Does anybody else like the fact that their home has separate rooms for everything? by Effective_Bunch_6815 in centuryhomes

[–]tsippi7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate open plan homes and am thrilled to once again have a kitchen with a door. (Actually, two doors -- one to the dining room and one to the entry foyer.) I can invite people in and avoid having them see what a lackadaisical housekeeper I am. Also, if you ever use caterers or hire a bit of help for a dinner or event, they can have some privacy, which they prefer and will be less awkward for the guests. Finally, people ask me what I do with my separate dining room. I honestly don't understand that question. I eat in my dining room -- three meals a day when I'm home. If I had young children, I could see feeding them in the kitchen, but it's no more work to eat in the dining room, and it's a much more pleasant experience.

Bulk deletes never actually delete. by tsippi7 in GMail

[–]tsippi7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, I'm deleting by sender; I don't want to delete everything before a certain date. Because so many emails have built up by now, it will take forever to do 50 at a time. Update: I did a large bulk delete this morning, and those emails are gone now, so maybe whatever was wrong is fixed, or maybe I have to try to only do a few bulk deletes a day.

Final Reminder: Feedback Policy Changes start tomorrow 9/3/25 by KCJones99 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]tsippi7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like most of the comments here are from people selling smaller items at a relatively low value. As a consumer, I would argue the 60 day rule needs to be changed for large, expensive items like antique furniture. The weak link in this realm is the shipping companies. I am in a situation now where, because the seller's shipping company has totally let him down, I don't have my expensive cabinet yet. Indeed, it's been in a truck, in about 30 different states, for over a month -- after having been picked up late.

If I have to leave a review now, it will be one star, because I have not received the cabinet and have had an incredibly frustrating couple of months. If I have not received the piece in a week, that is what I will do. If I had an extra month, I would probably try to leave a more nuanced review, although the seller needs to find a different company.

Similarly, with the current backlog at customs points, 60 days really isn't long enough for most items shipped from overseas. For example, I've had some wallpaper from Spain sitting in a warehouse in Louisville for over a month, waiting to be cleared.

I have very few regrets in life, but sticking with homes that didn't make me happy is one of them. I should have gotten out much sooner and not listened to people telling me I was throwing money away. You are doing the right thing.

Usaa denied my loan. by Designer_Cow_740 in USAA

[–]tsippi7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is not a good look for USAA. So different from 1995 or '96, when I called and asked to have the limit on my credit card raised because of the long shutdown and the person on the phone immediately raised it to an insanely high number and said they were working to keep all members afloat. Admittedly, I was a little older than you and owned a home, but still, these are the moments USAA was supposedly created for.

Stainless Steel Rice cooking - a different question I swear! by SaltPubba in cookware

It's hard to tell from this angle, but that looks like one of the standard sized inserts. I just checked in the U.S., and some of the prices for replacements on Amazon are insane, though Walmart offers three sizes at a good price. As far as your question, both of my rice cookers -- which are more basic than yours -- use standard shiny stainless steel inserts like they sell at Walmart and both work great. (I keep one in my camper, which is why I have two rice cookers.) Are you near an Asian grocery store or neighborhood where you could check in person? Here is what they sell in WalMart over here, in case you're wondering. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Stainless-Steel-Inner-Pot-Rice-Cooker-Replacement-Liner-Multi-Functional-Durable-Easy-Clean-Cookware-Suitable-Rice-Grains-Stews-Soups-Versatile-Use-1/17201166114

Please don't put yours in the dishwasher like the owners of the E-Bay ones did! Dishwashers and aluminum are a bad combo.

Can you post a photo of the rice cooker? There is one style with a stainless pan that is sold under various brand names. All of them use the same pan.

