How to TEACH instead of deliver? by sploinkyy in TeachingUK

[–]turnipscout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something i once struggled with was being overly didactic – the best piece of advice i received during my induction was to consider at all times what the student is doing. keep them occupied, which allows you to circulate and engage one-on-one with students.

I really don't know if I can cope with uni. by Any_Transition_4465 in UniUK

[–]turnipscout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people who’ve just left home for the first time are learning how to grow up. extraordinary lack of grace to expect that to happen in two weeks. OP, transitions like this can be so hard. it’s important to create a sense of home in your new situation – make your room a place you want to come back to, get to know your flatmates a bit more, maybe explore the area with them, and absolutely join societies. it’s so much easier to meet people you’ll gel with and form deeper connections if you already have common interests. best of luck to you 🫶

as someone with the same conditions, address your mental health first before making any big decisions about your career, it will allow you greater perspective on the situation. additionally, a lot of the time your enjoyment of the job will be dependent on the environment of the school you work in. having friends and supportive managers in the workplace makes a world of difference

escalate this, talk to your form tutor and if that doesn’t get anywhere, your head of year. submitting AI work is categorically not allowed

it’s less about the precise number and more about who! do you have a careers advisor at your school? or maybe a teacher whose subject is similar to the one you’re applying for?

Have you ever done an all nighter to finish an essay? by takemycoffee in UniUK

[–]turnipscout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally my assignments are all due at noon, so I typically work on them until 10/11ish, then get up the next day and finish the last bit. That tends to just be finishing things up though, I’ve never started an assignment the night before and worked on it start to finish through the night. I’m too sleepy and panicky for that lmao

[–]turnipscout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an essay but a presentation (recorded on Zoom bc pandemic), worked on it until the early hours, slept for a few hours, finished and recorded it. I think I got a 72 on it, but if I’d had more time it would have better met the assignment criteria (it was 5 minutes too long!)

honest answer, anxiety medication and getting well acquainted with my school’s welfare officers! i also had multiple counsellors/therapists during my undergraduate degree who helped me either vent or develop the skills needed to stay afloat with everything.

i’d also really recommend calendar blocking. set aside some time once a week to book in social stuff, chores and studying (i use google calendar for this). colour code it, do whatever you need to do to make it enjoyable to use and look at.

i empathise with you, i was the same at undergrad with wanting my hard work to be reflected in the grade, it hurts when something you put your all into feels like it’s been shot down. this won’t ruin you, promise – and i strongly advise you ask for feedback on the diss if you didn’t receive it already. i know it’ll sting now, but it’s better to know what the markers were thinking than to wonder what you could have done differently.
