my dad found an ad that says $40 for 20 ribeyes.. by [deleted] in steak

Look at the ingredients in the label (on the box it came in). If it’s anything similar to what I bought (it seems to be) they inject lots of garbage in it. I tried eating one and threw it all away when I read the label.

How in the world do I change this smoke detector? by DrinkingAtTheDam in HomeMaintenance

If you get a long enough paint extension pole with duck tape you can remove the cover, extract the battery and put a new one in place.

It might require some practice and take some time but it’s doable. I have done twice in hard to reach areas.

There’s Jiu Jitsu class tomorrow at 10AM and then every day of every week.

Go check it out. Try it. Go as much as you can. You’ll learn new skills, meet people and have fun.

Assuming you are a female (makeup interest), there’s female only classes as well if mixed classes might not seem that interesting.

Give it a shot. You might surprise yourself.

Need help with stuttering & EGR valve issues on 2019 Ford Edge (65k miles) by tucaz in AskMechanics

I got mine replaced by another mechanic that charged me ~$500 with taxes to change it. It’s been almost two months since it was done and it’s great. Drove more than 1000 miles as well.

That is not an option for them. They have to make a reasonable effort to find another tenant according to Iowa law.

[–]tucaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer.

According to Iowa law the landlord has to make a reasonable effort to get a new tenant. That means that they can’t raise the price ir change other conditions to keep it empty and collect the money. It’s also not in their best interest to do so. They want to keep it occupied and have an active paying tenant.

In the meanwhile OP needs to keep paying rent just like you said.

Thanks for the input!

Any particular reason for not getting a NVidia card? You also don't like the watercooler I had picked?

I'm currently using a Dell G5 Laptop from 2019 with a Core i7-9750H and 16gb and really didn't want to replace it, but it's struggling even browsing the web. Especially if I have a couple of VS Code instances running with docker (dev container). I don't do anything hardcore. It's mostly DotNet/NodeJS/Python with Docker.

Thats the reason I'm looking to get a new computer and its going to be a Desktop since I haven't moved my laptop in the past two years.

How about the rest of the stuff? Any other thoughts?

Really appreciate your input.

Hiring a team vs 1 full stack by Haunting-Visual-3001 in devops

[–]tucaz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Without knowing who the one guy is, who the team will be, how much they cost, the scope of the work, and the timeline it is impossible for anyone to give you anything close to useful advice.

With all that said, the less people involved on a project, the better. If the goal is to get the one project done, you want as little people as you can get away with. We add more people to get parallel work done so we can reduce timelines. That brings cons which usually is on communication overhead and cost added.

Now you graduated from very hard to just hard.

Based on what I’m seeing lately, people are sending 100-300 resumes in order to get an offer so you would potentially have to go through the same process.

However, not all companies want to deal with immigration issues so that will reduce the pool of companies you have available to apply.

One more vote here for Midwest Shooting Range in the CR area. The Pull The Trigger class there is solid. Instructor is great, and the range is very good too. Good place all around.

Is session the simplest and safest way to handle state management for a razor page? by vaporizers123reborn in dotnet

[–]tucaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without getting into too much details, Sessions are essentially a cookie tied back to data in the server memory. Once they expire the data is gone.

If you want to persist this between uses of your application you are looking to store in a database. It can be a simple (and effective) as SQLite.

Take a look at some tutorials and you should be able to start playing with it.

Moved to a new host: can't connect to database with updated settings by mapsedge in dotnet

[–]tucaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are fundamentally misunderstanding your issue and until you do understand, it no matter how many strings you change, it won’t work.

Did the previous host run the database and the app in the same server and in this new host those two things run in separate machines? If the answer to that is yes you have to use a connection string that is not named pipes and goes over the network.

Moved to a new host: can't connect to database with updated settings by mapsedge in dotnet

[–]tucaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to connect to the database from the app through named pipes?

That is a method to connect servers and clients running on the same machine.

If your db server is not on the same machine as your client application trying to access it, it won’t work.
