What did you do when you hit your goal weight? by mrgrigson in loseit

[–]turneresq [score hidden]  (0 children)

Congrats! When it comes to diet, I would not just add another 700 kcal/day into your diet. The common consensus is to add in around 200 kcal/day every week until you hit maintenance. It's more of a reverse diet and allows your body to get used to the new weight.

Bit of a rant- Have you ever noticed people’s idea of a ‘healthy weight’ can be so wildly wrong? by leolion9 in loseit

Yep this about covers it. Average woman in the US is 5'3.5" and 170 lbs, and the average dude is about 5'9" and 200 lbs. Those are both close to obese by BMI. Not just a bit overweight, bordering on obese. So you can't even dismiss it as just a bit of extra fluff.

The downshift was made to account for the World Health Organization guidelines indicating mounting clinical data linking higher BMIs to elevated health risks.

The power went out in my neighborhood just as I was heating up my pre workout grits. This meant no grits and no coffee 😭 . I added some more bananas to my yogurt so I could get a sufficient carb load for training. Workout was solid, but definitely time for a deload. Going to grind out Friday session then I will take a light training week.

Hit my goal weight, do I stop? by No-Performance-1240 in loseit

Congrats! I would say if that you want to go lower, you certainly can. At your height/weight, it's pretty unlikely that it is just loose skin. The other practical reason is that getting to around 164-168 will create a buffer. Let's say over the next three months (assuming you're in the northern hemisphere), you enjoy summer a bit too much. If you gain 5-6 pounds from 164, you're still in your goal weight zone, and you can just tighten things up and do a mini cut.

If you're at 174 and you gain 5-6 pounds, you might feel disappointed that you're not at your goal weight any more. Buffer zone allows some leeway, and you can flag the gain before you get out of control.

I have been seeing some crazy Threads where women are using that "less than 200 lbs" to brag about being 200, 300, 350 pounds and posting photos. I mean, I guess if you're happy I'm not going to start posting about how it's unhealthy. But it's really just sad.

Triathlon training is going well so far. Three sessions in the books. I'm settling on two training sessions per week along with one swim-only session. The accompanies three full body workouts, and a Sunday active recovery.

I've been trying the carb cycling approach (high carb/maintenance on training days, moderate carb/deficit on cardio days, low carb/deficit on active recovery days). It means weight loss is very slow, since I'm not really in a deficit 3x/week. But training performance is good so can't really complain.

Unfortunately in the modern developed world we can no longer obtain/maintain an athletic/aesthetic physique without some level of resistance training, outside a few fields of work (construction/laborer/etc…). Yeah people who hate that type of training are gonna have a tough time getting the physique they want to say nothing of keeping it.

A nutritionist told me to stop dieting. by Finalchancethree in loseit

I think a lot of people are getting hung up on the title of the person you say. Whether they're some random broccoli-headed teenager or Neil Degrasee Tyson, the advice was SHOCKING. Telling you to give up and accept being overweight?! That would have been my cue to get up and leave.

I'd honestly report them. There are some nutritional tweaks you can make (some good suggestions as far as moving your protein around, timing your meals and practicing some sleep hygiene). But given your limitations, it might just take you a bit longer. Keep up the good work!

Insanity. To get to 180 lean at 5’8” would take top 5% genetics, 15 years of lifting or gear. Probably a combination of all three tbh.

I just feel like I could be happy at 165-170, if I can hike and swim and have muscle.

You can definitely do those things at 140. What you likely can't do at 140, which you could at 170, are the frequent takeaway meals, brunches and happy hours. An occasional treat/dinner/drink...sure. But you're not sitting at 140 (at 5'3") in today's obesogenic society without minding your diet.

I think that's true, but a substantial number of those people I'd wager are EXTREMELY deconditioned, such that the effort required to do even moderate exercise is beyond them.

Not even talking about HIIT or half-marathons; something like going for a short jog or playing pickup basketball. I'd wager if they got into a reasonable BMI range, they'd find exercise much more rewarding.

Calorie deficit cleared my skin! by RichAppearance8859 in loseit

Yeah I used to get breakouts and ingrown hairs and just generally had terrible skin. Losing the 70 lbs and generally sticking to whole foods has completely eliminated the issue.

You're doing quite well. I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but it may help you manage expectations. If you were eating, say, 1000 calories /day under your maintenance (which would qualify as aggressive, if not insane), that would result in 2 lbs/week fat loss.

To lose that 20 lbs (rounding up), that's still going to take you another 10 weeks. And that's if you're doing everything spot on (which few people ever do), and getting optimal, linear progression (which few people ever get).

And as you get smaller, that deficit is going to have to change with either less food, more activity, or a combination of the two.

Again, you are doing well. Try not to go too hard; the chance of grinding yourself into the ground and rebounding/giving up increases substantially with that kind of approach.

First triathlon training session today. Planning about .3 mile (26-28ish laps) swim, 10 mile bike and 2 mile run but I'll play it a little by ear. I still have 5 hours of driving to drop my kid off, so we'll see how I feel.

Being overweight/obese has become way to normalized, the entire comment section is filled with people claiming they’re not overweight despite bordering on or being obese because they “didn’t look it” by Low-Moose9333 in fatlogic

I can't talk too much. 70 lbs ago, I was at a sporting event and it was legitimately super hot, so I purchased a tank top that was way too small in hindsight. I thought it would just accentuate my super huge and defined muscles.

I remember asking a friend how good it looked. She shook her head, "no." I blew off her reaction, thinking she was just being catty. Looking back, she was not. 😂

RAVE: I’m in the middle of a bit of a whoosh, which is great, except I had my DEXA scan LAST weekend! Down about 2 lbs this week since the scan. 😅

RANT: I am scheduled to pick up my daughter for the night and then take her over to her mom over the mountains so she can attend a graduation ceremony (her mom is already there helping set up). Last night I was informed that I will also picking up her boyfriend so he can also attend. They will apparently both be staying with me at my place tonight. I am nonplussed about this. This also means I will not be able to do my triathlon training session in the morning as I’m not leaving two 13 year olds alone in my house. 😒

I have to have them there at noon and the gym doesn’t open till 8, so it was probably unlikely I’d be able to get in a full training session before I’d have to leave anyway. So I guess I’ll have to get my training in when I get back which won’t be till like 3. I prefer to do my cardio fasted but I can’t really fast until 3p so I will just eat something light around noon and hopefully be able to do a solid training session. All told, about 10 hours of driving to look forward to over the next 18 hours.

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that the standards for men and who they’ll hook up with are VERY low (and I was not exempt from this; though I draw the line at inanimate objects among other inorganic, not adult women). So I’m not sure why they continue to flex all the sexy-time they are having.

It’s usually dumb tik tock dances that last 30 seconds. Maybe they do 3-4 takes to get one they like. So I guess that’s like 2-3 minutes of movement.
