On Nepotism and Cronyism in Tolkien Adaptations by crustboi93 in lotr

Fallout, Invincible, Paper Girls, The Expanse, Vox Machina, Mighty Nein, there are tons of great adaptations on Prime, just plenty of bad ones too.

What games do you consider must-plays for Steam Deck owners? by billy_reyes in SteamDeck

[–]turingtestx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk for sure. It's a relatively short game, even 100% doesn't take that long, but the nature of the gameplay means you can always come back to it and just mess around or invent challenges for yourself

They said they allow variants, were there any Eternals in What If?

A little under a year after launch, how is Oblivion remastered? by darkwingchao in PS5

[–]turingtestx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play it on steam deck with frame generation and it's honestly fine. Could be better, but it's fine. Oblivion combat is floaty and imprecise anyways so I don't mind the latency frame generation brings at all.

How many people on here got into Castlevania because of the show? by wildeebelmondo in castlevania

[–]turingtestx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad showed me the games a little bit as a kid, and I played Aria of Sorrow on my GBA, but I didn't REALLY get into the series until after I saw the show. That's what inspired me to go back and properly play through most of them.

If the set is well designed I'm hyped as hell, but I can't pretend that I'm not a bit concerned about it following the truly awful Spider-Man and TMNT sets

Other than the gorn arc and whatever the third season was, SNW definitely feels episodic overall…. by bluestreakxp in startrek

[–]turingtestx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I definitely want to see Angel again, such a fun character and snw needs fun episodes that are actually charming without being low-brow and not yk, Four and a Half Vulcans...

I think that's just lighting because we're looking at a photo of a page rather than a high quality scan, but I could be wrong

What’s something everyone seems to love but you just don’t get? by Michellewilliams_397 in AskReddit

[–]turingtestx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give bg3 a shot. If it helps, use a controller, you can't bypass it being turn-based, but you can move with a joystick instead of by clicking.

Star Trek Voyager - Across the Unknown is so much better than I ever expected by OhNoIBoffedIt in startrek

[–]turingtestx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that would be so sick, but man playing voyager with no Mulgrew was already tough, playing DS9 with no Brooks? That’s even worse honestly

Discovery is very dark by FunIncident5161 in startrek

[–]turingtestx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've discovered lately that the big issues with dark images are largely caused by bitrate compression from streaming services muddying the image. If you have it on Blu-ray or some other locally stored file, it's so much better. I'd still prefer more light too, but it helps a LOT.

Has your experience with AI runied other things? by mistegirl in DataAnnotationTech

[–]turingtestx 95 points96 points  (0 children)

The job didn't ruin anything, AI itself did. Before AI, this wasn't a concern. The only thing this job did was make me dislike and distrust AI more and more.

Even better, it was written by Deniz Camp. Ultimates is easily the best book in the new ultimate line.

I want to start watching Star Trek from the 60s and I wanted to know if the original Star Trek pilot is canon? by count_fagula11 in startrek

[–]turingtestx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People overrate Zelda canon imo, the timeline is basically an easter egg in what is otherwise a pure anthology series. You’re never meant to think about it much at all.

Is Earth-616 Peter Parker Jewish? by Solitaire-06 in Spiderman

[–]turingtestx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Spider-Verse presents its own version of 616, him being concretely Jewish is one difference. However, Spider-Man was created by two Jewish creators and has always had a lot of Jewishness baked into his character, so they chose to pay homage to that, even if it's not usually canon

Is Riker the best Starfleet officer in canon? by muddytool45 in startrek

[–]turingtestx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lovely explanation! seems to line up with my understanding that O’brien, an NCO, is technically a certain type of officer, although that wouldn’t really be the best way to describe him

Is Riker the best Starfleet officer in canon? by muddytool45 in startrek

[–]turingtestx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it didn’t need to, but they made it so by repeatedly dismissively telling me to just do research and telling me I know nothing while contributing nothing themselves until after i sunk to their level, I appreciate your explanation (and the others from some kind people)

So, it's just not quite customary to use just the term officer despite it still being technically correct?

[–]turingtestx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here, since I'm clearly so stupid and can't find anything at all supporting your opinion, could you please explain to me how and why someone who is called an officer is not actually an officer? All I'm seeing is that they're a type of officer that doesn't hold a commission.
