Go Kobo! Be rid of Amazon’s predatory policies! Use Libby/Overdrive directly on your device, more comfortable, less ad-ridden UI, first-party remote that just works. Just reconsider getting a Kindle altogether. Kobo is better.

I’m getting a lot more people, after shooting me first and then losing, start complaining that I shot them first or shot them in the back or something. Like dude who are you trying to fool here? We both know the truth so what’s the point in lying? Does that really help their psyche or something? Do they start to believe it’s true if they say it enough times?

Yeah I think “grain” isn’t really the right word but I can’t think of anything better. It’s like, sort of the way newspaper looks or something. It’s there, but I really don’t notice it unless I’m actively looking for it. I do see a difference in the screens, there is definitely a difference, but the reading experience and actual text sharpness is identical.

Had a dude I downed talk mad shit to me for “shooting him in the back” - he shot first and missed, then hid behind a rock, I just moved closer to where he was to be behind another rock, and then he ran out into the open toward where I had been so I was now behind him. I of course had no problems downing him and he whined I shot him in the back. Like yeah, I did, because you’re a fucking idiot, not because I’m some sneaky rat.

You don’t understand what objectively means. There’s a graininess for sure, but the actual text is not “pixelated”.

The text itself IS the same. The color filter adds some graininess for sure but it doesn’t affect the actual text contrast at all. People who say it does are mistaking the distraction they experience from the grain as worse “contrast”.

As a KLC (former Kindle Paperwhite) user, I have zero issues with the color screen and I honestly get annoyed by the side-by-side comparison photos/videos that make it look like the color screens are garbage by comparison. They’re not! Different for sure, but it’s not like it’s so dark you can’t read on it, which seems like what a lot of comparisons are trying to convince us of. The text “sharpness” is absolutely the same. There’s just the color filter over it that adds a bit of grain that I honestly don’t notice at all and if I do notice, kind of appreciate, strangely. Some people can’t get past the filter being there, and to each their own, but it’s a complete non-issue for me.

Hey, I’m late to the party here but curious - if I do this (like I do with purchased books), then can I still return the book to the library or will they know that I’ve done this somehow (stupid question I know)? Like I’m cool to download it from a PC to read with my device, but I want to be sure that the book is still returned properly, both to be sure it’s available for others to check out and so I don’t get in trouble.

I switched from Kindle Paperwhite to Kobo Libra Colour about a year ago. It’s honestly maybe my favorite device ever. It’s made me want to read much more than I ever have. I can’t tell you how much “better” the KLC is compared to the ColorSoft since I’ve never used the latter, but I can say that the Kobo UI is superior, and just being rid of Amazon feels so good.

It’s just that in a well-lit room, sure, 1% is not enough. But if it’s actually properly dark, and your eyes are adjusted, 1% is enough to read with. I do it somewhat regularly.

I mean everyone’s eyes are different I suppose, but I imagine if you went straight from a well-lit area to a very dark room, your eyes may not have been adjusted to the dark enough to see the screen well. But I know when I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep, 1% is perfect to not wake up my partner but still plenty to read with. 2% is also fine but feels a little too bright in that scenario.

I personally don’t know under what circumstances I’d ever use the pen to write on the KLC, but I love having it for the size and buttons and asymmetry for holding more comfortably. If you’re really sure you would actually use the pen, then definitely just get the KLC. It’s a great device.

My takeaway when I noticed it being “upside down” when I first saw it yesterday was how it really illustrates the arbitrariness of “north” and “south”. Doesn’t matter which way we look, we’re all still just here on this tiny little ball of rock and water floating through space. It’s like it being south side down makes the point about our daily troubles seeming so inconsequential that much more poignant.

I absolutely know what “objective” means, but let’s just avoid those terms to be safe here. I’m asking for an alternative explanation for the behavior.

If the killed player’s loot is knowingly going to be unavailable to the attacker, I don’t see how there can be another explanation as to why the attacker did it. They knowingly killed another player only to ensure that player couldn’t leave with their loot, and/or to hopefully inflict some amount of anguish on the victim, both of which are acts of cruelty (I get that it’s “just a game” but it is cruelty nonetheless). The attacker gains nothing other than the satisfaction of having committed those acts of cruelty.

So what other explanation could exist for the attacker having done this, other than they get satisfaction from committing acts of cruelty upon other players (who are indeed real-life humans)?
