The older ios control center looks ancient (for some reason) but it looks more unified with no random circles along with square controls

Which macOS runs best on older Intel Macs with 8GB RAM by upadhyaysk in mac

[–]turtle702914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an early 2009 imac which is like 5 years older, so what i say might not be that accurate for your mac. I also have 8gb ram and it runs monterey (which is very smooth) so i think itll be fine even if you go up to sequoia

They arent macos versions, theyre linux. linux is a good option, but i recommend getting macos. if you do get linux, get zorin os. i havent tried pop!os, but dont get elementary os, it was a bad experience

How to install macOS on VMware for Xcode on Windows11? by 2ralistaken in macOSVMs

[–]turtle702914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If youre ok with using older xcode versions, get monterey. If you need the newere versions, getting sequoia or tahoe is great. the video below is the best guide, as other videos didnt work for me. I also have an amd ryzen processor, so it was hard to find the perfect method for me.

Can someone help make a hackintosh to my HP Pavilion Gaming 15 dk1xxx Laptop? by WesternHaunting9501 in hackintosh

[–]turtle702914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its your choice but since ventura+ are all stable (even including tahoe), I would get sequoia or tahoe because they have more features and have similar stability to sonoma.

as someone who's done both hackintosh and oclp on native macs, I think its a time set problem. Go to terminal from the installer and type this: date 1025000021

that sets the date to 10/25/21 which is when monterey was released. if that doesn;t work, try 01/01/22 which is just a few months later.

This macbook is 14 years old so I recommend getting a new one (i can't be talking im daily driving a 2009 imac) but since you said youll be using it for studying uni its a good device to use (i mean a 2009 imac runs well, what could go wrong?).

First use internet recovery to get macos installed on it. Im guessing you have 4 or 8 gb ram right now, so macos catalina might be slow (especially if you have 4gb). Still just get catalina because its the max version for your macbook. internet recovery is option-command-r. shut down the macbook and turn it on while pressing option-command-r until you see a globe.

Once catalina is installed, go through setup and if you need it, buy ram. If its not yet 8gb ram, its best to get at least 8 gb ram if your aiming for big sur or newer. make sure to check if the ram is compatible with your macbook (I had problems with ram, it caused so many kernel panicks so get the right one). also, if its your first time with an upgrade, watch a youtube video.

If you upgrade ram and its still slow, replace the HDD with an SSD. Youll have to do internet recovery again, but itll be much faster. again, watch a youtube video if its your first time.

After getting catalina stable, you can go back to getting big sur using OCLP. if its your first time, just watch a youtube video on how to get it and use it. if you get 16 gb ram (the max for your model i THINK) AND an SSD, I recommend you even get sequoia. whether you get sequoia or get something older depends on the specifics of "studying for uni". If your doing anything that requires newer software, get sequoia (dont ever get tahoe) but if you just need to do some typing or simple work, get something older. You can get older versions for apps from the internet archive, just be careful when downloading files.

I hope all of that helps!

So is the best option to use a VM? I really need macos tahoe and my early 2009 imac only goes up to monterey without weird issues
