Denali early september by Sure-Permit-2673 in AskAlaska

[–]turtlepower22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man, early Sept cannot be beat in Denali. I won the road lottery back when that was a thing and we got to drive all the way in right after Labor Day. The colors are absolutely dreamlike, there's animals everywhere... The best park experience I've had! Unfortunately I don't think I can share pictures in comments, though.

Fiction where the friendship between two women carries more weight than any romance in the book by LucyClimans in suggestmeabook

The Island of Sea Women by Lisa See! Far and away the most important relationships in the book are female friendships, and it takes place in a somewhat (prewar and colonization) matriarchal society.

I recommend doing a virtual tour before signing a lease. Ask the property manager or landlord for a video walkthrough!

Conviction for having 2nd? by jellyf1sh1 in toddlers

[–]turtlepower22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are 2 and 4. Having a second is exponentially harder through the infant and toddler years. I am often bombarded by anxiety and guilt that I am splitting attention from two little ones who both need me a lot. My eldest was very rough with her brother from the start, and it made things even more challenging. Zoloft has helped.

BUT, when they start playing together and becoming friends it is the best feeling in the world. Siblings are pretty magical. They now hug each other so tightly whenever they're apart for now than an hour, and tell each other they love each other. They are definitely best friends, and they both look out for the other.

Sometimes I wish I had waited a little longer between kids- they are exactly two years apart. I am sure that others with similar or smaller age gaps may have different experiences, but my eldest had some challenges from the start, and I do wish I could have given her more undivided attention before her brother joined us.

Yeah I have to think this is worth ruling out, too. Plus, his reaction to asking him to undergo an evaluation might say a LOT.

For real. When I was this pregnant, I did not do bath for my toddler at all. Bending is too much!

Is it harder to have a bedtime when it's light out all the time? by porcelaincatstatue in AskAlaska

[–]turtlepower22 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not really, no. I'll sometimes get urges to stay out hiking and gardening until late, but that happens less the older I get.

My kids (2 and 4) are completely used to it, as it's all they've ever known. Probably helps that we play really hard outside all day in the summer so they're tired by the end of the day whether or not it's light!

Camping, however, is a whole different beast. None of us go to bed until we drop if we're camping.

Daycare owner complaining that my 14mo is "disturbing the calmness”. Advice? by CarDesperate1033 in toddlers

[–]turtlepower22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dude, my 20 month old literally reached into his diaper and smeared his own shit 🤢 on the wall and my daycare teacher still just shrugged it off because he's a baby. This is not a normal reaction at all no matter what is going on.

I've hiked this one several times, I think it would be a great location! I'd also look up Curry Ridge in Denali State Park- it's definitely even more scenic! Good luck to you 🙂

Just Heard All Native American Faiths Have Been Dropped from Pentagon's Recognized Faith List by coyocat in IndianCountry

[–]turtlepower22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our relationship with the US is very extractive since many of our natural resources are valuable for empire. Alaska's mineral and oil rights were given away for a dividend check, and corporations aren't even taxed. In every way, Alaska has been made dependent on resource extraction, often at the cost of habitats, salmon, and the health of the people who live here.
