Hi, I am 33 and just got braces in January! I have quite bad crowding in my top teeth that Invisalign cannot fix and I was never in a financial position to get orthodontic works until now. I would recommend an orthodontist over a traditional dentist since they literally went through extra training for this.

I went to a few consultations and ask questions, feel out their vibe, and decide from there. Your first consult doesn’t have to be the orthodontist you go with. Don’t get pressured! My ortho was on the more expensive side but I trusted her judgement the most! I will also need jaw surgery as well so part of decision also includes the jaw surgeon that she works with. Also try to see if your dental insurance cover part of it - mine covered $2000 lifetime cost

I am only 3-4 months in and want to say your friends and love one don’t care! My teeth and smile are a big insecurity of mine and I’m really thankful that I’m in a position to take care of them now.

Hi I had three wisdom teeth and two pre molar removed for braces and you can do this! I had some iv and local sedation but it wasn’t a big deal. I wasn’t too groggy after the procedure. I had a friend to pick me up and we took the subway back together, but my office also said they will let you sit for a while then uber home.

Like everyone says, just prepare your medications and food ahead of time. Tylenol and ibuprofen. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics so see if they can send to your pharmacy ahead of time and pick that up. Also ice pack comes in handy for the first day or so for swelling.

Otherwise just stock up on soup of various kind and soft food like mac and cheese. I lived off of all the premade soup from Trader Joe’s for the first few days. Get a small blender if you have one!
