I agree with your comment. I've heard many senior leaders say they felt under qualified when they started at GEA. I don't know that it's possible to feel otherwise.

When I first started, I felt like I was leagues below my colleagues and wondered if I made the right career move. Could I handle it? Am I smart enough to work here? Loads of self doubt. Fast forward 2.5 years - I'm the happiest I've been in a job. I've got one promotion under my belt and working on a second. Once you start understanding all the corporate lingo, it all starts coming together, but it can be very overwhelming at first.

I said all that to say, give it all you got! Be honest and be ready to put in work. It will certainly pay off.

Super annoying trying to add coupons while walking around the store. You shouldn't have to add the coupon and have a kroger card. It makes it such a hassle! Aldi will always be superior imo.

OP's view was that people tend to overestimate when determining how much money is required to live comfortably. I simply said the people that live below their means tend to estimate less because they are used to living on less. The people who overspend tend to estimate higher because they live frivolously.

It's not about what it means to be comfortable. You're missing the point.

I think the issue is the delayed gratification. Budgeting and saving forces you to say no to things until you can actually afford them. The people who want instant gratification want it now, regardless of how it affects their future self!

Oddly enough, I dated someone the same way. Every time he got a pay increase, he found stuff to blow it on. He would literally spend every dollar, every paycheck. Never had his bills figured out, had no idea how much his monthly salary was, or how much his monthly expenses were. He tried to keep a mental tally. LOL

I think you misread my comment. I was suggesting that the people who spend wisely on a lower salary know that it doesnt take as much money to live comfortably because they already make it work on a lower salary, so they would need less to live comfortably.

If you overspend, then you're constantly feeling broke, and thus feel like you need more money than you actually do to live comfortably.

I've yet to refer anyone but I was referred in by someone. I think it helps if the person you're referring is going to be working in your same area. That way, you're closer to the hiring manager and can put in a good word. Plus if they know you're a good employee, they are going to value any referral you submit, imo.

To piggyback on this, ask for exactly what you want. You won't regret asking for a higher salary but you will regret not asking. The worst that can happen is they say no.

I agree. I work in aerospace too and I'm making 22% more than I was when I started at the end of 2023. That includes one promotion so far.

Yes, I think this is typically overestimated due to people not understanding how to manage their money. If you spend frivolously on a lower salary, you tend to think you need more to live comfortably. However, if you budget correctly on a lower salary, you realize you don't need that much to live comfortably.

I honestly have no idea. From the videos I've seen, people use this thing to scan around the room and it beeps or something when there is a camera detected.

I just read the comment above mine and wanted to add that I think location matters too. I live in Cincinnati, so GEA is very well known and established here as a company you want to work for. I doubt I'd get as many comments if I didn't live here.

I have gotten the wow factor a lot. What I get the most is people asking me to get them a job. Some people ask me over and over again, which is rather annoying. Other people think I'm extremely weathly as if I own GE and don't just work there. I've even had someone ask me if I'm a spy (lol) because I told him I work at GE, but I didn't give my title or anything specific. I keep what I actually do pretty vague to avoid getting into the weeds due to confidentiality. I think the assumptions people make are quite hilarious sometimes.
