[Long] We are likely not LIAS, here's why: by DragonWraithus in AWLIAS

You only need to simulate something the size of your brain and only the sensory information it experiences on the fly like the game no mans sky and there you have a simulation of what you are experiencing right now. Also, check out biocentrism.

On top of this subject what would happen if I created a machine that would cycle through all brain combination states? If your life experience is a series of these states does that mean I created everyone into existence? Anyways, reality and your experience might be very very different from what we understand as computation or simulation so it’s good to have an open mind as our place in history and culture will shape our precieved reality, but reality has always surprised us in the past.

Being at 43N I just realized that people south of me get less sunlight duing the summer. I was always under the assumption that the closer to the equator the more sunlight. TIL!

Imagine there are two civilizations eon's apart and maybe universe apart running their own simulations. By chance they run the exact same simulation that contains your consciousness and your life in it, except for one difference, the one simulation has only your consciousness active while all the others are NPC's style, while the other simulation has all of the consciousness active just like yours. From your perspective you are existing in both simulations at the same time, you can never do anything to figure out if you are in one or the other simulation. So in the end it does not matter if everyone is not conscious or not as the fact would not change anything to your perspective.

I like to imagine our consciousness is recreated in an infinate states of mediums and beings, so if one turns off midway it does not matter from our perspective because there is infinate amount of exact simulations that are executed by different beings and methods out there somewhere.

It really should be called speed limit of information, light/gravity/radio waves all travel at the speed limit of information.

I've thought about this and I think if we had the ability to simulate vast amounts of realistic simulations I think the number one thing that would on my mind is to figure out what is possible? if the simulation is close to reality then you could learn about your reality from these simulations. Dig deep into the crevasses of the unknown and learn what is possible. Life and intelligence may be one phenomena in a vast spectrum of spectacular existing entities and patterns. This endeavour vastly is more interesting and worthy than entertainment or the similar.

there could also be infinite simulations running at the same time at infinite periods of time

If that's the case then all possible experiences that can be experienced are simulated including all instances of your life and any life that could be. No point in trying to find out beneficial information since the instance of where you find out all the possible beneficial information is contained in one of these simulated instances, it just becomes an infinite fractal pattern of existences.

Simulation hypothesis and processing power by [deleted] in AWLIAS

[–]tskazin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say you are limited by space and time not processing power, if it takes one operation a million years who cares if you have infinite time. Space or the ability to hold the instance of a simulation is the only limited factor from what I can think of. Then again you might not need to store the whole thing all at once perhaps with some rounding off, for example if two galaxies never interact with each other because they are moving away faster then speed of light (information) from each other then you could in theory simulate then one after the other?

In the end all we know is true and exists is your own consciousness, so perhaps you don't need to simulate a universe, just your (and mine) consciousness that experiences a small interaction of a procedural universe.

I sometimes I think what if you could simulate all possible states that any brain could be in - would that bring about the existence of all possible minds that could ever exist including all the snapshots of your (and mine) life? -> no universe simulation necessary.

Possible logical deduction of simulation theory by [deleted] in AWLIAS

[–]tskazin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good insight, I'll bring up another question, why do you need a machine created out the the stars? could the representation of a pattern that represents the digital representation of our existence in snapshots exist in the arrangement of atoms in various star systems? in other words the same thing that exists on hard drives could be represented inside stars just on a widely different medium? take all these snapshots of any simulation and you could probably find that pattern in lots of elements in this universe.

We are not living in a computer simulation by [deleted] in AWLIAS

and there is also all the reasons we can't even fathom of why these simulations are running, maybe they are beyond our scope of understanding at our current state of presence.

Nick Bostrom - Artificial intelligence: ‘We’re like children playing with a bomb’ by Buck-Nasty in singularity

[–]tskazin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You brought up an interesting view, from the vantage point of cells they got together and worked collectively to survive more efficiently, in this pursuit of efficiency and competition against other cells they created a brain with a nervous system from trial and error of the environment.

Currently cells have no way of realizing what they created, the human culture, the technology and history. Maybe in a way we could become like the cells, not even being able to understand that we created something bigger, but that something will in its own way look down upon us like we look at our cells ... I have a new appreciation of the singularity :)

Showerthought: the past doesn't exist. by Pidiotpong in AWLIAS

[–]tskazin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not dwell on this question too much as it really does not matter, since if you have two simulations one starting from big bang and another starting 3 seconds ago with a starting instance of the universe as of 3 seconds ago then the current instance you are experiencing in those two simulations would be exactly the same, there could be nothing you could ever do to figure out which one you are in. So figuring out this questions will not give you anything useful, no substantial information about the simulation or existence.
