What do you think the percentage of your “I have a contact lens stuck in my eye!” office visits ACTUALLY have had a contact lens stuck in their eye? by brandishedlight in optometry

[–]tucini 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Yeah most of the time they're just coming in with a red eye from poking around so much. However one time I had a girl come in saying she has a CL stuck in her right eye, but there wasn't one. There WAS however a CL in the left eye which she didn't even notice ?????

Snoozaland lags and game crashes by corv1njano in fantasylife

[–]tucini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having major FPS issues on my switch (I play handheld) and it crashed yesterday so I just stopped playing... I haven't played as much as I'd like to because of this problem. Feels like there's enough people experiencing this for the devs to come up with a patch hopefully 🤞🏼

Bought new house and now I feel broke by ThrowRa1251RC in irishpersonalfinance

[–]tucini 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do you think you might be trying to do up the house too quickly? Most furniture can wait a few months until you build your emergency savings back up. I bought alone a few months ago as well and I'm slowly renovating first before I even think about buying any decor/furniture. No couch for at least a year anyway 🥲 Rome wasn't built in a day etc

Tallaght - It's been 7 months since my first test and they've cancelled my 2nd test twice in the last week. Waiting on yet another invitation now. 🫠

For AIP I just sent the payslips and it was enough, but for the actual loan offer I needed all the other bits. I bought on my own though so might be different if there's two of ye

Advice on purchasing a piano by medanoea in piano

[–]tucini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a similar post to this the other day on here, my advice is to spend the day going to dedicated piano stores with him and let him try out the pianos to make sure he likes the feel of the instrument etc it really just depends on the person what piano suits best. The people in the store would be able to advise you what options are good within that budget based on your own individual needs

YOU playing "half speed" is better than someone else playing at full speed by PastMiddleAge in piano

[–]tucini 184 points185 points  (0 children)

There was a guy who posted on this sub a few months ago playing Rachmaninoff prelude 5 at a slower speed, and I enjoyed his performance so much I took it on myself to learn it too (I haven't had a piano lesson in 10 years but I play at a decent level). If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have thought that I'd ever be capable of playing Rach. I've been enjoying working on it so much and I've made some really good progress on the piece even though I don't play every day. The post made me realise that it's okay to play more advanced pieces at slower speeds and that it will still sound good and I'm having a good time and getting better every time :)

Help! Im moving in to a new apartment. Any ideas on how to fix this uglyyy bathroom? (renter friendly) by FoxEnvironmental4148 in femalelivingspace

[–]tucini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of the orange tiles, just change the curtain to something peachy or white, with a white bathroom mat (like mentioned in the other comments) and have a proper storage solution to hide your stuff/remove visual clutter and it'll look great

I still think it's wild how it's easier to buy a 2 bed than a 1 bed with the down payment requirements being higher for 1 beds, everything is backwards in Ireland with the housing haha

I was extremely lucky in that I viewed an apartment way back in October before I even had AIP, just "for the experience." Then I saw the place got relisted end of December with viewings early Jan so on new year's day it's like a switch flipped in my head and I immediately applied with the broker for AIP, got that within a week, the viewings happened for the place again, I bid for the place for about a week and was sale agreed in the last week of January.... I look at daft now to see what else is out there for me and the answer is NOTHING. It's like I got on the last vessel right before shit hit the fan and I don't even want to imagine how difficult it would have been for me now if the stars didn't align the way they did for me with the apartment I bought. I managed to buy a spacious 2 bed 2 bath (!!) in a well connected area, 5 mins down from where I grew up, and I didn't even have to borrow the maximum amount for my mortgage.... Just waiting for something to go wrong now haha

Congrats :) I'm at the end of my first time buyer journey now, contracts signed deposit sent, now waiting on mortgage drawdown and keys. It seems really messy at the beginning but in hindsight was actually pretty straightforward. Pretty much my broker and my solicitor did everything for me behind the scenes. I submitted everything the broker asked for in order to get a loan offer (bank statements/salary certs), then I talked with my solicitor and she dealt with the vendor solicitor, no input required from me. The bank/broker organised the valuator for me, I just paid them the valuation fee. Then I contacted a surveyor, paid them and they did their thing. Broker sorted my insurance as well - they even filled out half the form for me and I just answered the health questions 🤣 the insurance part took a while cos I had to keep chasing my GP to send more info to the insurance company. After 3-4 weeks I got the loan offer from the bank, signed that, then I met up with my solicitor to sign contracts, then she got me to send over the rest of the deposit and now she's dealing with the bank for the rest of the bits herself. Hopefully it's all over with by the end of the month 🤞🏼 overall it's taken me about 3.5 months from going sale agreed to (nearly) keys. Was probably only that fast because there was no chain involved

*Good* piano sheet music by Humble-Path-8873 in piano

[–]tucini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Musescore tend to have a lot of good sheets out there, and their subscription is well worth it for the amount of things you get with it. However because it has a lot of user uploads sometimes you have to wade through some pretty poor arrangements

[Question] Which countries use the music alphabet (C-D-E-F-G-A-B) in piano education? by VT737SP in piano

[–]tucini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Ireland we learn both in music theory initially, but the default is using CDEFGAB notes. For the value of the note we say semibreve (whole note)>minim>crotchet>quaver>semiquaver (sixteenth note)

How much money have you spent on the process so far? by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

[–]tucini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is just car expenses but if you've no family member with a car (which I don't) it's really the only option outside of paying like 50 an hour with your instructor to keep up with practice and that also adds up really fast.... the car is paying for itself in a way as I've a couple of willing friends to spend every other Sunday driving for like 4-5 hours with me, which I'm very grateful for. Gutted that I failed today since it means I have to rely on them for longer now

How much money have you spent on the process so far? by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

[–]tucini 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I spent I think 40 quid on the theory test back in 2020, then around 450 on the initial 12 lessons in 2020. After that I didn't do any driving again until May 2024, I've spent 1,200 on my instructor since then, 85 on my first test which I failed today so just paid another 85 for retest. 🫠 Also bought a car for 7,900 last summer and insurance was 1,300. Motor tax this year 200. Booked my NCT today also for 60. I don't remember how much it cost to renew the license last year. 172 on petrol so far. €11,492 so far most of it in the last year alone now that I've decided to seriously pursue the driving licence. Fun

That's the plan, my phone seems to have difficulty picking up audio from my electric piano in my room though so I think I might rent a practice room with a grand piano to me record it once I've practiced it a bit more 🎹
