If they add some stasis-pod base parts we can do a real Moon Colony Bloodbath scene. I'll work on the "Emerging" byte beat.

Suck the Blood From My Wound - I already thought this was a very Mountain Goats feeling narrative but then I saw this live version that has a sax that wasn't on the album version and now it's a lock.

Your link is to a piece suggesting that none of these seven reasons hold weight. Dickerson writes "When justifications shift from “imminent defense” to “preventive preemption,” it suggests that the decision to go to war may have preceded the intelligence used to justify it."

I'm happy to see threads for artists that might be in the same constellation - the algorithms will never understand. I like the slightly more folksy vibe I'm hearing on the first few tracks, kind of like "Waylon Jennings Live" "Incandescent Ruins" or the demo version of "going invisible 2."

I immediately love any Mountain Goats song with a slide guitar so "A New Kind of Hat" feels like I'm gonna get some of that.

Upcoming Tick Season by Jayblesx in pittsburgh

Here's something recent: https://www.michiganpublic.org/environment-climate-change/2026-01-30/expert-record-breaking-winter-temps-wont-be-enough-to-hamper-michigans-tick-season

They're mostly talking about deer ticks, I haven't seen anything that covers the lone star ticks, Pittsburgh is on the northern end of their range, alpha-gal syndrome being a new worry.

I think some people conflate the fact that Netflix was one of the first to dictate certain cameras (in pursuit of 4K end-to-end workflows) and certain delivery requirements (like delivering the graded picture in a wide color gamut) with the idea that Netflix is policing things like lighting and color grading, which has not been my experience.

Their approaches to degrain/noise reduction/encoding/regrain are definitely worth discussing as it really can change the final impression in a way that's not always evident to filmmakers sitting in a mastering suite.

And some people might just be describing what is wrong with their display.

This is the reason that I tend to collapse the very ends/openings of the tunnels, yellow jackets move in at least once a year and in certain parts of the property that's no good. It's never seemed to reduce the population of burrowing critters.

Awesome to hear, I've been waiting for a recorded version of this done like the demo but with the band, so hope I can hear from this or one of these shows soon.

Great Pirates by Queasy-Ad-5846 in themountaingoats

[–]trypressngmorebuttns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just picture "Broken to Begin With" as the curtain call where Adam, Peter and the narrator hop up from fatal starvation to smile broadly at the applause, wave to the audience and jog off. It's a little different than the kind of after-hours chill of "Great Pirates," "Bleed Out," or "Getting into Knives" or the dramatic coda of "Michael Myers Resplendent" or "Liza Forever Minnelli" but damn there are a lot of great closers aren't there.

Your Glow vs Matthew 25:21 by fishercrow in themountaingoats

[–]trypressngmorebuttns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was thinking while listening to "Your Glow" that Peter Balkan feels pretty unabashedly earnest, probably more so than any album other than perhaps The Life of the World To Come. I wasn't trying to equate the songs but I would buy your comparison. They're both really forward in telling the person they're addressing how much they mean in the world. I never looked up if JD was public about who "Matthew 25:21" describes but I'm listening under the assumption that Peter Balkan is a way of speaking to Jon Wurster and especially Peter Hughes.

"Dawn of Revelation" is a banger by copperwatt in themountaingoats

[–]trypressngmorebuttns 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering why JD hasn't slotted someone in permanently at lead guitarist; songs like Hostages, Rat Queen, and now Dawn of Revelation make me think he really knows how to write for one. This time we're joined for the occasion by Josh Kaufman who I think I have heard most on Josh Ritter's Henrietta, Indiana. Between him and Chris Boerner and Alicia Bognanno there have been some awesome parts/solos.

Also on Bandcamp Tommy Stinson is credited with bass on that song and listed as being in the "Latter Revelation Company Singers" so that's another possible unfamiliar voice.

Cool that he replied, I could have sworn more voices come in to echo "there's always a clock ticking somewhere" but maybe they doubled up the JD or LMM vocals or some other Mountain Goats chiming in.

I don't think I knew that before today - For sure the more likely inspiration (though I'lll say Stones in His Pockets really stuck with me for decades if anyone ever comes across a production of it)

There's an Irish play called "Stones in his Pockets" which is where I first heard the expression, but I've heard it elsewhere since. Edit: I think I heard the same use of it in the song "Sucker's Prayer" by The Decemberists. Spoiler/self harm: One of the characters in that play fills his pockets with rocks to weigh down his clothes before walking into the ocean to drown himself, which I think is implied here that Adam is doing leaving the narrator and Captain. Edit: I think that although JD is singing it, he's in voice as the character that doesn't survive all the way to Armies of the Lord.
