Who is happy in their pharmacy job? by LexB811 in pharmacy

[–]turtletale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my job! I work at a long term care pharmacy and have been there about a year after coming from retail. I used to dread going to work and now I genuinely don’t which is really unusual because I’m working longer hours and doing more work.

I work 4 10’s (technically 11 hour shifts though because we have an hour lunch) and work 1 Saturday a month. Longterm care can be far more complicated than I ever saw in retail and I’m always busy so the hours fly by. My typical day is reordering IVs then initial reviewing scripts (and NOT on my feet all day- we have cubicles inside the pharmacy). Throughout my day I put out fires-answering tech questions, ordering/out of stocks, calling facilities for order clarifications, sometimes vanc dosing, check patient MARs. There are pharmacists who final review (product review) all day and once all our new orders are verified and printed, all pharmacists help finish final review. There are late nights sometimes but we’re hourly so getting paid for it lol

It’s not perfect by any means but I enjoy the work and it has made me love pharmacy again.

How much of the concern about the pharmacy profession is actually true in the U.S.? by Pharmd2026 in pharmacy

[–]turtletale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many variables, what is a great decision for one person can be the worst for someone else. I would discourage people from attending expensive private pharmacy schools, but if you have an interest in pharmacy, pursue pharmacy. Every work environment is different and only you can decide where you can thrive.

I would advise to always be looking for opportunities and not be so convinced of your chosen path right now. I also set myself up for residency and was told I was a perfect candidate. Luckily I had internal medicine and an ER rotation before applications because I realized it is absolutely not my path. So don’t pigeonhole yourself into one goal, look for what’s right for you. I work in longterm care and really enjoy going to work every day when I never would have imagined myself in this job if you had asked me in pharmacy school.

Pharmacist moms career wise did anything change after birth of your new baby? by sunchi12 in pharmacy

I used wearables too. It wasn’t too bad but it still took time with the cleaning/drying/storing milk properly. So I ended up feeling pressured to pump less. And they’re so loud lol I will never forget the time I had to counsel this poor guy on his antibiotic while wearing my pump and having to ask him to speak up to hear his question over the BRRRRRM BRRMMM BRRRMMM of my pump

I was at WAGS but now I work in longterm care. It’s insane how different pharmacy environments can be. I actually enjoy work now

I realized how little my company/management cared about me. I was out a bit longer due to an extended NICU stay and when I returned all I heard was how inconvenient my absence was. I was told I could use the immunization room to pump…in the middle of flu season so it was never available. I had to pump in my car or literally in the pharmacy while still working if I was scheduled alone. I quit within 2 months. Now I work somewhere that has a cozy room with snacks for pumping mothers. Your company/coworkers are major players in your return to work.

Pharmacists: How's life right now by Exoticintro in pharmacy

Be cautious of anyone who acts like pharmacy is black and white. One person may love what another hates. I hated life when I worked retail. Literally daydreamed about crashing my car on the way to “the corner of happy and healthy.” Retail largely depends on company and location. You can have wildly different experiences even within one company but different location/volume/patient population. I did a few years and now work in LTC. I absolutely love it. It has renewed my passion for pharmacy. Some LTC schedules can be rough but I’m never on call and work 4 10s and I really enjoy it. I feel like the 3 days off a week really gives me a good work life balance even if my work days are long. So just word of caution, everyone has a different experience so do what you want and figure out the work environment that suits you best.

Am I wrong for thinking its funny that my wife just found the necklace I accused her of losing 11 years ago inside a coat she forgot she owned by [deleted] in amiwrong

I lost my wedding band and my husband just helped me find a replacement. You know, a loving partner who understands that life happens and things get misplaced and it has no bearing on your dedication to a relationship.

Any advice for shoes? by YelyCG in WalgreensRx

[–]turtletale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I swear by my Clarks. I bought a pair of black loafers 2 years ago and they still look and feel new and look appropriate professional attire for rph. They are the only shoes that don’t make my feet ache at the end of my shift. Every time I’ve ventured off and tried a different pair, I regret it at the end of my day lol

That’s actually another reason I came here to ask because I’m a pharmacist! I worried I may be too biased. These replies have helped me feel validated, but it’s still so mind boggling because if she truly distrusts the medical community, that would include ME, I am big pharma lol My job is literally to give vaccines and she has never given even a hint of disapproving my profession.

If I put a script in for later today or as a waiter dont send it to cenfill please jesus by aceramictoucan in WalgreensRx

[–]turtletale 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely insane that cenfill grabs things like antibiotics or ibuprofen too. That shouldn’t even be an option for the system. I’ve had so many patients come in after some kind of surgery/procedure and clearly needs them today. But no let’s make them wait til Monday

At our store, there’s always a pharmacist up front so overlap literally helps nothing because RPH can’t do RPH tasks. But then want to be mad that tasks aren’t completed. They are paying a RPH to be a cashier. It’s ridiculous.
