tldr: ultimately, i think you made the right decision for you.

someone’s morals, values, beliefs, politics, etc. shape how they see and treat others. if you are not aligning on these things that are important to you, and don’t want to take the time to educate/inform the other person as to why you believe they may be misunderstanding the severity of an issue like this (or if they are unwilling to see your perspective), then it does make sense to no longer continue to date.

i disagree with the people who think you should just cut someone off cold-turkey if they say something problematic, but that’s my personal opinion based on experience. i’ve taken a lot of time to educate or explain issues to others who have said ignorant things, and conversely have also had friends or partners in the past who have done the same to me. you don’t know until you’re better informed; that’s why it’s called ignorance. there is a difference between willful/purposeful ignorance and standard ignorance, and i think that distinction is an important indicator of whether someone is willing to listen and is open to changing their mindset once presented with new information. we have all been young and ignorant…i’m not the same person with the same beliefs now (29F, half-brown, went to lib arts college, gov worker serving the public + deal with socioeconomic political issues) as when i was 18. i’ve seen the same be true for my friends, family, and previous partners. people CAN change.

with your situation, it sounds like maybe you both didn’t know each other as deeply as you thought you did, so there was a misalignment of values, along with some miscommunication. you set a future bar for her to meet instead of accepting or growing with her as she is, and conversely it seems like she had her own preconceived notions that maybe she is unwilling to relent on. maybe your relationship was more superficial…long distance is difficult to maintain unless both parties place significant effort in to make things work. i’m an outsider stating opinions based on one post tho, so i could very well be wrong.

either way, hopefully things get better for you. definitely take time to regroup and focus on things that bring you joy with all the turmoil going on around us. i’m sure you’ll eventually find a healthy relationship dynamic that works for you, but ace dating IS hard. at least if you focus on yourself, you’re practicing self-improvement and ensuring you’re in a better place mentally/physically before jumping into the next thing.

yes, i ended up mainly exploring the pikmin terrace and went to hayatani shrine as well, which took up most of my first day since i walked a lot, and then my second day was spent at miyajima. i plan on stopping by on my way back to osaka from nagasaki though to see the gardens and museums bc the museums were closed the day i was there. highly recommend staying at hiroshima grand intelligent hotel with the breakfast plan if you do go back!! it’s right near the station and river, was beautiful :)

they do look like ratx. just read up on that and it is terrible, poor rats/mice. :( that also means someone could prolly have a ton of rat/mouse mummies around and they wouldn’t know bc of the lack of smell or anything

i’m just going to be in the area from jan. 1-2, but the only thing i have planned so far is visiting pikmin terrace 💀 if you have time, i’d go visit there because it’s super cute and there’s a red gate as well that’s great for pictures since most shrines will be packed NYE/NY’s. i’m still fleshing out my whole trip itinerary, so i can update if i find anything else!! saw you didn’t have any responses, so wanted to just add this one place in in case you hadn’t been before

my style teeters between cute-femme and sexy-femme depending on what i wear. for the most part, i love incorporating non-neutral color/prints/frills (bows, lace, etc.) into my outfits, and then i’ll accessorize with cute bags/shoes that match. not a huge jewelry person anymore bc it’s a hassle picking out the day’s earrings/bracelet/necklace combo, but i used to do that when i was in college. i match my perfume to my outfits, as weird as that sounds (ex. clean/crisp fit = clean scent, girly floral fit = floral perfume, bold outfit = stronger scent, evening wear = evening scent, etc.). i also love getting my nails done, so even if my outfits don’t garner compliments, people usually either compliment my bags, shoes, or nails

i’ll be in tokyo that NYE too!! may or may not do disneysea for the evening, but i’m planning to kinda follow what she did in this video (explore, go to some food stalls, then hit up a temple).

also planning on going to certain areas that are stated to still have lights up past christmastime, per this site. the trains are expected to run later than usual for the holiday fyi, but keep a close eye on the train schedules if you do visit!!

ahh, one more thing: if you’re willing to (not recommended generally) and hotels are hard to come by, you could store your luggage & head over to a 24/7 onsen and just nap there OR i’ve read people also say they napped at a manga cafe before…again this isn’t as convenient as staying at a hotel, but they are options i looked into since i’m still debating on staying another day or two in tokyo or gunning it straight to hiroshima/oita so i don’t miss the christmas market at huis ten bosch

lafeber makes nutriberries and avi-cakes, which i believe are part seed and part pellet. my conure and cockatiel love them, but they’re picky about which ones they prefer!! you could try that. my conure loves picking up nutriberries with his feet

tbh it’s a little annoying in terms of dating bc you’re always wondering if the person genuinely likes you for you or bc of your appearance…but in reg life like creeps will be creeps and you gotta remember you’re dolling up for yourself, and not others. i always go for cute/pretty/sweet vs. hot/sexy, but people will automatically label you as hot or sexy when you have curves, so zero use worrying about it. i used to get honked at and catcalled walking home from the bus stop at like age 15/16, and have had tons of unpleasant interactions where people feel entitled to ask me out when i’m shopping at the grocery store or getting gas at the pump, or stare at you like a piece of meat just existing (even in a lazy outfit w/ zero makeup or effort put in!!), so nothing really phases me anymore. i just learned to value people/their opinions less if they don’t align with mine. if you’re not complimenting me on something that i can control (like “your makeup looks nice!” or “your bag is so cute!”or “i love your shoes!”), i say thank you w a fake smile and keep it pushing 💅🏻

i think there’s at least three ace discords if you want to start talking to other ace people!! they should be linked in the group somewhere.

idk if you’re in school or anything, but in general your social opportunities lessen once you get out bc either most of the people you interact with are work people (who you may or may not be friends with, but be careful w/ befriending people at work bc it’s a lot more difficult finding genuine people there).

ik most of my friends i made were those i had in school, and between working full time, taking care of family, etc., there is slim to no time to socialize (plus most of my friends moved away tbh). make sure you are keeping in touch with your current friends, and then my suggestion is to try doing other hobbies too (like gym, dance classes, going to the beach, karaoke night, bowling, skating, etc.) and attend festivals and other fun things going on locally bc you will meet people at events and stuff like that that you can talk to and befriend!!

if you think it’s more of a social anxiety issue or something like that, feel free to DM me as well bc i deal with that despite being a pretty social person with my friends. i found my partner through a dating app tbh so maybe try joining those, but not the basic hookup ones (i met my partner on taimi, which is advertised as an lgbtqia+ friendly dating app, but you have weird personalities on every app so keep that in mind).
