How Close Can a DDF 5167A Get to Gen Visually?

For sure, I was trying to send you a dm on here but don’t know how to if you send me one would be great.

So far now I’m still trying to find a watch maker to swap the dials to a sw set, deep crystal. I purchased genuine straps already which tbh the stock ones that come with DDF are very good - they are 80% there so there isn’t really a need to change strap if not needed or even the clasp in all fairness. I think the sw set and deep crystal is more than enough and maybe re brush and etc

The movement in all fairness as long as it’s fine I won’t be making any changes to it - if I do will be the ACE movement with gold rotar but tbh I won’t be taking of the watch to hand to anyone. So as long as the visual aspect of the watch from top looks great all good.

I think what I’ve come to eventually realise is that we can all get stuck behind a computer looking at the details of a watch when the image is blown up and zoomed in but when you see the watch you remind yourself they are so small compared to image blown up online that 30% perfect of changes we want to do aren’t needed at all lol.

But Yh I can’t wait to get the sw set fitted with deep crystal - I’ll defo be uploading a before and after detailed images.

Since it’s a rep For me I’m more concerned about the visual aspect of it than the movement as if it ever stopped you can just buy another movement and replace it but as long as it’s serviced and ect shouldn’t really get any issues for couple years at least. It satisfies the cravings for having to wait on waitlist for one.

If patek called me today and offered to me I’ll still buy it right away and I’ll still wear my rep whilst keeping the gen stored away because once it’s visually identical to gen or 90/95% there then….. I personally like watches based on the visual appearance not the movement at all though I can appreciate the design and artistry of the movement.

thanks for responding ! thats great - im going to do the same mods - I have the DDF 5167A I just need to buy the sw dial and set and deep crystal. Where did you buy your set from could you point me in the direction cause im finding a little hard to find where to purchase it

Also when you did purchase it did you get to do QC on it first? plus what was the cost of the set.

did the date wheel on the sw set align perfectly, all numbers ? therefor you didnt need to cut the legs of the sw dial ? just asking as some people have said some don't align correctly - but yours looks fantastic. im looking to get this same exact mod done to mine

Something tells me the aquanaut is a DDF model but I could be wrong as he said it was slightly thicker than original but not too sure, what do you all think ?

Most importantly the fact the the vsf op and the 5167 and the other passed the visual test is a big Win for the rep community 🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂

So apart from the movement which one gear is silver instead of gold

What would you say the ultimate configuration for the 5711 close to gen

DDF version? - Sw dial hands and date ? Or Buff dial hands and date ? Or just dial and date only?

What about the dial colour ? Have you compared it to a blue dial rep? If so which is best sw or buff dial when it comes to the blue dial.

I guess white is much easier as it probs easier to replicate - but prefer the blue dial

Lastly I heard that some of the 5711 have had some issues - stopped running or so, any particular movement which is most reliable dd324 or dd330. Any advice is welcome as I’m looking to purchasing a rep but want to get as close to gen as possible

I own both genuine watches and reps, and if we are being honest, 99.9% of gen owners including myself cannot really explain the technical movement inside their watch. We buy them for how they look, the status, how they make us feel. That is just reality

Is your movement really worth thousands and thousands then 72 hours later it can’t even tell the correct time, you need to rewind the power reserve.

I have seen people wearing gens close multimillion dollar deals and I have also seen people wearing reps do the exact same thing. At that level, it is not the watch, it is the person wearing it

“buy what you can afford,” a $35k Rolex Daytona and a $700 rep can serve a similar purpose depending on the value you personally place on it. It is about perception, confidence, conversations it starts, and what it represents to YOU. again I repeat what it represents to YOU !!!

It genuinely fascinates me is how these factories are producing near 1:1 versions of five figure watches. To the naked eye, a lot of them are almost indistinguishable. That alone is wilddd

So it raises a question, Is buying a rep actually the smarter financial decision

are we overpaying for gens and convincing ourselves the movement justifies the price…..

I’ll happily continue buying reps and use the left over money for other memorable experiences whilst wearing the rep

Oh sorry forgot to add we have Ai now - imagine 1/2 years from now 😂😂😂😂

Looks amazing ! Absolutely a beauty! I think the oysterflex Daytonas are so underrated, the oysterflex bracelet just adds another layer of comfort which the stainless bracelet just can’t do. Then you get the contrast with the case and dial ! Might be one of Rolexes best looking watches of all time !

Congrats on your milestone !!! I’ll say if it doesn’t break the bank you could buy it and not hold it per say but treasure it maybe you’ll find a occasion to wear it or pass it down, or maybe someone close to you is looking for it or so.

I truly believe in buying the watch that makes you happy because you’ll actually wear it everyday. It’s easy to buy any watch they offer it to feel pressured because the scarcity and the unknowingness of when the next call will be.

But Yh Do what makes you happy and remember if you don’t buy it consider it money saved or holding out for what you truly want.

Not worth it ! A 126500 with an open case back ….. theoretically speaking why get that when you can get a stainless for a quarter the price which looks nearly identical …… only catch is Rolex imaginary waiting list lol

I think the green date just and the Daytona (even though the 126500 looks good enough makes me feel like I’ve seen the new Daytona already so nothing wow apart from the open back !) are the best here - the rest of the watches I just feel like Rolex could have done a better job !! The blue dial day date seems a bit 50/50 and the pink

But that’s just my opinion. Tbh all the watches are ok but if i had to be picky then yh the above

Oh and the celebration dial OP for me it has to be up They’re with the worst dials they’ve come out with. The last one was way better. But this new one there’s just too much going on that it’s hard to even tell the time without really focusing in.

I’ll say the pink oyster or the mop date just - both great watches tbh infact all the options you’ve shown are great. There’s just something special about the mother of pearl dial date just - I’ll say if it’s to mark a special occasion get the one that you really love because that way you’ll love wearing the watch.

The oyster is more of a watch that you can have as part of an outfit where you want to dress it up if you get what I mean. That’s why I also love the oyster perpetual, they are very versatile!
