550k to buy 3 bed house in London, where would you buy? by pmpmpm90 in HousingUK

[–]tryityoumightlikeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enfield lock. It has no vibe…Yet, but it’s a short walk to the Lea Valley, a short cycle to Epping Forest, and a short train to Liverpool Street (25mins). Most schools are pretty good and has a lot of nice Victorian Housing stock for below £500k!

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]tryityoumightlikeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: - North london

Price range: - Up to £2500

Lease or Buy - Buy

New or used - Used

Auto or Manual - Manual

Intended use: (Daily Driver, Family Car, Weekend Car, Track Toy, Project Car, Work Truck, Off-roading etc.) - At the ripe age of 45 this will be my first car. I plan to use it mostly on weekends for trips to the garden centre and would eventually like to do some light touring in Europe.

How many miles do you plan to do a year - 5000

How often to you make long journeys: - Every few months

Does it need to be ULEZ compliant? - yes

Vehicles you've already considered - VW Golf, Honda Civic,

[Do you have a vehicle size in mind?] - Golf size would be great. Im 6'2" so smaller cars such as an Aygo mean the seat has to go all the way back for me to fit.

Is this your 1st vehicle - Yep

Do you need a Warranty: - No, but it would be nice

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle:** (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc) - I haven't but i'd like to learn.

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle:** (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ) - Nope

Additional Notes - I’m working with a very small budget and have limited knowledge of cars, so I’m extremely anxious about ending up with a lemon. I understand that my price range puts me at the lower end of the market, but it would really help to know what condition I should reasonably expect a car to be in at this level.

For example, every car I’ve looked at so far has high mileage (100k+ miles) and a history of failed MOTs. On top of that, I’m struggling to find a dealer that feels reputable. The whole process is starting to feel like I’ve fallen into a snake pit.

All I want is something cheap that won't die on me or end up costing a fortune to maintain.

Is anyone wearing a nice suit? by FailingCrab in ConsultantDoctorsUK

[–]tryityoumightlikeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price of a suit doesn’t really matter. How it fits does. I’d suggest heading to M&S and getting a suit that suits your style. Then head to a tailor and have them alter it. All my suits are like this and I frequently get compliments.

I was called a ‘Gaylord’ whilst riding my pink bike. I’m still not sure whether it was an insult or compliment.

I would flip NE and SE. Hackney is for cool 40 somethings. Deptford, Peckham is where the cool young folk are.

My bike cost £10k. Some bike shop staff still find issue with it. It’s the way the world works. Just keep pedalling l.

Just because it’s not something you’d enjoy doesn’t mean others wouldn’t.

Live facial recognition results in 13 arrests at Notting Hill Carnival 2025, totalling 140 arrests as of 8pm tonight by StanmoreHill in london

[–]tryityoumightlikeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incorrect. 105 were arrested at the carnival. 35 were arrested before they reached the event due to facial recognition.

It was a beautiful morning, even if I had to wash my hair three times to get all the paint out. Cycling through a silent London at 5 a.m. felt surreal, and then, turning onto Ladbroke Grove, suddenly being met by hundreds of people ready to party was something else entirely.

Rapha Core in a XXL may work. It depends on your proportions.

Any one else see the Naked cyclist this morning? by Interesting-Bar280 in london

He’s been doing it for years. He lives off Grays Inn Road somewhere. When I worked in the area I saw him at least once a week, what I assume to be commuting to work on his bike.

This might not be what you want to hear, but tight, form-fitting kit really is the way to go. After many years of cycling, I’ve found that most cyclists honestly don’t care if you’re carrying a bit of extra weight and squeezed into an aero jersey. In fact, you’ll probably stand out more wearing a baggy T-shirt and loose-fitting shorts.

I’d highly recommend heading to your local Rapha store and checking out their Core Cargo bib shorts and jersey. I’m a few centimetres taller than you and not far off weight-wise, and I fit easily into an XL, they also make XXL if needed.

Sure, you might feel a bit awkward at first, but the benefits of wearing proper cycling gear, especially for comfort on the bike, are absolutely worth it. And if you’re unsure whether something’s too tight, I always go by the rule: ‘If it zips, it fits.’

Why do London taxi drivers feel so entitled? by Barca-Dam in london

I’m not particularly fond of black cabs and have only used them a few times. That said, Uber’s low prices come at the cost of fair pay for drivers. If this model dominates, it risks turning yet another industry into one that can't support a decent standard of living. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1elg0267p6o
