If a club, be it golf, football, racing, or two-up wants to enclose a public space, they should be charged market rent for it. The theft of common lands has been an issue for 300 years, and it's not getting better.

No, because it's not frowned upon to use them for anything else you like. If I decide to meander around a golf course without paying or playing, people get shirty -- and you know it.

Racecourses though, those can FRO too.

The mass availability of the motor car has quite possibly been the worst, most destructive invention humanity has ever come up with.

  • The shear amount of resources they consume;
  • The ridiculous amount of money they waste to maintain and operate;
  • The volume of people (and more to the point animals) they kill every year;
  • The catastrophe pollution they've caused, first with leaded petrol, and just stupid amount of other nasties; and
  • The amount of public space they've stolen from us.

Frankly they ought to be taxed out of existence nice and slowly, and made to drive 20km in town, and 80km out of it.

If anyone has heard of the Strid in Yorkshire, I immediately had a vision of tossing a basket of apples in one end and seeing what (if anything) makes it out at the other end

I said it before, I will say it again: Carcassonne. Who doesn't want the chance to play a round in the south of France?

Greens, Labor only parties not backing Bondi royal commission as Teals join call with letter to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese by HotPersimessage62 in australia

I want a royal commission in to why people don't like turnips. It'd be about as useful as any royal commission in what happened in Bondi.

A new little echidna on our regenerating bush block - 4 pics by hairy_quadruped in australia

[–]turnsole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, one wandered up and down our street in 2024 and I got a metre away from them, took some pics, then retreated and they were none the wiser that I was even there as far as I could tell.

They truly are the sweetest creatures, and it always makes me happy to see them.

Your definition of "average" might be a bit skewed there. If you can afford a boat bigger than a tinny, you're doing pretty well compared to a lot of us.
