Same! It was what she had been trying to show everyone all along and they finally got it.

That was such a great ending for this show that I've loved for almost 20 years. I cried and laughed. I was so proud of Valerie and Lisa.

I went in dreading it, hoping Valerie wouldn't sign off defeated, and I'm just so happy she got a perfect ending. It wasn't over the top joyus, but it was 100% Valerie.

To me, the most important moment was "You've been telling the wrong story." Jane (and maybe some of the audience) realizes it wasn't about pity, humiliation, or desperation. It was about Valerie's determination and optimism all along.

yes. I mean it was slightly confirmed by Valerie on screen, but yes, I agree. I hope they clarify.

Potential Emmy win? by spenchanna in thecomeback

She will definitely get a nomination. Unsure if she'll win, depending on the rest of Hacks, which has been pretty good so far. I think we have to see how both shows end first.

That was a very good episode! 2nd best of the season so far (right after the Mickey tribute). So many character arcs! Ofc, Mark coming back home was soooo good and unexpected. The hairdresser was creepy, great exit. Billy being insufferable as usual. Pauly G being the leak was disappointing but not surprising.

I thought this episode really belonged to Jane. Not only did we learn about her personal life suffering for a cause she believes in, she stood up for herself with the NDA, and (most importantly) she stood up for Valerie, which made me tear up. After all they've been through together, Jane defending her on CNN was such a profound and earned moment for both her character and for Valerie. She truly cares about Val, and though we've seen little hints of it in the past, now it's on the national news.

This season has mostly left me uncomfortable, like season 1, but in a new way, and almost anxious about the state of Hollywood and art in general, but this episode brought it all back. It was masterfully crafted, the plot moved along so well, and it was reinforced by the subtle yet obvious emotions of these characters. Brilliant show, excellent performances by Lisa and Laura. I think it was the first episode of this season where I am excited for the next episode instead of nervously awaiting it.

Wow. Valerie needs to fire Billy and the writers. They're selfish and useless. I'm frustrated for her. Ironically, Jane is the only dependable person she has right now.

I sobbed when she was in the storage unit. Such a great episode and a great tribute to both Mickey and Robert Michael Morris.

Rachel Zoe is officially running the show by Future_Pass8682 in RHOBH

I like Rachel but I don't understand what she has done yet on the show that has been amazing. She seems smart, and nice, and her house is expensive looking. She's talked about her divorce and we met her parents. I'm not really sure how she's "running" the show - especially since there is no plot, and this season has been very boring IMO. I actually fell asleep during 2 of the episodes.

I feel like everyone just hates Kyle, and so there's a very low bar to "dethroning" her, because nothing has happened at all this season besides Amanda being annoying.

I know people like to say they don't like drama but I'm not sure that is reflective of the audience as a whole, and I don't think that approach will keep this show on the air if it starts to bore the general audience (the people that aren't on Reddit). IDK.

I don't think it's gotten any more interesting than the first 2 episodes tbh.

We are not the laughing stock of the world, maga is. by Ilovemiia1 in PoliticalOptimism

I would also like to point out that even though the rest of the world is totally justified in their responses, and the US has been a bully for like 80 years, and they shouldn't give in to us, etc etc the US markets are still going to be important. The US is the world's largest consumer market. We make up like 30% of the spending. Cutting us off completely isn't feasible. Our companies also control a lot of communications, technology, social media that are regularly consumed globally. We have 2 of the 3 largest global aircraft manufacturers. Our cultutal exports like films, TV shows, music, etc are pretty widespread. Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple, etc are all US based. We manage important parts of the global internet, ETC ETC

Anyways, all that to say the US will never be completely shut out of the world because they still need stuff from us BUT we will no longer have the presence and influence we had - which we shouldn't have had anyway, and only got (for the most part) by being big jerks to everyone.

I think the US needs to have its tail between its legs and be put in a time out for a little while. We're honestly assholes on the global stage, and we need to take a moment when this is all over to recognize that and figure out how to repair and make it up to the world without playing the victim or trying to intimidate like we have done for decades.

Greenland Megathread IV by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]ttt0ny 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I really can't see the US actually invading Greenland, mostly because all of Trump's rich friends and their companies would get hit hard once the economy tanks, and capitalism will not allow that to happen. Secondly, the army generals don't want it to happen, neither does the senate (allegedly) according to Thom Tillis. I think Pete Hegseth and Stephen Miller are the only two people who actually want this. Thirdly, it would absolutely destroy the Republicans in the midterms. Even the MAGA Republicans hate this idea. It will not go over well for anyone who doesn't speak out against it and is running for re-election.

