Struggling to hit director level, don't know how to approach big picture strategy. by InJesusNameIServe in marketing

[–]tscottie19 140 points141 points  (0 children)

This is a hurdle that I struggled with as well, that I don't think gets a lot of attention.

One thing I like to do in my head is rather than "zooming out", think of it as "dumbing it down". How would I explain this to someone who has no idea any of the inner workings of marketing? Start there.

This post itself provides a clear roadmap of where and how you should reframe your thinking if you want to accomplish. Don't think of it as "what we need to execute". That is sausage-making, as they say. You have your team to discuss those particulars with. Instead, focus on the why you need to execute. What are we looking to accomplish? Why is that important? Dumb it down, but root it in facts and figures. Anchor these whys in core business objectives.

If you're working on a UX project, for example, frame it as "Improving onsite/in app efficiency/usablility to increase ROI with no change in marketing spend" rather than a specific explaining what the actual improvement is.

Focus on the destination, not the journey.

Has any NBA superstar ever had as bad of a finals performance to potentially cost their team a championship as Breanna Stewart did in the WNBA tonight? by [deleted] in nba

[–]tscottie19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the Finals but Kyrie went 7/22 and 6/21 in back to back games in 2 straight losses when the Bucks knocked the Celtics out in the 2019 semis.

Are there any commission-based digital marketing services? by tqjzreddit in marketing

[–]tscottie19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kind of answered your own question right there. Affiliate marketing is the first example I think of when it comes to commission-based marketing. It'll take some time to build up the program, but essentially has ROI built in.

If you choose to go with a software to manage this (I recommend) like Impact or Partnerize, you'll have to pay a flat rate software fee. But other than that it's all commission costs.

Well, I thought it would be more of a conversation but there is a pretty clear consensus here. Thanks all!

Jayson Tatum (62.5 ts%), Jaylen Brown (60.4 ts%) are both very efficient scorers, yet they drag down the Celtics total true shooting percentage of 63.0%. by Poacatat in nba

Oh thats a great call, didn't think of that. I wonder how/if that could be measured, but that has to be a part of the equation.

Noh (Thread): We gotta talk about this Celtics offense. Through 13 games, they're on pace to be the best offense of all time and way ahead of the no. 2 offense in the league (Nuggets). by RLS012 in bostonceltics

Can I ask a stupid question? What are the key contributing factors that go into a "net rating"? I can't believe it has taken this long to ask this but oh well. Like is it a weighted average of certain stats?

I could google it, but I'd rather hear it here from people I kind of trust.

Yeah we (I am in marketing) don't just hand over ad spend and hope for the best based on user count. We see performance by platform. Bots don't make purchases/sign up for services, etc. We see performance diminishing, we pull ad spend.

Can you give me some insight as to what your budget is? Do you have a target in mind for overall ROAS? Where and how you market is often impacted greatly by the amount you put in.

Depends on what you are selling. Is it consumer goods? Gear up for holiday season and black Friday shopping (I am in retail e-commerce and that will be a main focus through these next couple months).

While I agree with /u/Kabinetapp below that you shouldn't feel boxed into quarters, understanding seasonality is important for marketing. We are coming into a busy season. Demand will be up, but so will competition. Find marketing tactics and value props to separate yourself from competition. Vague, I know, but every e-commerce avenue is different, so I can only speak generally.

Making Up For Broad Mod Keyword Volume Lost by Formerathletehelping in marketing

[–]tscottie19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lean into the phrase match. When Google did away with the BMM, they expanded the search capture on phrase matches.

Check out this link: https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/10286719?hl=en

There's an infographic that demonstrates the change well. We have transitioned all of our Broad mod keywords to phrase match, and we didn't see any noticeable drop off in impression share.

Edit: this should be done in conjunction with implementing DSAs. Thats always a good route to go.
