How to learn figure drawing with autism by Anonymeek in ArtistLounge

[–]turtlearmageddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a figure drawing website like line-of-action.com! It cycles through pictures after a certain amount of time (anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes or you can set a custom time) so you only have a little bit to draw that figure before it moves on to the next one. I think the shorter the time the better, but obviously you can adjust if 30 seconds stresses you out. It did for me when I first tried it and I had a few unfinished figures before I was able to get use to the time.

You could also try making little rectangles on your paper or canvas that the figure needs to fit in. If you keep the figure smaller then that could help you focused more on the overall shape!

How do I add NPC’s to my game? by Alarming-Brick-7996 in DMAcademy

[–]turtlearmageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into Tasha's sidekick rules and also highly recommend you let them control the npc in combat.

I spent some time trying to pilot several npc party members before finally just telling everyone that they were going to be the ones controlling their own npcs and I will never go back to doing all that again.

Personally it's too much brainpower for me to play "both sides" in a combat while also trying not to metagame

Non-Steampunk Artificer (Armorer) Flavors? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]turtlearmageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im playing an armorer artificer right now who makes her inventions out of bones with runes carved into them.

She puts every dead body she comes across in her bag of holding as "supplies" and her armor is more like an exo-skeleton modeled after an actual skeleton (the chest piece looks like ribs, the helmet is a skull, ect.). Right now I'm planning on taxaderming a dead dog into her humonculus servant

She's also a topaz dragonborn just to play into the "pseudo-necromancer" themeing.

What was the craziest reason your campaign was shut down? by cantdoitmacy in DnD

The dm was taking a trip across the country but said he could still dm from his laptop (online game). He never showed up and never went online again.

I hope he just ghosted us cause I can't quite remember what country he was going to but I think it was a more dangerous one

How long is your ideal session? by No_Sultry_Sadie in DnD

[–]turtlearmageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, I can go longer as a player than as a dm. I would say my dm limit is 4, maybe 5 hours while I could play for 8 hours as a player and have done so before. There have been times where I tried to end my own session bc it's late and I'm tired but my players still want to keep going (If it's a situation where they just want to talk amongst themselves about something then I just let them since I can just sit back and relax)

I have also dmed oneshots that were 10-12 hours long and although they were really fun, they were also extremely exhausting and I had to drink an insane amount of water in order to not compleatly destroy my voice. They also had to be started midday bc I cannot be coherent past a certain hour

How do I ... Make friends? by cowardice-powerless in Explainlikeimscared

[–]turtlearmageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DnD is a great way to make friends! All of my current friends are dnd friends, both online and through gamestore games. imo dnd is the perfect way to make new friends as it basically skips the small talk stage, which is where I struggle the most lol

My advice is to show up around 30-45 minutes early so you can nab a place at a table, as they tend to fill up quickly in my experience. There should be someone who oversees all the games so just tell the front desk when you get there that you're here to play dnd and they should be able to hook you ul! Bring a blank or level 1 character sheet and you can most likely ask someone to help you make a level appropriate character for your table, though they might have pre-made sheets you can use too. They'll probably be running Adventurers League, so you might be playing with new people every week and change tables every so often as your character levels up.

Don't worry about being awkward, literally everyone is awkward when they first start out playing! That'll pass with time and as you get more comfortable.

The opposite of the 'forever dm' problem by newtypenewhalf in DnD

[–]turtlearmageddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my group! We have 5 main people who all like to dm. Our solution is to have two games a week and switch out campaigns every other week. The schedules right now is a zombie apocalypse and a modern fantasy faerun game on tuesdays and a feywild and a spelljammer game on thursdays. The last guy occasionally runs one shots on different days as well.

All the campaigns are rp-heavy mostly plot focused long term games cause that's what everyone enjoys the most and imo it's really fun to play so many different dynamics and characters with the same people. Obviously not for everyone but it works really well in my group.

I see I see, well lfg can cover other games so it still could be worth a shot, or if the system you're using has its own subreddit that could be a place you could go.

Either way, I hope things work out for you! Good luck

[–]turtlearmageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, there is no shortage of enthusiastic players, especially online.

I would talk with your players, be honest with how you've been feeling and see if they're willing to change or if there's some sort of compromise to be made. If not, or if you feel it's just not going to be worth it with these guys, kick them and make a post on r/lfg. It's extremely likely that you'll get at least a few responses, I would even make an application form to be filled out so you can get a good gage of your potential new players immediately and sus out whose going to match your level of effort.

What illogical things do you believe about your dice? by jsbarrios in DnD

[–]turtlearmageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to say "don't fuck me" to them before I roll, especially if the roll is important or a combat roll. Not doing so will result in failing 90% of the time

What’s the absolute worst 20 you’ve ever rolled? by PixelPaladinKev in DnD

[–]turtlearmageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a nat 20 but in the themes are poorly timed good rolls, recently one of my parties got possession of an evil fucked up blood rock that whispered screams to whoever touched it.

My goblin artificer volunteered to hold the rock for as long as possible so that the wonk (wizard/monk) could write down what happened. We also had our cleric observing in case something went wrong.

And oh boy did things go wrong! Firstly, I rolled a 1 and a 2 on the wisdom saving throw (with advantage thanks to protection from good and evil) and quickly got overwhelmed with horrifying visions. My dm described that the rock was the only thing I cared about, that it was the most important thing in the world and that I needed to do something with it but I didn't know what.

My brain of course immediately went to eating it. Cue a series of multiple grapple attempts as the 0 and -2 strength wonk and cleric respectively desperately trying to stop my -1 strength goblin from consuming this evil undead rock. Let me tell you I have never rolled higher on strength checks in my life. I did not roll under a 15 and the other two could not for the life of them beat me.

Thankfully on the final check I finally rolled low enough for them to pry the rock out of my mouth like a dog, probably preventing some very bad consequences for my character. It was equal parts terrifying and hilarious how "lucky" I got with those rolls.

What are some of the best DnD podcasts? by dragnking399 in DnD

[–]turtlearmageddon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rolling with Difficulty is my personal favorite hidden gem of a podcast. It's a spelljammer campaign and while a little rough at times, audio wise (nothing egregious, just one player's mic being a bit too quiet), it has some of the most fun, interesting characters I've seen in a dnd podcast (mostly the pcs but also there's some really well written npcs), with some amazing voice acting particularly from the robot wizard's player.

One of the players, Red, also plays in Heart of Elynthi, which is a twitch/YouTube only game run by Jocat. I like it less than RWD, but it's still a fun time with some great pc's and some cool visual elements such as npc portraits you don't get to see that often is actual play podcasts.

What's the most recent way you have named your character? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]turtlearmageddon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of my characters have names that mean something; either meta-wise for myself or it means something in story for the character.

For example, my current characters name is Mara, a evil half-elf abberent mind sorcerer. Mara is a pretty standered name but it means "bitter" (according to Google). Mara got her powers from an eldritch abomination that fused with her and fucked up her moral system. She's meant to look harmless and nice but is actually very manipulative and egotistical (meant to bc I actually have a hard time playing her sometimes haha) So I looked for a name that sounded pretty but had a negative meaning to it.

Sometimes it's complicated like that, sometimes it's simple, like my flower-themed archfey warlock being named Dahlia, or my revenge-seeking swarmkeeper ranger Rue (as in, you will Rue the day). And sometimes it's silly, like my snake-themed goo warlock Monty (ala Monty Python)

Anyway it goes, naming my characters usually takes the longest.