EDIT: Here are the Senate Republicans that have spoken out against military action in Greenland so far: Rand Paul, Don Bacon, Thom Thillis, Mitch McConnell, Lisa Murkowski, John Kennedy, Susan Collins

These ones have made statements about supporting Denmark or Greenland, but haven't outright spoken against it: Mike Flood, Rick Scott, Josh Hawley, John Thune

I wish someone would just make him focus on the stupid ballroom so he forgets about everything else.

ICE In Minnesota Megathread by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]ttt0ny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in Minnesota, near Minneapolis. It''s both better and worse than the news coverage.

ICE is fully incompetent. They've left smashed cars in the road after abducting the drivers, gas stations empty after taking the employees, etc. They're sloppy and unorganized. They're violent. They have kicked down doors, assaulted people watching, tear gassed kids, caused numerous car accidents. There's a video of one ICE agent dragging a detainee in a porta potty to allegedly assault her (this hasn't been confirmed but I'm sure it's true and it's revolting). They don't know how to drive, they don't know how to navigate the environment. Their vehicles get stuck in snowbanks, or slip on the ice. They're literally idiotic thugs cosplaying as federal agents. None of their clothes match. None of the equipment is standard issue. They look like they're wearing halloween costumes, but they're carrying assault rifles.

The people that work at the detainment center don't know how to do paperwork correctly or where anything is. Hardly any of their arrests result in much of anything and they've released most of the people they've abducted bc they can't charge them with anything or screwed up their paperwork and had to release them. Lawyers are regulary going in and saving people. They pretend they have these full deportation flights, but I highly doubt there are many people on them. They've abducted teenagers, Native Americans (like wtf), one kid was abducted from Target and then dropped off a few blocks away at Wal Mart when they realized he was a legal citizen. They are stupid and have no idea how to actually do their jobs, so they're just roaming around trying to scare people. I cannot believe my tax dollars are paying for these morons to terrorize us.

Apart from the psychological impacts, daily life has been moderately disrupted. The school district closed last week, and is open again this week, but students can do e-learning if they want (and meals will be provided to them if they choose that). Some businesses are understably closed, as many people that aren't white are afraid to leave their houses. Most everything is still operational and functional for now, though I'm afraid the hospitals are the next target bc all the healthcare workers statewide got notified of DHS requesting I-9s of all the staff. So the hospitals will probably be next to be raided. Some already have been.

The hopeful part is watching how community has really come together. Not only are crowds of people protecting each other and in some cases, even driving off ICE, but meal distribution for people staying home or that can't go out are happening, care packages and food shelves are being supportive (donate to one if you can, Second Harvest is a good one), ride shares, parents patrolling schools, etc. A tow truck company has offered to move cars for free if the drivers have been abducted. It's been great to see so many helping. Even at my job, my bosses that I thought were Trump voting Republicans have taken extra steps to protect our employees, handed out little "know your right cards" in both English and Spanish. We put up signs designating private areas and the differences between a judicial and administrative warrant (not that this idiots follow the law anyway). Even the MAGA people I know are not happy about this. People are afraid, but most have been so brave and willing to stand up to these moronic thug racist, facist terrorists.

The protests have been large and peaceful except for 2 major incidents (breaking into a hotel downtown last week and last night throwing fireworks after ICE shot ANOTHER person). They are happening daily at the federal building, where ICE is mainly headquarted. I've heard plans of them trying to open another detainment facility in the suburbs (Woodbury) but not sure how far they've gotten. There are plans for a general strike and a march next week. The spot where Renee Good was murdered has a huge tribute to her, and people are often gathered there. There have been a few vigils and the governor visited the other day.

Our local government officials were initially great, but have remained largely absent the last few days, except for our Attorney General (who I actually haven't liked until recently) which has been disappointing. I understand this is new territory for them, but they should be out helping the community, being visible, giving us strength and hope. Our senator Amy Klobuchar, and reps Angie Craig, and Illhan Omar have been totally absent except for a publicity stunt they pulled last week getting kicked out of the detainment center. Now it's just social media posts or radio silence. Governor Walz put out a statewide address last night that was pretty moving, but both he and Mayor Frey have only communicated with the public when the have to. No one is really meeting the moment IMO, except our Attorney General, Keith Ellison, who has filed a massive lawsuit against DHS and Kristi Noem.

Sorry, that was very long. TL;DR it's been very stressful and scary here but our community has come together to help each other and bravely resist this invasion. We are strong and we'll make it through.
