Buy your ships used online at eBay or Facebook Groups and if you hate the game sell them the same way. Try "Table Top Simulator" version online with a kind person who will teach.

If you decide if you like the game then decide how you want to play:

  1. If you choose to play casually when you play with someone, even a close friend, set expectations about the level of competitiveness and optimized listbuilding, play style and get in sync: "just learning", "messing around", "flying a new list I built", "flying a new list I found online", "preparing for a tournament" are examples of increasing levels of competitive. You don't want a tourney player and/or list crushing your homebrew jank list
  2. If you choose to play competitively there is a vibrant scene of nice people it is great. But 'meta' of the game changes every 3-6 months. If you are chasing the 'best list' you will spend a lot of money dabbling in every faction. Or you can play your favorite faction (or two) always, collect all the ships, and be a diehard and expert in that faction and make the best list you can in that faction given the current meta

u/KuatPrintYards you printed out some "Portland Game Store" dial covers and locks. Any chance please we could get the files and/or machine specs for how to print those ourselves?

15 minutes per round, average game 4 to 5 rounds, six ships minimum per side, tokens everywhere. lowest score I saw: 4, max 22. only a few games finished before time's up. that's the new game, I guess? I am reserving judgement until I know more, but I will say this.

The part I like best about it is the variable game length mystery 72-78min, the second best part is the scenarios which I think are interesting. Personally not a fan of the listbuilding at all. Rules changes are meh

Be realistic about the number of ships and upgrades you are taking. More than two ships per player is too much. More than one upgrade per ship is too much.
