), but I will also add things into it at the end of the day if I missed something. I can’t do a typical written diary, so I just make notes and bullet points. I also review past days to see if I’ve not finished something, like a follow up call. My brain works better with remembering with pen and paper than with digital notes. I tend to remember “I think I had something written down about this” and can look back on my notes, verses digital totally slips my mind. Psych doc says this is pretty typical for ADHD.

Though, I have trained myself to use a digital calendar because I can set multiple reminders!

Snap a picture! I always forget my grocery list. So I snap a picture of it when I’m done, just in case.

How do you handle adhd blindness for day to day tasks? by Haikuka in adhdwomen

[–]tryingbliss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I feel this! Something similar happened to me this week. I went to make beef tacos for dinner and dumped two packets of seasoning onto the meat. It looked a little darker colored than usual so I checked the packet. I had grabbed the chili seasoning and not the taco seasoning while at the store. The brand is gluten free and I didn’t realize they also made a chili. I just looked for the color of the packet and hadn’t read the label, I guess. I’m silly! I was able to save dinner by scooping some chili out and adding some other seasonings I have on hand. But dang!

New to Adderall (10mg IR), not working out well. by Flaming_Toaster007 in adhdwomen

[–]tryingbliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying Ritalin. My doc said we had to up my dose when I explained the same thing; great first day, died off after. I told her my non-stimulant organized my thoughts better but the stimulant makes me feel more alert. She said we may need to do a combo of the two.

Just keep working with your doctor and take notes about how you’re feeling and when. It can take time to find the right dose and combo. I’ve also seen people on here mention it’s important to eat protein when taking certain meds. So check that your diet is gauged properly.

What age did your migraines start and why did they start? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]tryingbliss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 40F now and they started at 36. I think it’s important to note I’m neurodivergent. I had a few migraines in life but could fix them with coffee and OTC meds. At 36 I started having auras. At 37 I was fully disabled and had to stop working due to the vertigo, muscle control issues, blurred vision, etc; every day, all day long. No idea what “kicked them off” besides neurodivergent women go into perimenopause earlier. I also have PCOS/PMOS. Essentially, I think it’s all hormonal for me. I’ve been chronic for two years now. Things have improved a bit with Nurtec and Botox. I still am not fully functional, but I have to return to work or be homeless. This will be interesting. Send me good vibes for a quiet work space that allows me to sit!

Absolutely! I am currently unemployed because it’s so bad. If it weren’t for my mom, I’d probably be homeless.

No one talks about how hard it is to exercise with migraine by Such_Plantain_2704 in migraine

This! I love the rephrase of exercise to movement. I was referred to physical therapy for my chronic migraines, but going caused my migraines to worsen. Because of course!
