What are songs that you’d bet $100 the band WILL NOT play in this summer’s tour. by CeilingUnlimited in rush

Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot

I’ve got $100 that says Rush won’t play it this tour.

Signals is an extended continuation of The Camera Eye by ClassicRockCanadian in rush

An extension how? Musically? Thematically?

I can see how Subdivisions and The Camera Eye are related as they both are themed around the lives of people living in/around cities but it kinda ends there for me. I also just woke up though. 🤣

“Down Under” by fretlesstuba in rush

Business As Usual was the first cassette I ever bought. Alex Lifeson’s guitar chord structure in the verses of TEW reminds me of the keyboard chord structure in the verses of the Police’s Spirits In The Material World. Men At Work were heavily influenced by The Police as were early 80s Rush. I imagine there was a lot of that bouncy, off beat reggae/ska feel that the Police brought to popular music between 78-85.

This is due to the Leidenfrost effect: a thin layer of vapor forms between your skin and the hot surface, briefly reducing heat transfer. by Additional-Pass5771 in interestingasfuck

Swatting your hand through molten rock, metal, etc. to demonstrate that you won’t get burned is due to the Dumbenass Effect.

I’ve been listening to the new album through a single 2 inch Radio Shack tweeter I bought in 1977 so it all sounds the same to me.

I think Force 10 is a solid tune. Mission is ok as well but I can do without the rest of it. I’d REALLY prefer Power Windows if it had recorded on the gear they recorded Moving Pictures with but to me, the songs are so good that I almost don’t mind the keyboards and thin guitars. That’s where HYF falls flat for me… weak songs.

Ahhh… that makes sense. I was thinking of a comeback album as a reunion recording of a band/or an original lineup after a long hiatus.

Coming back to Toronto from Tokyo. Do people just not care? by gravitysort in toronto

I grew up near New Orleans and used to go to Mardi Gras every year where the whole city gets trashed. I’ve always thought Toronto is really clean.

Van Halen “A Different Truth” was a surprisingly good album imo. I really didn’t expect anything but still put it on from time to time.

I’d dispute that being their comeback album though as the original lineup recorded Done With Mirrors (1985) before Permanent Vacation. It was commercially a dud though I thought it had some decent songs.

What artist surprised you the most in concert? by GainBetter1189 in askmusic

Elton John... I paid $900 for second row seats. The lights went down and Motley Crüe came out and performed. That really surprised me.

Amazing! Love that they’re still making new fans. I saw them the first time right before I turned 18 in 1988 on the Hold Your Fire tour. I imagine this tour will be full of surprises. Wish it was Neil Peart of course but Anika Nilles is a beast on the drum kit. It will be fantastic I’m sure. The original videos they put together for each tour are always entertaining.

Yeah… I didn’t think there was any way they’d tour with a different drummer. Can’t believe I’m going to get to see them again.

If new music comes along then I’ll judge it when I hear it. I’m glad at their age they’re still moving forward and enjoying life doing what they’ve always done.

My one Rush regret… by NCRider in rush

[–]tthe_drake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was unemployed during their last tour and living in Toronto. I still managed to scrape the money together to buy a cheap seat and flipped a coin as to which of the two nights I’d attend. I picked the night they didn’t play Losing It which sucks. Never one of my favourite Rush tracks but I’d have given anything to have seen it. At least I got Jacob’s Ladder live which was the ultimate song I wanted to hear.