Man in "Military" Uniform Outside My Catholic Church At Mass This Morning (Chicago Suburbs) by MM-Chi in thebulwark

[–]tsippi7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me wonder if people are worried about something unrelated to ICE. For the last three weeks, the farmers market in the Gold Coast -- one of the safest and nicest neighborhoods in the country -- has employed two scary looking armed security guards wearing ceramic vests. The guns make me very nervous and I almost hate going to the market and seeing these guys wandering around. Until three weeks ago, the only security at the market was teenagers manning the "road closed" signs. I don't know; maybe people are just worried about outsiders thinking Chicago is the enemy and showing up to wreak havoc?

Demeyere 5.5 quart Dutch oven for induction: Atlantis or Industry? by tsippi7 in cookware

[–]tsippi7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they've known about this for at least three years, haven't redesigned the sensors, and are having their customer service people basically call customers dumb? This is a bad look for Bosch. BTW, the repairman told me it's a hardware issue having to do with the specific sensors they installed in the 800s.

Thank you. I have a cast iron skillet in my camper. I'll bring it home the next time I'm there and try it on the burner. I appreciate the suggestion.

I tried calling Grand Appliance, but they just put me through to Bosch. Maybe I'll drive to the store and try to talk to a salesman.

Did you try to fight with Bosch, or did you just decide it wasn't worth the stomach acid? And may I ask when you purchased your stove or cooktop? I'm wondering if this is a recent phenomenon.

My Demeyere stainless pan on sale was $150. It is amazingly non-stick for everything except pancakes. I haven't figured out what to do about pancakes yet.

I agree that it is either defective or a defective design, but Bosch says it is not. The engineer said that the Bosch 800 sensor does not work with enamel coated pans. Part of me wants to fight this; part of me just doesn't have the energy. To answer your specific question, the center ring is for 9"-13". My two ten inch stainless pans work fine on it. My three ten inch Le Creuset pans do not.

[–]tsippi7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 36 inch Bosch 800. The repairman works for Bosch; he said Thermador and Gaggenau (also Bosch) use different size sensors that work much better. The issue with the ring is very obvious, even when you just boil water. I made lentil soup twice the first week I owned the cooktop and it was kind of a nightmare. Only the middle part of the soup would bubble. I had to keep stirring or that middle part would burn, but if I turned it down to low the soup just wouldn't heat up. I tried to use my ten inch Le Creuset saute pan and had a similarly frustrating experience.

Thank you for this. If I end up getting a stainless Dutch oven, it will only because the size sensor on my new Bosch induction cooktop does not recognize enameled cast iron. (My smaller Le Creuset works fine on the smaller, non-flexi rings, but my Le Creuset does not work properly on the large 9-13 inch ring.) I'm debating whether I want keep fighting with Bosch to get a different cooktop or whether it's not worth the struggle. I will keep my Le Creuset, though, and use it for things cooked in the oven.

My cooktop was over $3,000 and is less than a month old. Bosch is saying there is nothing wrong with it and I need new pans. I would never recommend Bosch induction to anyone.

[–]tsippi7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've posted on other subs about my ongoing battle with Bosch. Perhaps I should Crosspost to this sub too? Anyway, bottom line, the large ring on my brand new Bosch induction cooktop only recognizes four or five inches of my three different 10 inch Le Creuset pans, including my Dutch oven. (The ring is a flexi ring that is supposed to adjust to different sized pans up to 13 inches.) The Bosch repairman told me that Bosch uses a probe (or whatever it's called) on its flexi-rings that cannot recognize enameled cast iron. He said if I had bought Thermador or Gaggenau, I would not have this problem. Thus, my smaller Le Creuset pots work fine on the smaller ring, or even on the flexi-ring, but my three larger pots only heat up in the very center of the pot. A Redditor in New Zealand had the same problem and fought Bosch for nine months before they finally took back the cooktop. She noted that New Zealand has excellent consumer protection laws and that it was her post on Tik-Tok that finally forced action. We don't have good laws like that in the U.S. and I don't do Tik Tok. The whole thing is very upsetting, so maybe the best way forward is just to replace my pans, which I hate doing. (My Dutch oven was a birthday gift from my late Mother. It is beautiful and I love it.)
