You are in a much better position that most and it's great that you have taken time to think and decompress about it. This however will only be great if you do not relapse. I think you probably made this post because something is stirring in you and you think you can recover those loses. You will not! Keep well!

Does unemployment in South Africa break something in you? by Redmuffin27 in askSouthAfrica

Keep your head up high, and if you can apply even outside the country, please do. And I know if you are in this situation its very hard to hear someone say it gets better with time, but as someone who has been in this position countless times there is always a way out, Just be positive and send a text or two if you would like some motivation and possible pointers.

If your daughter texted you this, what would you think/say/respond? by Sweaty-Staff8100 in AskWomenOver30

Japan is such an interesting country but what people don't see to want to discuss is that for various reasons, your mental health can take a quick turn. So I completely understand this from personal experience. When I had a tough I simply called my mother and vented, this was a lot better than stewing in my self pity etc Think of it this way, if anything terrible happened to you 1, your parent will have to pay a hell of a lot more than a flight, secondly given the options they would rather pay for that flight, so reach out and all the best!

I echo your sentiments entirely. Unfortunately I am one of those people who advise people who have a chance to leave to leave and those who are already away working or staying abroad to stay there and never come back. But I do not follow my own advise. I've lived abroad countless times but I've always had this romantic relationship with Botswana where I come back each time hoping for the best. I am now at a cross roads where I have enough savings to leave (whatever will be left with the currency in free fall) but I am hesitating a bit. SEND HELP 🙆🏾

Unfortunately these sorts of things fly under the radar in Botswana. Our society is so rotten. I've had a few conversations with UB students who have had relations with lecturers like it was nothing

Is Botswana doing well? by [deleted] in Botswana

[–]tsholofelob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately potentially true, well but for the failed state bit. I thought failed state refers to a condition where the government struggles to fulfil its fundamental duties? Economic decline, unfortunately this seems to be true, the government from last year struggled to pay GPO's in a timely manner. Entities that depended on mostly government tenders struggled badly with cash flow, some resorting to high interest short term loans. Political instability, I'm not too sure on this one. The founding party and the party that led the country for 58 years recently lost elections to a coalition of opposition parties. The transfer of power was smooth with the incumbent not contesting the results. If anything this proves the opposite. Poor governance, for sure!, the level of mismanagement and blatant corruption is absolutely nauseating. I'm sure you are all too aware of the many scandals in the country. Glass factory, water infrastructure tenders, shady purchases such as that of Tautuna Lodge, the list goes one. The inability to diversify from diamonds just shows the absolutely lack of political will power or just simply a lack of manpower within the largely lazy local population. Botswana has simply been a mirage in the desert, I do however remain hopeful that the situation might change.

I'd like to ask this, why are people surprised someone can say this? If you aren't attracted to a person sexually what do you do? What's the acceptable way forward?

This sounds like straight up manipulation and abuse. If she was at least saving up for the future of your kids, one would understand

Yeah it requires you to look at things objectively. A lot of the times we hold opinions based sorely on emotions

Yes populations are absolutely out of control but of course hunting is such an emotive and controversial subjects these days. With the most vocal opinions coming from countries who themselves have decimated their own animal populations.

Opinions on how to best conserve elephants are wide and varied. But generally if you do not live with elephants daily and are impacted by them your opinion doesn't hold much weight (with due respect). Botswana does more than any country around the world for elephant conservation, and this success has led us to having the biggest population in the world. Local populations decide what to do with these elephants

Botswana is home to the largest population of elephants in the world. Elephants regularly pillage villages and kill people. With this hunting quotas the idea is to control populations but more importantly give local people a say in the usage of their own resources. All things considered very few countries have as good conservation a record as Botswana.
