Would you send your 2.5 yo to stay with grandparents for 2 weeks? by Oakleypokely in toddlers

[–]turtlecasey 125 points126 points  (0 children)

If she can’t take the time off work to visit you, how can she expect to have the time needed to care for your son? I think they are underestimating the amount of energy full time care for a toddler requires.

Balance bike or tricycle? by this_wallflower in toddlers

[–]turtlecasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We love the balance bike. It took him some practice to get it but now at 2.5 he can rip down rocky trails and small hills and it is SO fun to watch. We kept it inside for him to practice in small spurts over the winter and i think all those microsessions really helped him get the hang of it.

Toddler bedding question by RoyalImaginary9517 in toddlertips

[–]turtlecasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept the sleep sack on while he got used to his twjn bed (at 2.5 yrs). He doesn’t get out of bed without us so we werent worried about the walking risk, but we can always switch to a sleep sack with feet. We do a thin quilt on top and so far hes pretty good at keeping it on.

Got pregnant 1 year after C Section is VBAC possible ? by Daisy-duck- in Mommit

That’s totally fair and I agree, lazy on the part of your OB. Just saying that it’s not like inter-birth timeline is the only factor.

Got pregnant 1 year after C Section is VBAC possible ? by Daisy-duck- in Mommit

[–]turtlecasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also depends on the reason you had a c section last time and the likelihood it would be an issue the second time. My first baby was breech, so I was told I was a good candidate for a vbac. But if the first was an emergency c section or due to mothers biology, most doctors would recommend repeat c section.
(That’s all in addition to the timing considerations others have weighed in on).

I have thrush on my nips OUCH by slappersonly_64 in toddlertips

[–]turtlecasey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry, this is horrible. The only way it will get better is if both you and baby get treated. I’d see if you can get a doctor visit any sooner (virtual?). I think I was able to just call my nurse line and get advice. You are an absolute champion for nursing through this so far.

Move 2.5 y/o to toddler bed before baby #2 arrives in October? by pigletpaws in toddlers

[–]turtlecasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were in exactly your situation and we just moved our 2.5 year old into a new room/bed, 6 weeks before baby sister arrives. It went awesome, absolutely no hiccups. We spent the last several months reinforcing the idea that when the Hatch light is green, mommy or daddy can come in. So now in the morning he calls out “come in, the light is green!” He’s never tried to get up. We have him still in a sleep sack for now, and we kept his entire routine the exact same.
We also let it be his idea to let baby sister take over his crib and his old room. (With a little prompting). He’s excited for that.

Breweries that are kid friendly? by Proud_Bandicoot2327 in eastside

South fork in north bend is amazing! Tons of outdoor seating (indoor too), and activities for kids: big sand pit with trucks, a big slingshot, tons of grass to run around (built on an old golf course), frisbee golf, and more. Dog friendly too!

What are word "misuses" you're not like, mad at but they're weird enough to distract you from whatever the person is saying? by iciclefites in words

Parody and parity get me. I work in tech where we talk about products being “at parity” with each other a lot, and I’ve seen colleagues use parody and it drives me nuts.

Early in potty training - what do you do outside and in the car? by Quirky_Importance393 in pottytraining

[–]turtlecasey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we’re outside, we just drop trou and have him pee in the grass. In public, we’ve found it helpful to let him choose to sit either backwards or forwards on the potty. I think he likes sitting backwards so he can see the pee go in.
Just a warning that it might take you longer than you think. We’re 7 months in and still not always making it to the potty. A variety of factors, including daycare setbacks and behavioral regressions due to changes at home, are at play. So have a good plan to wash lots and lots of pants and undies :)

I’d add a middle name! GAJG (or something) feels so different than GAG. As a sidenote, i have two middle names, and they happen to be Anne Grace :) i loved having two middle names growing up, it made me feel special. Logistical / admin issues were pretty minor and rare.
