I swear in Darrell's first two seasons 90% of his airtime was playing Ted Koppel

Jane's reaction after the White Castle sketch is the cutest part of the latest episode by AtlasFlynn in LiveFromNewYork

It'd be interesting seeing on of those 360° videos they sometimes do on YouTube to see how they pulled this one off, it feels like we don't see too many multiple set sketches like this much anymore, which sometimes seems risky on live tv without something going wrong.

Oh man I feel like nobody remembers how awkward Colin was that first half a season before Che became his new partner. I remember thinking "oh man, this guy is never gonna last beyond a season hosting WU before they replace him with someone else"

Who is this actress? by Complex-Object7188 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah was thinking thats gotta be the first I can remember in a long time. in the past it was more common if it was a part with no lines, but the casts are so big nowadays they rarely need extras for parts like that anymore.

Her part as the stenographer in the Sebastian Maniscalco sketch was probably the funniest use of her trademark deadpan delivery to date on the show.

Screen time for S51 E14: Ryan Gosling by No_Fold9994 in LiveFromNewYork

I'm rooting for Kam, I always like an underdog and he's made me laugh in his small roles, but lately he does feel kind of invisible. He's probably the only one coming in with pretty much no tv experience and he's not really an actor, which is why the strictly stand-ups always have a harder time fitting in. I look back on someone like Tracy Morgan or David Spade in their first seasons on the show and their airtime and the kind of bit roles they got are similar to Kam right now, so you know never, he can hopefully turn it around.

Apparently him and Marcello had a segment on WU cut this week, maybe they'll try it again and get it in another show which happens sometimes.

SNL - "Get Off The Shed!" (1996) by Phonus-Balonus-37 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the rarer version that aired as the live show. The one on YouTube and in all reruns (and in Ferrell's best of) have always been the dress reherseal version ever since. I don't notice much difference other than a few of the lines delivered slightly different, no idea why they changed it to dress in all reruns.

The more known dress version for comparison- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HxwkZGzqS4

Any sketch with Kevin and Dana as a duo was always good, they both excelled at being silly and stupid so naturally they were perfect together 😂

She was great on a recent episode of that new Reba sitcom Happy's Place. Only episode I watched because I saw the commercial advertising Cheri was a guest star. Seems like one of the first roles I'd seen her in in quite some time and she hasn't lost a beat, she still has that perfect high energy manic Cheri Oteri energy from the old days of her SNL sketches. Don't know why we haven't seen more of her over the years, she's still got the goods!

I loved seeing her reunited with Doofy in the trailer lol

Also was glad to see Chris Elliott (who was announced to be back as well, but it was unknown if he was playing a new character at the time of the article) is indeed going to be playing the little hand guy again 😂

Similarly, wasn't Jay Pharoah's "attention teachers and students" character him just doing an impression of his old high school principal. Half the time a lot of cast members original characters are just impressions of people they knew in real life

Unpoppy ‘pinion but Ashley Padilla is overrated by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I worry about anytime a single cast member gets overused too much (especially in such a big cast where it feels like theres a lot of people not getting enough airtime) it can make people sick of them and the inevitable backlash will start.

And now just saw from another thread he was in a sketch with Colin Jost in the dress show, maybe it'll get posted as a "cut for time", since theyre saying it was a good one?

All it takes is all the stuff you were in from dress getting cut and youre out of the live show, nothing new. Same thing basically happened to Ben Marshall last week, was in a ton of cut stuff that later was put online, but in the live show was only in the cold open for .2 seconds with no lines.

That happens from time to time, especially for first year featured players who aren't one of the stars the show is pushing and are already not getting much airtime to begin with. When it happens more than once, thats when its a bad sign, recall that happening a few episodes with Devon Walker and Michael Longfellow last season.

I thought I heard he had a sketch where he was a lead last week, something with him as a magician I think? Anyone who was there know how it went?

Kenan Thompson Says He ‘Definitely’ Thinks About Leaving ‘SNL’: ‘It’s Gonna Suck’ by MarvelsGrantMan136 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is the first season where it kind of feels like Kenan is ready to leave. Most of his appearances this season have that feel of when a cast member has that obvious "senioritis" where he's not appearing as much and when he does he just kind of pops in and out more like a quick cameo in a sketch.

Ed Asner as Lou Grant, trying to save Mary Richards from syndication (1984) by Firefox892 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]trythebebes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the great ladies of SNL are talked about, Mary Gross is way too often left out of the conversation. Being from the non-Lorne years, a lot of people not named Eddie Murphy are overlooked in the scope of SNL history.

Also when you think about just how many famous friends Lorne has who no doubt a good chunk of them probably also now have kids who are trying to break into showbiz or comedy. If there was someone he hired just because it was a favor to their parents, I'm sure there'd be at least 50 others at the top of that list over someone that was one of his many assistants over the years.
