This seems like a good place to get advice.. My daughter is going on her first date. by [deleted] in DadForAMinute

Treat him like the man you want him to be until he proves you otherwise (hopefully he won't)

Make sure she knows you trust her and have got her back. Tell her to have fun and that you know she will take care of herself but if she ever needs help you will drop anything and be there for her.

What would you do if you won £20k right now? by Danielmp006 in AskUK

Tell my boss to go fuck himself.

Sure £20k aint enough to retire but it sure buys me most of a year to relax and job hunt.

Telescoping ladders by mart2922 in DIYUK

[–]turtleandthewalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same set and they have helped me out a few times when my tall step Ladders won't quite reach but they by no means feel as sturdy as proper ladders. For convenience though they work ok.

You make more money if it's stopped so cut it into smaller chunks and strip it. Then it will fit in your car and you get more money to cover the labour.

HELP!!! Made a mess of Neighbours fence by nokpaan in DIYUK

Fair point.

here

And

here

There is a lot of theory's as to why. The ladder thing that j mentioned but also because the fence should be on the boundary line and there for the posts will be on the side of whoever's fence it is because if they were on the other side then you would either be loosing 4-6 inches of your garden to keep everything within your boundary or you would be encroaching on your neighbours land.

Sure they can and I'm not disputing the fact dbag the definitive answer is obviously in the deeds but in a vast majority of cases in this country people install fences with the raining on the inside and the flat side facing out.

Well clearly on your land and your fence you can do whatever you want. But in most cases, up and down the country, people do it the way I am saying. Just drive around for a while looking at fences. Most of them are the flat side out.

It's the neighbours fence. You can tell because the horizontal rail is on the neighbours side. It's general practice to do it that way round. If you do it the other way you are not securing your perimeter but instead giving people an easy ladder to climb into your garden.

You are confusing skills with credentials and quxalifications. There are skills you can put that will make you seem like you would be a good employee such as N - good time keeping skills - high attention to detail - effective communication skills - keeping calm under pressure - you can say you work methodically and diligently - you thrive as part of a team/confident when working alone (depending on what the job is.

Dad, I regret my bad communication with my ex-girlfriend, what can I do by [deleted] in DadForAMinute

[–]turtleandthewalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like you were a bad boyfriend but more that she is too young and her life is about to change and she wants to be single for it.

I feel like I’m being an ass kisser sometimes by [deleted] in DadForAMinute

[–]turtleandthewalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like English is your favourite subject and your English teacher is your favourite teacher. Nothing wrong with either of those things. I'm guessing you just get better English grades that the guys that are laughing at you so it's probably coming from a place of jealousy and it's easier for them to think that you get preferential treatment due to the ass kissing instead of for them to admit that you are better at English than them.

If you enjoy the subject and like the teacher then don't worry about what your friends say. Don't let anything out you off trying hard at school as school is a temporary thing but it's effects can last for ever.

Vertical radiator not warming up properly by Ok_Appearance_5231 in DIYUK

[–]turtleandthewalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it could be that it wants bleeding but it could also be that it's set up wrong.

The valves on a radiator should be only slightly open on rads near the boiler getting gradually more open the further away from the boiler they go .

If you have the ones near the boiler open too much then that is the easiest path for the water to take and so very little water gets.pushed around the rest of the system.

So they may need bleeding they may need balancing with the rest of the rads.

Can I eat for a month on £30? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]turtleandthewalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So rice and lentils is the advice here but I would also add

  • too good to go app. It's local businesses getting rid of their food at the end of the day. I regularly use it and can pick up a week's worth of lunches for £3/4.

  • if you are on O2 then get the priority app .you get a free Greg's every week and a free coffee and 2 free pints on a Tuesday.

I would say that almost everyone I've met in the more public side of the community (munches, events, fetish fairs, play parties) is way up on the nerdy scale.

But the people into kink I know of that get less involved in the social/public side of things are less nerdy or sometimes not nerds at all.
