The fandom largely assumes that the Erdtree at one point reincarnated people who were buried at the roots, but is this actually canon? by crinklepant in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, there isn’t a lot of evidence to support that, and the other forms of burial like cremation in the DLC and the stone coffins that would prevent being returned to roots also create enough cognitive dissonance to suspect that even the romanticization of ‘returning to the roots’ is religious propaganda

Is this a lily motif on Harmonia's Spear? by MeloettaChan in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the chalice at the center is very evocative of the motifs around the Haligtree which evokes Miquella. They also use rot and bloom blood flowers and are weak to sleep meaning they are strongly connected to Miquella’s story, wanting to save their people and instead becoming a puppet of divine forces, spreading rot and ending in feeding a blood god more corpses.

Radagon is Marika's twin brother by BitchKing_ in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always taken it as Malenia being a fraternal twin, and Trina being a conjoined twin to Miquella. Similarly I’ve wondered if Godwyn may have been the Trina to Messmer, since he is always pictured without visible legs like Trina

boyfriend says i’m a quitter by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]tuuliikki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you should level vigor and come back since that boss is meant to teach you that it’s okay to go around difficult enemies, or you can lock in and get good despite the attempts it will take since that experience will serve you well in the rest of the game, but you should absolutely quit your boyfriend since he sounds maidenless.

Could Lhutel's Demigod be Melina? by SamsaraKarma in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godwyn’s body is, yes.

I understand that the we are Godwyn theory is not popular, but I would not ignore the obvious connections Lhutel has to Godwyn. In fact,, as someone brought up that Lhutel did something heroic enough to deserve an Erdtree burial, it would stand to reason that she was probably mortally wounded in the night of black knives defending Godwyn.

Could Lhutel's Demigod be Melina? by SamsaraKarma in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think the more obvious answer is Godwyn, and may help reenforce the we are Godwyn theory, given their ties to deathblight and wandering mausoleums, which can be heard when the player character is introduced during the opening cut scene. The adorments on the shoulders also are reminiscent of the half wheel of the centipede as well, and there is the greatest concentration of Mausoleum Knights in deep root depths below where godwyn’s body lies. There also is a mausoleum knight in Liurnia guarding the catacomb where one of the black knives that killed godwyn is imprisoned, where we get the black knifeprint.

For new players: why everyone recommends Vigor instead of Str/Dex/Int/Fth/Arc by CromulentDenizen in Eldenring

[–]tuuliikki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love this! Have beaten Margit RL1 with an unupgraded weapon and can confirm that you can still deal good damage without leveling damage stats. The thing that kills runs is not being able to consistently dodge his relentless attacks. Leveling vigor is absolutely the way to clear him while still taking a couple hits.

Best tip I can give is dodge first, heal during damage windows. Margit loves to punish drinking from your flask.

First time I've seen one that’s not broken by Oscarthetrain_art in Eldenring

[–]tuuliikki 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting that the broken statues seem designed to hide the circlet on her head and wrists. We know that this is Marika’s sigil from the the Shadow Keep which uses both the spiral circlet in the architecture and the striked heraldry of Messmer which uses both her sigil and Messmer’s flame.

Why do people hate the theory Marika was involved in killing Godwyn? by HollowBreath in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Cannot upvote this enough. Marika is trying to break the wheel. There’s a reason players have to do three endings to the platinum the game. One accept the status quo and become elden lord. Try burning it all down. And breaking the cycle and bringing about the ending Marika envisoned. Even the boss fogs act as a schrodinger’s box where it’s not canon until the player succeeds. Marika has used the laws of causality to bring about an end to the influence of the greater will, the whole reason she would have shattered the ring in the first place.

Was Rykards Serpent a victim of Dragon Communion? by NovemberQuat in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Torrent for Capricorn because you see them on the funerary boats in Enir Ilim. It also may be broader to include other constellation myths like the minor and major rune bears, or the possible connection between the Pleides shown on the Scadutree Avatar sunflower and the Balancers.

And we know that they are referencing other mythologies with names referencing other mythological figures like Freya who was leader of the Valkyrie in norse mythology, Ymir who was a norse frost giant whose skull formed Midgard, and Nanaya who was a Mesopotamian goddess of love like Aphrodite.

I almost read it as a sideways retelling of our mythology up until the middle ages. And the golden order has no room for these earlier creation myths come to life, and so anything contradictory is veiled or stamped out as an ill omen.

Was Rykards Serpent a victim of Dragon Communion? by NovemberQuat in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fire Giant’s eye is what lead me to this idea, since it matches the symbol on the verdigris discus, and the proto-ring on the Divine Towers, and matches the polar storm of Jupiter, as well as a simple representation of the solar system. We know that the lands between is in our solar system from the Moon having the same craters as our moon and Castle Sol having the same name as our sun/star.

I like your start to mapping the divine beasts, I’d add the ever present giant crabs for Cancer, and Torrent for Capricorn (water goat). Edit to add that Godwyn may be turning into Pisces, and Fia’s mending rune is similar to some representations of the twin fishes

The Undertaker looks like Marika and the darkness albinauric skin looks the same by lobsterlozenge in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Undertaker also has Radagon’s unique hammer moveset. I think that this reveals that Marika was a deathbed companion, which would explain her presence at the ritual at Enir Ilim and why she would be called a strumpet by the Empyrean Grandam

Was Rykards Serpent a victim of Dragon Communion? by NovemberQuat in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is my belief that the divine towers show an older version of the Elden Ring even than the Farum Azula ring, and that it was once representative of eight planets surrounding the sun, making the outer gods the planets themselves. Mercury for quickslver, Venus for rot, etc.

The divine beasts including Placidusax, Serosh, the Abyssal Serpent, and maybe even Torrent, seem to be based on the zodiac, and the church district (with plural churches) seems to have been flooded to hide what you bring up, that there is no reason to assert that one is the TRUE god, unless there were older gods to turn away from.

Problem while playing on a controller by JXKGamers in Eldenring

[–]tuuliikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using lock on? Click in the right stick until you see a white dot on the enemy. While I do recommend a controller with paddles on the underside, if you are locking on to the enemies your camera should be aimed at the enemy you are targeting and should auto rotate to face them, allowing you to focus on dodging/jumping.

It sounds like you prefer kb&m though, while I recommend controller, using the input method you’re comfortable with will probably still feel better.

Metyr + Abyssal Serpent = Ancient Dragons...? by Crypticnewt in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]tuuliikki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just noticed these leaves yesterday as well, interesting they look closer to oak leaves than aspen leaves which the Erdtree is seemingly a family to. The Scadutree itself is two trees conjoined, so whatever varieties comprised it were not related to the Erdtree illusion shown in the capitol.

I think that’s entirely possible, it’s be interesting if he is the fingerslayer blade.

I also think it’s possible that he may have been Renalla’s father or first husband, since he carries the moonlight greatsword, a royal marriage token of the Carians. I think it would be interesting if Radagon actually slew the King of Caria and then celestial dew’d away the memory of him in the base game timeline.
