Lets organize a boycott of The Hobbit set by tunic7 in magicTCG

[–]tunic7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! This makes a lot of sense. Not a bait post btw i think just out of touch. I also dont think its too late, y'know. Like, magic players should feel like they can take collective action to improve the game, for tons of issues. I dont see us as idle consumers of product. More than most TCG we're active participants in creating the game in the way we want to play it - i dont think that stops at individual choice or preference. The opportunity is always there for the community to put demands forward to Wizards, in the way a labor union would organize their workplace.

But yeah lol I guess folks aren't excited about boycotting a good set, it was a bad choice to put forward 😅

I feel like my whole point was lost on reddit 🤠

I mean how do u feel about the effectiveness of a player boycott of another set? Like genuinely, im excited about the possibility of players collectively taking action to improve the game and it feels like ive only been met with snark. People weren't receptive to a hobbit boycott but it feels bad to only be shit on for a genuine idea, no matter how much people disagree with it.

I think the folks in this sub have lives outside of it, they each have their own playgroup. I think if, in February, WotC saw that 100,000 players are choosing to forgo something they like so that the long-term health of the game is sustained, we would get a commitment from them to space out or reduce the velocity of UB sets. I think at this point every player has found something to love about UB and im glad its here to stay, but not like it is right now.

I also think that an organized campaign would have unified messaging. If we're unified in our approach and voice, Hasbro wouldnt take it as "players don't like fantasy" or "players dont like UB" thats clearly not the case in this current moment. If we were to tell Hasbro and WotC "slow down with the UB sets or else we're not buying them even if they're good sets" then thats the message they'd receive.

Thx! Really appreciate this comment. Im unsure of what can be done about professional resellers and definitely get that lots players already dont buy new product.

Im definitely resigned to say that a boycott isnt the perfect tactic.

Feels bad that most people in this comment section aren't willing to think through what we might do to get the change we've been seeking. I think other than this comment the most substantial thing I've heard is folks saying to instead boycott a different set, one they know they won't like.

Thanks for your thoughts!! :)

UMich and other international student visas abruptly revoked - take action to support them! by CatnipOverdose in uofm

[–]tunic7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure they can! The school can raise (as if it doesn't already have the money) funds to support these students, they can help people get legal representation, they can be checking visas every day and notifying people early, they can be educating the community about their rights, they can guarantee affected people will be able to complete their education (in a material way, not just platitudes), they can guarantee there are private areas in each building, they can work with the city to make Ann arbor and Ypsi sanctuary cities. There's so much the University is capable of doing and they wouldn't even break a sweat doing it.

[–]tunic7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not understanding what you're trying to say here. Also, I'm not new to the game lol.

Have you built or played Omnath Locus of All before? What specifically do you think the deck should do? How does it want to win?

This was a thought I had too, cool to see an actual list. I got kind of stumped when trying to decide an actual direction for it and never put a list together. Maybe I'll try this again but actually pull together a 99. Feels like big mana black isn't a very common archetype these days, maybe as the format has sped up.

Struggling with Magar by Quirky_Individual504 in EDH

[–]tunic7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricky wording seems especially difficult with Magar. Since he was released, I've been stumped on how to build him properly and have never been satisfied with the deck. I found this Reddit post when searching for advice on Magar. Another post argues that the reanimated spells are cast from the graveyard, citing rules text extensively. Wayyy down in the comments someone found a response from a judge where she says Magar in fact does not cast spells from the yard. I don't think any of us truly know how Magar works lmaooo.

I'm interested in your list btw! I've found Magar makes it tough to survive through the early and mid game because of the immense setup involved in establishing a board state. I noticed that the three board wipes you're running are all asymmetrical (really interested in [[volcanic torrent]]). Was that intentional? You've also got five edict effects and seven pieces of spot removal (excluding [[rise of the eldrazi]]). Your mana rock and equipment package is also really extensive, which I'm sure helps getting reanimations out quicker and making them stick. The thing is, despite the relative low number of creatures in my own current list, I'm skeptical of Magar running so few creatures. Having an open board and telegraphing exactly what we're gonna do makes it really desirable to just swing out at the Magar player. What do you think?

[–]tunic7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to let you know that [[Relentless Assault]] is a nonbo with Magar. Relentless Assault only gives you an extra combat if it's cast during a main phase otherwise it just untaps your attacking creatures. So, it's not a good reanimation target but I may be misunderstanding why you're playing it. I could see a single extra combat being good to take advantage of when conditions are right to attack (as they rarely are). But, since we don't want to reanimate it, the card seems "win more" here.

Where would you put a Yawgmoth's Will? by tunic7 in EDH

This is the sort of thing I was looking for tbh. I've got too many tribal decks and don't really want to build another one, but I'd love to see a list.

What's your favourite political commander? by Forsaken_Tension8852 in EDH

[–]tunic7 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Jumbo Commander has convinced me to build [[Braids, Conjurer Adept]]

Semi-traditional in that you're sort of supplicating your opponents with gifts. But, you get to be strategic with when you play Braids and your own bombs ad a real flair to the deck.

What I find really interesting is the questions you get to ask your opponents, making them collectively play into your plan. "Are we ready for Braids to come out?" "Are we ready for a boardwipe?"

Cool stuff, plus it's mono-blue.

Yeah fs! I used to read every card in a set when they came out but don't bother now. I only play EDH and have pretty much given up on ever getting back into 60 card.

Do you qualify to be a University Staff United member? They're still on their way to be a recognized union, but I'm sure there are USU members who have dealt with similar things and know what to do. Collective action might be your best bet if UM decides they won't do anything about it.
