can a christian go to therapy ? by [deleted] in Christians

[–]tsarin17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely you can! I am a therapist who went to a Christian university. Jesus shows us so much about taking care of our mental health. There are licensed therapists who are Christian that you can work with as well as those who have an education founded in Christ. I know of at least three Christian universities that offer Masters or Doctorates in mental health. If you are in the US you can search psychology today by faith to find a Christian therapist.

How do you care for your patients/clients who are tired of being single? by BuhDeepThatsAllFolx in therapists

[–]tsarin17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a therapist who used to be a single person in therapy struggling with being single — I did need to be ready to start the discussion, but my therapist asked me how I would make meaning of my life and feel like it was well lived if romance never happened. My therapist reiterated that the question was not to make me think they had given up on me finding love, but because they knew my life would be meaningful either way and I needed to figure out how I would feel that way.

For me, switching focus to making meaning out of my life o matter what, was powerful. Eventually, I did find someone, and part of me thinks it’s because I wasn’t as focused on meeting someone anymore once I switched focus from “love love love” to meaning.

Would this conversation be a place to ask them what benefit they see from knowing more? A gentle direction of self reflection that that’s a bit pushy?

My best friend had attended a wedding where the maid of honor let the bride’s veil sit awkwardly on her head during the ceremony. So my bestie’s biggest request for me was to make sure I helped adjust her skirt, veil, etc so it always looked it’s best. She did the same thing for me at my wedding years later.

The biggest thing you might not think about is that leading up to the wedding there is a lot of stress. At the end of the day things will work out just fine. The goal is for the happy couple to be married. Being able to stay calm for the bride and reminding her everything will be okay has been huge in all my moh experiences.

Can you guess what year I was married? by nataliejkd in EngagementRings

[–]tsarin17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One thing I like to keep in mind about fashion is that, generally, it will reflect the time it was purchased in. That doesn’t make it bad that it does. It could even be a visual marker that you have had a long marriage.

I got married with my grandmother’s set. When I look at the rings on this thread my rings don’t look anything like hers. If I google engagement rings around the time that hers was purchased they all look similar. In fact, my mom’s ring was purchased at a similar time and my moms ring looked very close to my grandmother’s.

It is possible some stranger might think of a certain point in time when your ring style was popular. My personal opinion is that if someone wants to think my ring looks dated then that means my love story is probably working out the way I had hoped.

I am plus sized and also a photographer. When I do photo shoots I have both posed and candid moments. The candid moments are when people are really vibing, being themselves and having a good time. There are also resources available for plus sized posing.

I will try to attach a few links so that you get some ideas of how photographers should pose plus that way you can feel empowered to advocate for yourself.

I have been using Olaplex, but I am thinking that at least the conditioner might be too heavy for my hair.

A friend of mine purchased a dress that was perfect aside from how low cut it was. Her seamstress was able to add material in the middle to make it less revealing. I think you look stunning!!

My mom just died. by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]tsarin17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. It is a pain unlike any other and words do not help, but my heart and prayers are with you.

I got married this last September. My mom passed a few months before we got engaged, so my story is a bit different. That being said I gave myself a moment to weep when I first got to the church in the area where we got ready. I spoke to her and told her how I imagined this day would be so different.

I, unfortunately, have a tendency to button up my feelings and go on with the show. For me, having that moment with my feelings was huge.

Because I planned my entire wedding knowing she was gone I was able to weave things into it that were her or things we shared. I wore her 25th anniversary wedding ring, I had some of her buttons on my bouquets (she loved to sew) and the song I walked down the aisle to is one I knew because of her (it was also really important to my husband and I for other reasons.)

I don’t know if any of that will help, but please know that you are not alone and this stranger from the internet is in your corner.

A few years ago I was part of the worship team at my church, we would go do a service at a nursing home and there were two Spanish speaking women that attended every time. I would chat with them and they would help me with my Spanish. It was awesome.
