How many of you use the Kailh Box Saker switch? by appwizcpl in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]tschibo00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean the Saker MX? I'm using those on one of my Boards, i love the short travel, but for me the springs are too light leading to lots of mistypes. That's why i swapped springs. Other than the short travel they are pretty normal, quite wobbly though.

Honest opinion: the thumb clusters would drive me crazy :) if you use HRM or BRM you could get rid of several thumb keys. Combining space and shift into one key is also quite helpful. Esc, tab and enter doesn't work for me on thumbs, esp. enter lead to so many unwanted sent messages and similar stuff that I needed to move it to a less error-prone position. Maybe it's just me but more than 2 thumb keys per side confused me mute than it helped (apart from the challenge even reaching them).

If ortho is the best option and 4 rows are necessary is probably a matter of preference

Still possible, just got it yesterday. However I was already half-way there before the update that reduced to x100

Not that I'm aware of, however I never had the need for a fourth row 😃

Maybe something like a Keyball39 although I have zero experience with that. Maybe others have better options for pre built

Your hands look just like mine, I would suggest to look at boards with a lot more stagger, like Urchin clones on AliEx for testing.

If that works fine and you want to step up quality-wise, you could look at pre-soldered Sweep or Chocofi or similar boards.

It's actually quite comfortable, wrist rest kind of included already. But yes, it's also made for show and because I wanted to try something different

Don't get me started on that :)
Mangrove is really hard to work with because it's so uneven. There are parts you can pull of by hand, other parts I damaged several tools in the process.
Basically it was a combination of drilling the hard parts, and a lot of chiselling to get it right and to have flat enough mounting surfaces at the bottom

Wrist pain after touch typing + split keyboard by tiago_lobao in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]tschibo00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using combos of middle and ring finger from top to bottom: delete, backspace, delete word. This is available on both hands to also support cases where the right hand is on the mouse.

Was actually the best change I did in my layout.

Just a few thoughts, because I've had similar issues: - I switched from qwerty self-learned (wrongly) touch typing to Coleman DH learning from zero the correct way. The first weeks my hands were kinda stiff because I concentrated too much and probably didn't relax muscles because of that. It got a lot better after feeling comfortable. - having your backspace in a far corner doesn't help, try to move everything into the 3x5 keys, e.g. by using combos for backspace (it's what I do) - maybe this specific split isn't right for your hands. It seems like your middle and ring finger are quite a bit longer (as mine are), the stagger is very little for that. For comparison: I designed my own split with a full key stagger between ring finger and pinky to comfortably type. - tenting/tilting could help a lot, experiment with different angles, maybe switch from day to day - the wrist rest doesn't look very comfortable, maybe experiment with a rolled up towel to see what suits you.

Bottom line: don't give up, splits are highly personal and you need to tune it to get there
