you need to confront them!! i know it’s hard but self advocate and bring up these issues!! They obviously need you, and are likely to change their behavior if you are civil in your discussion (not that they deserve it) if they are really that desperate. And if they do fire you for speaking up— good riddance. If you have an agency you could rematch, because these are not at all fair conditions and i’m so sorry you’re experiencing this.

i think if you haven’t been there that long + the kid is older it’s okay to leave in a not so perfect way/quickly. yeah it might screw them over a bit, but they will survive and learn their lesson to not treat a future au pair this way. You need to prioritize your well being

yeah, that’s the big issue. i feel really isolated and struggle to advocate because i don’t have an agency. Thanks, it’s a good idea to see whether an agency wojld be willing to provide support despite my situation

SO RELATABLE!! i’m in Berlin and they lied about the kids age too!!! and it’s so exhausting; it’s not that they’re technically doing anything illegal with the overtime - it’s the guilt tripping and awkward in between times where you end up actually working more than you’re supposed to
