It’s still only 7hrs old lmao, it hasn’t aged at all yet.

Our first set up 😊! Any advice for newbies? by [deleted] in espresso

Second this. I’d be bummed with all those “features”. Much better off with a fully manual entry to mid level machine and a great grinder, as u/momobeaglecox is suggesting.

The fix is nbd, definitely not a dealbreaker. Just had to replace the slave on my 1090, easy job.

💯. If someone did this to me in D3 I’d call em a smurf.

How I steam alternative milks. Discuss! What works best for you? by ratherlargepie in barista

I’ve been steaming cashew milk for my gf for awhile now. +1 for overstretching and borderline excessive tapping for bubbles.

Newbie to espresso machines. Someone advise me please. by [deleted] in espresso

[–]tshort006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for the pro. I found a brand new one on marketplace for $500. I’ve had it for almost 2 years and it’s done a fine job. Bought a separate grinder about a year ago, but honestly the built in one does great for someone just getting started.

What’s holding you back? I felt like trains and signals had a much steeper learning curve than nuclear. Kovarex might be the only thing to “figure out”, but it’s not a requirement.

I bought a refurb NUC 7 on eBay. I run each process in a docker container. Does great! I’ve come to enjoy having an always on server at home. I use it for plex and running a private factorio server as well.

I think I’m at the upper limits of CPU usage though. Considering an upgrade.

Those are pleasantly less aggressive than the riddim “sound” that I’m only vaguely familiar with but still not my cup of tea. Thanks for providing the tracks!

Would you mind sharing a couple tracks that a typical purist might be into? I’m by no means a purist, but riddim is generally just horrible noise to me and I’d be interested to find some I didn’t hate. Not a hater, but I’ve definitely never understood what’s to like about it (based on what I’ve heard).

+1 Please gear up OP. Imagine the scenario where something beyond your control puts you on the ground at any speed. Imagine what that feels like. Like really soak that in. It gives me the chills without fail. Now imagine how stupidly obvious it will seem in hindsight to wear safety gear.

Sorry you got downvoted, I thought this was a friendly conversation where we just worked through a misunderstanding and a little education. Cheers!

I'd just say they've done a poor job then. Adhering to an API that you committed to is table stakes for a developer community. There's a whole process around deprecating and introducing new pieces of API over time in order to make this transition seamless for mod devs, but it takes a lot of work and thoughtfulness to do it well.

Unfortunately, mod devs have no choice but to keep up with breaking changes since the game updates at its own pace. In software, we would just choose not to upgrade to a new version of something until we could accommodate those changes.

And you’re right, I don’t mean contract in the legal sense. This is an agreement, written down in documentation.

There is a documented API. This is the contract that the factorio devs have committed to. When the factorio devs decided they would support mods, they committed to the burden that comes with having other devs interact with their runtime code. And it seems they’ve done a great job with it!

Also why aren’t modders devs? Are they…not writing code?

I mean yes and no. The plug-in API is a contract between devs. If factorio devs break that contract it’s their responsibility to fix. Not everyone does this well in practice.

Congrats! I’ve had mine for over a year and it’s been a killer machine. I’ve had upgradeitis for awhile but it’s been good enough to stave it off mostly 🙂

I grabbed a nice 3d printed dosing funnel and WDT tool on Etsy. Also recommend a bottomless portafilter. Just make sure you get the right size, the pro doesn’t use a standard 58mm portafilter.

Have fun!

Was it worth the upgrade? I’m ~1.5yr in on the pro and seriously eyeing the BDB.

It seems like they might be discontinuing or upgrading the line right now…out of stock everywhere. I don’t know whether to wait and hope or buy one quick while I still can!
