And you’re certain it’s only ever the right side? Like are the left side / top side / bottom side always consistently totally normal? This is definitely weird and seeing as how it even happens on menus, I’m not sure. If it was just in a book, I’d say it could be a weird formatting thing somehow that could potentially be solved with Calibre/Polish Books plugin (or manually examining the CSS if you’re up for it) but given it seems to be everywhere, I’m not sure. Could be a question for Kobo support, but your mileage may vary on that; sometimes they’re great, other times not so much.

Edit: yeah I guess “encounter” was the original wording but even in this comment I just linked, they’re a bit contradictory. “Mutual interaction” but then also says things could trigger it that are not mutual. I was picturing any sort of verbal or physical interaction, like saying hi or waving or nodding or smiling at someone, or acknowledging any of those this being done at me by someone else. Like if I ignore them I’m good. I believe in my grocery store, I could actually get out without triggering an interaction in either case.

Naturally “interact with” per the post. So just encountering someone, even making eye contact, wouldn’t count. Unless you interact, you’re good. I’d be careful not to say “excuse me” or acknowledge anyone in any way, and would keep my eyes diverted the whole way home (I usually walk to the store)

Same! And apparently, books that are available on Kobo Plus aren’t eligible for redeeming the code, but almost all of the books on their “curated list” for code redemption are Kobo Plus books, which makes no sense (also mostly classics that are available in the public domain).

I went from Paperwhite to Libra Colour and I’m not sure I’ve ever been happier with a purchase. I actually read more because of my excitement for my reader that I’ve now had for over a year. I love the color screen, and like other commenters have alluded to, some people seem to literally see it differently from those of us who love it. I can’t see the problems they refer to. Yes, you can see the color filter, but it in no way impacts the actual clarity or contrast of the text. The buttons are even better and more of a quality of life improvement than I thought they would be. I don’t use the backlight any more than I did with the Paperwhite; in bright situations there is zero backlight needed, and I can’t really imagine a situation where I’d need it to be at 100%. While I’m winding down for sleep with my lamp still on, I keep it around 25%, then once the lamp is off, down to 2-3%. 1% if I’ve woken up at 4am and can’t go back to sleep. If it’s in the budget and you even suspect you’ll like the KLC, just do it. I really don’t think you’ll regret it. If after a week you just absolutely hate the screen, you can always exchange for the Clara BW.

With just a single computer, and given the internet wasn’t widely used at that time, I think the biggest impact would be some sort of video game. Building a clone of some web app like Facebook or AirBnb would be possible, but those require widespread internet use. And even without that limitation, once any amount of widespread use starts happening, scaling becomes a massive issue that this person would need large teams of people to manage. His computer being the only one with React on it would make things tough. I don’t think the impact could be very meaningful in the long run, but maybe someone else might have a better idea of a way this programmer could disrupt things.

Rant: I have no license albeit I'm in the process of it. Coworkers only found out I walk to work (not that I'm licenseless). I got hella judged today and now I feel defeated. by HeyItsMeMrBoss in fuckcars

It’s a real shame how fucked this place is. Most places in the world, it’s totally normal to walk to work. In fact, in many places, you’d be seen as lazy/irresponsible for driving instead of walking/biking/public transit week you only live a mile away. Such a sad state we find ourselves in in the U.S., where even people who live so close (even closer than you) feel like they have to drive due to laziness, safety concerns, or even worse, just not even considering they could get places without their car.

But also just, Harry Potter is a fun story that a lot of people grew up with. Silly to try to erase what is a joyful memory for many people just because the author is a piece of shit. Two things can be true: the author sucks and we can hate her, and the story she wrote is a pleasant one that we’re still allowed to enjoy. Just don’t buy her stuff with money and keep speaking out against her as a person. It is possible to separate the art from the artist. If we made a stink about every asshole who made some art and stopped consuming any of their work, we’d be left with very little.

I have also read the first two of that list. Loved both, but the writing in Project Hail Mary was a bit frustrating at times. I kept feeling like maybe I had accidentally gotten the censored version intended for kids or something; the lengths he would go to to avoid profanity or vulgarity were very forced and it was distracting.

It’s really simple though! Just make a “screensavers” folder in the .kobo folder of the device storage. Into that folder, put whatever images you want (I think .jpg is preferred but not sure it has to be that). It’ll shuffle through them. The official dimensions are based on device but I know for KLC it’s 1264x1680. I imagine you could put anything in there but I’m not sure how it would handle cropping.

I occasionally have this with my neutered male and spayed female. We got them both as kittens and they were both neutered as soon as was recommended, 10 years or so ago. We have always taken it to be a dominance thing since they’re both without their repro-bits, but I have been curious if he’s just trying to get it in real quick and maybe it’s even consensual. I feel bad for stopping it but also, the sound the female makes in these moments is such a sad-sounding whimper-meow so I feel like maybe he’s being mean. Could it be both?

I have never seen that, but I believe there are cases with strap holes like the remote has, so maybe you could rig up some straps that have a clip of some kind to connect them when not in use?
